Emi sighed. Just when all her assignments were over, Ryuu had to be an idiot by not picking up his phone. She had spent an hour after school trying to contact him, but he wouldn't answered. She sighed again and threw her pillow against the wall. How could two weeks pass without seeing her boyfriend? They could at least meet in the halls. She wondered if he stopped going to school or if he was just avoiding her.
If only he would answer his phone.
She was alone in the house with nothing to do and plenty of time on her hands. The Japanese girl flipped open her cell phone, and looked through her address book. There was no one she really wanted to hang out with right now.
Except Nick.
The last time she saw him was at the beach where her day ended pretty badly. She wondered if he still wanted to hang out with her. Her fingers rested on the buttons before she finally dialed her number. Well, she wouldn't know unless she called him.
She placed the phone in her ear and felt nervous when she heard the ring cut off.
"Um hey Nick. This is Emi? Are you busy?"

Nick was really busy today, in his mind. He was going to lay down some tracks of riffs and solos he came up with on his guitar, then easily make a drum track to back it up and then maybe toss in some keys or bass. He was down in his father's studio, as his father was recording some unknown band down at the real recording studio.
Just as he was done setting up, his phone rang. He looked at the caller ID, not expecting anyone in particular, but the name on the screen made him raise his eyebrows. Emi was calling him? Oh, that was right, he said she could call him anytime to hang or listen to him play. And what better a time than now?
He pressed the answer button on the touch screen.
"Um hey Nick. This is Emi? Are you busy?[/b]
Nick smiled on his end.
"Nope, I'm not busy at all, whats up?"
He was never busy for a girl, no matter how busy he really was.

"Um well..."
She stood up and began pacing her room. Nick told her that he wasn't busy, but she still felt nervous about calling him and asking him if he wanted to hang out. What if he just lied about not having anything to do to avoid hurting her feelings or being too direct? She had done that sort of thing in the past since she was never the honest sort of person.
The only way she could find out is if she asked.
"Are you sure?"
"I'm kinda bored. Wanna hang out?"
As she passed her mirror, she noticed how the fingers of her right hand were crossed. She bit her lip and quickly uncrossed them. It was funny how a boy could make her so nervous, even through the phone lines.
She sighed again and threw herself back on the bed. The mattress made a creaking noise loud enough to pass through the phone.
"If it's okay with you. You don't have too much homework, right? If you do, we can study together. My house is being painted, but we can find a place."
She found herself blabbering on.

Nick chuckled a little at her response.
"Ha, of course I'm sure! And I'd love to hang out with you!"
He didn't even have to change his plans. She could come over and watch him record if she wanted to. It would show her his talents with multiple instruments, and they'd get to spend some time together.
"If it's okay with you. You don't have too much homework, right? If you do, we can study together. My house is being painted, but we can find a place."[/b]
"Yeah, I'm done with my homework," which was a lie, he hadn't even started, but what did he care, "And you can come over here, no problem. I'll text you my address, alright?"

Her heart sighed a little on the inside. He actually said yes to her idea of hanging out. Plus, there was nothing in his voice that hinted that he remembered anything from the beach. Maybe she could start of new today and manage to impress him.
"Oh okay. I'll see you later."
She hung up and threw her cell phone on the bed. If she was going to impress him, then she would have to look nice. She took a look at her reflection in the mirror and frowned. Her outfit looked a little tomboyish but passable. The only problem was her face; she looked plain without makeup on.
She dug through her makeup bag and pulled out a tube of mascara. Tentatively, she coated her right lashes with the wand. However, her cell phone's ring tone made her hand slip, leaving a huge black spot on her cheek. Cursing in Japanese, she took out a tissue to fix up the mess. After applying mascara and lip gloss and running a comb through her hair, she deemed herself passable.
Emi packed up her school bag, looked at the message, and exited the house. Nick's home wasn't that far away, but she decided to take her bike to get there faster. A few minutes later, she found a house that matched the address on her text message.
"This must be his place."
Emi walked forward and pushed the doorbell. She could hear the ring reverberating through the house.

He said goodbye and hung up the phone, just to continue with a text with his address. Nick thought that it might be nice if he didn't look like crap with someone else over, especially a girl, so he rushed upstairs and looked in his bathroom mirror. His hair was a bit ruffled, but other than that, he was good to go. He had taken a shower and put on fresh clothes earlier, so he grabbed his comb and straightened out his longish hair. Nick had chosen to wear jeans and a tight fitting t-shirt like he did every day, but usually he had his hoodie on, so the shirt would be something new to Emi, even though she had seen him half-naked at the beach.
Nick went back downstairs and crashed himself on the couch to watch a few minutes of television while waiting for her to show up, as the TV room was right by the door.
Once the doorbell rang, Nick leaped up and ran down the small flight of stairs to open the door to his townhouse. Upon opening the door, there was Emi, looking cute as ever.
"Allo, Emi! How are you? Come on in!" he said with a huge smile on his face.

Behind the reverberating sound of the doorbell, she could have sworn that she heard the stomping of Nick's footsteps. At the same moment, she worried about the state of her hair and wished for a mirror. The only thing she could do what flatten down her bangs before he opened the door.
"Oh hi."
She clutched her back to her chest as she entered. In many Asian households, it is common for people to take off their shoes as they enter. However, he mentioned nothing about it, so she walked in feeling a little nervous.
He looked just as good-looking as she saw him on the beach. She loved his smile and the way his long hair fell in his eyes. His shirt also hugged his chest nicely, reminding her of his toned his body was when she saw him half-naked on the beach. Two red spots appeared on her cheeks. She cursed herself for having pale skin.
"So... What do you want to do?"

Nick caught her looking at him as they entered his house, a slight blush coming to her face. They started up the stairs to the main room as Emi asked her question.
"Well I thought you might want to watch me play some music. I was just playing in the studio."
He would lead her to the music studio, which was a large garage turned into a soundproof room, with mixing boards, macs, and glass recording area.
"So how do you like it? My father and I built it when we moved in here."
There were at least five different guitars propped up along the far wall as well as three basses, a couple keyboards and synthesizers, and Nick's drum kit behind the glass.

"I'd love to hear you play?"
She had only expected him to bring her up to his room to show his guitar, keyboard, or whatever. The built-in studio in his home was a very unexpected surprise. Literally, her jaw dropped. She would have never thought that his family would take music this serious.
"Wow. This is so cool."
Afraid of breaking something, Emi stood close to Nick, their bodies almost touching. She had to fight down the urge to grab his hand, as what she was doing was almost like cheating on her boyfriend, Ryuu. Her main reason to come over here was to solve her boredom by hanging out with a friend, not cheating on the guy she loved.
"It's amazing. What are you going to play now?"

Nick hadn't realized it at first, but recording would be a lot easier with Emi around. It would save him the time of pressing the record button, getting into the glass recording area, playing his track, getting out of the recording area, and stopping the recording process. Now that he thought about it, why did he even think of doing it by himself in the first place?
"Well, I was going to do the drum track first. If you want, you can help me out by pressing this button when I give you a thumbs up and then again a few seconds after I stop." he pointed to a square red button on the mixing board with a white dot on it.
If she agreed, he would set up the program on the mac, grab his drumsticks, and go into the recording area to sit at his drum set. Once he saw that Emi was situated he would give her a thumbs up and start playing a simple drum beat when the record light turned on.

"Um, okay," she said hesitantly.
There were so many buttons in the studio that they made her head hurt. She was almost afraid of confusing the square white button with another one. However, she wanted to leave a good impression on Nick, so she tried her best to hide the sinking feeling in her stomach.
As he set up the program on his mac, she peered over his shoulder. She could hardly believe that a high school student like him already knew how to record music and make his own tracks. If he was planning on having a career in the music industry she wouldn't be surprised.
She smiled dryly at him as he entered the recording area. As soon as he gave her the thumbs up, she pressed the button and watched him play. The beat he played was simple, but she was still impressed since she had tried to play the drums before and found it difficult. When he was done and gave her the signal, she pressed the button again.
"Did I do that right?" she asked after a long pause.

After he was done and he gave her the sign to stop the recording process. She pressed a button and then spoke to Nick. He couldn't hear her, though, because the glass in between them was soundproof. He laughed and then got up, going to the door that allowed entrance into the glassed area.
"It's soundproof, love. You've got to hold the button under the microphone right there in the middle of the mixing board if you want me to hear you from this end." he said while smiling lightly at her.
Nick found it cute how she didn't know how to do any of this, even though he didn't expect her to know how to operate any of this. He closed the door and picked up his guitar, slinging the strap over him.

Emi blushed. How could she be so stupid? It was obvious that the glass-walled room was sound-proof since no one could record anything if outside noise enters the area. She felt embarrassed at her lack of knowledge with music. How could Nice like her if they didn't know about the same things?
"Oh yeah," she laughed. She felt like a complete idiot right now.
Nick reentered the room, picking up a guitar this time. She straightened up; a cute guy holding a guitar was something she found very attractive. Her finger was held over the button, and when he gave her the signal, she pressed it. She was interested in what Nick had to play since he was most likely going to play the melody with his guitar. Well, she assumed that the guitar was going to be used for the melody. Sadly, her knowledge in music was too limited for her to know.
Her lips curled up as soon as he began. His playing made her heart sigh.

Nick gave her the signal and when the recording light came on again, he waited a few beats before coming in with a complicated guitar riff. It was much more impressive than the drum beat he laid down, even though he was better at drums than guitar. Right now he was playing the rhythm to his song, no matter how intricate it seemed, basically looping the riff to go under the solo he had prepared, which he would play later.
He couldn't help but notice out of the corner of his eyes, how Emi was smiling at him. The look on her face made her seem as though she was in a fantasy world while looking at him. He pretended not to notice, and continued playing.
Once he was done, he gave her the signal again, and turned around to grab the four-string bass that was against the wall and to wait to see if Emi learned how to use the microphone.
Usually the order was drums, bass, rhythm, lead, but Nick was feeling a little different today. Perhaps it was because Emi was there and she made him think odd things, but in a good way.

His guitar-playing was even better than she thought previously. Although the riff wasn't complicated, she was still very impressed. Her gaze then went to his face.
Nick looked so peaceful when he played. She didn't feel the least bit nervous at staring at him since he probably wouldn't notice her as he played. He looked like he was too stuck in his own little world.
Seeing him stop made her feel a little disappointed. She would have liked to hear him play for a minute longer. However, he picked up another instrument which sparked her interest. She looked at the mixing board. Now where was that button again. Oh yeah, under the microphone. She pressed it and moved her mouth close to the speaking device.
"What are you playing this time?"
