Um… was it a left back the or a right? I couldn’t for the life of me remember where I was supposed to go, this place was just too big! Running this way and that while looking for some sense of where I was, no luck whatsoever in the process. Upstairs… downstairs and it wasn’t long before I was just scrambling about for the sake of looking like I was getting someone. Up another set of stairs and I was feeling like I might just be getting the feel of this…
… THE ROOF! DX
“Awww damnit!”
I shouted as a slammed my notebook that had the school map on it onto the ground with all my might. It was damn official, little old me was little old lost. I adjusted my glasses with a heavy sigh of frustration. What a way to start my time at a new school. Usually I would have taken the time to look around before cursing but honestly I didn’t care at the moment… besides it was a roof. Of course that begs the question of how I got lost enough to end up on a roof. I’ll tell you when I figure that one out. >.>

Nick was up on the roof catching some Zs and soaking some rays. Yeah, he was skipping class, but he did that every so often. Most of his classes were music related and he could probably teach the teachers a thing or twenty about the subject. Other than that he had English and computers which being British teen in the technology age, didn't need to really be in those classes either.
Right as Nick was about to drift off to sleep, the steel door to the roof busted open and a very frustrated girl threw her books on the ground. Nick sat up and thought she was pretty cute, for a lost school girl.
“Awww damnit!”
"Um, excuse me, can I help you? You seemed lost." he said with a lazy daze.
He didn't mean for it to come off as rude, but the girl was intruding on his sleep time.
"Ugh, sorry... I didn't mean to be so snappy." Nick's accent wavered with an apologetic tone.

Oh crud! I jerked my head around to see where the voice was coming from only to see an older boy who looked as though he’d been trying to sleep. I had to admit that I was a little nervous at first as I had been warned about the rising violence in the public school system, especially with this ‘pillar system’ so there was a chance he might attack me. First response was make sure I could run for it. Heh… I’m not fighting anyone, but when offered help it subsided a bit and when he apologized well… no need to run now, right? I hope not. >.>
“Um… yeah…”
I dropped to my knees and started to collect my things so they didn’t get blown all over the place. The map could go though, didn’t do me any good. I adjusted my glasses while still collecting everything into a manageable pile. A quick glance over and I figured I should respond in some way other than a little stammer.
“I’m very sorry to intrude on your nap but I… uh… can’t seem to find my locker and I’ve been running around all day. Could you help me?”
I smiled brightly, hoping that he would as I was sick of running around like a chicken with the head cut off. Finger crossed ^.^

"Hm, yeah, I'll help you. There's always time for a nap, but not always a time to help cute, new, lost girls."
Nick smirked. He was on the prowl constantly, when he saw a girl who needed help, or just a good looking girl for that matter, he would go out of his way to help them as much as he could. And maybe get a phone number or something.
"Whats your locker number? Do you have the paper with you that says what it is?"
Nick knew the school's layout well, he had roamed the school in between classes for the first week of school, taking mental notes of where everything was.

“Eh heh…”
I chuckled lightly while a tinge of crimson came to my face. It wasn’t necessarily out of being flattered, though I was slightly, more so the fact that I knew if he knew the whole truth he’d probably freak out and start running away. He might even jump since I was between him and the door, which would be terribly tragic. So for his own safety I would have to keep it secret ~.^. Either way a quickly scanned through my stuff as I stood up before showing him the paper.
“It says 312. Again thank you so much.”
At least my parents fears weren’t true. Just one day and though I didn’t find my locker I had found a very nice, and cute, boy to help me get a sense of this place. Shame that he would freak out… sigh. I may not have been in public schools very long but I’m smart enough to know that most guys would not like the idea of a girl being able to… ‘swordfight’… with them to put it a nice way. Anyway I waited for him to such his mental map to find my locker and lead the way.

"312... Yeah, I think I know where that is. I guess follow me." he had to think where it was for a second, but he eventually pictured the hallway that probably held her locker.
Nick moved past her into the stairwell and motioned for her to follow, with a smile on his face. He was extremely friendly, and it was easier for him to make quick friends with girls that guys. He thought he should talk to her and get to know her as they walked.
"So I'm Nicolas. And you are?" he introduced, hoping to get a name back.
He would extend his hand if she told him her name, and then ask about where she came from as it was a week or so into the school year.

I smiled brightly and scurried after him, obviously overjoyed to have someone around who knew where to go. As we made our way he introduced himself so I politely while shaking his outstretched hand, after adjusting my books to not drop them.
“A pleasure to meet you Nicolas. My name’s Kayna… Kayna Williams. My family and I just moved here from Ohio.”
After a few more steps a I turned to him. I was curious about a lot of things about him, especially since he was the first person I met here but I wasn’t going to spew them all out at once.
“So, can I call you Nick?”
I would wait for that answer first before continuing…
“Like… how long have you been going to this school and living here?”

"Ohio, hm. Never been there."
She seemed to be interested to get to know him more, as she asked him a few questions. In Nick's mind, this was a good sign.
“So, can I call you Nick?”
"Yeah, ha ha, sorry I introduce myself with my full first name, but everyone calls me Nick." he smiled embarrassingly as he scratched the back of his head.
“Like… how long have you been going to this school and living here?”[/b]
"Well I've been living here as long as I've gone to school here. I'm originally from England, if you couldn't tell by my accent." he smiled.
He could see the eager look in her eyes to ask him more questions.
"I don't mind you asking about me, go ahead."

English… that’s so cool! I’d never even been out of the country, not even to Canada! And my dad’s a hippy! Anyway I thought about what exactly I wanted to ask since Nick had been nice enough to let me ask anything I wanted.
“Um… what are the students and teachers like here? Is it really bad here… like violent?”
I tried not to sound to nervous and give away the fact I couldn’t fight at all. Granted Nick wouldn’t attack me, but others might. I would listen intently to his answer before asking the next one. The more I asked the less he could, right? I girl’s gotta have her secrets. ~.^
“What was it like living in England? And… why’d you move here? I’d think it would be better to live there.”
Obviously there wasn’t a set train of thought to my questions. <.<

Nick thought of how to word it without his explanation seeming intimidating.
"Well, you see... The student body is pretty violent, but only if you do something to provoke the violence in the first place. Like me, I haven't been in any fights yet, but I could definitely defend myself if I had to. And as for the teachers, well... they really can't do anything to stop the student hierarchy."
Nick decided that that was enough to explain for now, and to move on the the next question. Kayna was interested and was shooting questions at him with rapid fire, but he didn't mind.
"Ah, England's wonderful. My favourite place in the world, probably because I'm so used to it and because it's my first home. But I moved here because my father was out of work, and the only other place for what he does is out here in California."

I let out a short breath of relief hearing that as long as I didn’t start anything I wouldn’t likely end up in a fight. The little fact that he hadn’t been in any fights yet made it easier to believe and a bit more comforting, though he could defend himself. Lastly with the bit about the teachers not really being able to do anything, that really bother me. Wasn’t that their job?
I found it kind of sad that Nick had to move here despite having a joyous time in his native country. It had to be something he wasn’t happy about at the time. On the bright side, if he hadn’t moved I’d still be completely lost. I know… it’s a pretty dim bright side but still. Of course this actually got me to a follow up question.
“What does you dad do exactly?”

It wasn't a question Nick answered every day.
"Hm? Oh, hes a music engineer. He does mixing and recording for artists and such. The industry is a bit on the edge right now in England, so the only other place he could get a job was in California. Also, we couldn't afford to live in the big city of London anymore, it was just the ideal thing to do; to move that is..."
Nick thought he was rambling and going on in too much detail.
"I'm sorry, tell me about you a little. I'd like to get to know you a little better, if you wouldn't mind." he smiled and her, eyes sparkling.
"You know, like what do your parents do, what are your hobbies, are you taken, et cetera..." Nick said it fast to seem smooth.

Well that was cool! His dad was a music engineer? That must be awesome! I bet he got to meet all kinds of stars and stuff when he went to visit him at work. I was thinking about asking about something else when Nick turned the tables on me. Oh no. He turned with a smile and eyes… eeee! I quickly turned away to hide the blushing that was occurring in my cheeks.
“Uh… yeah… ok.”
I used the hand that was closer to him to adjust my glasses thus hiding my face as he went about asking all his questions. Jeez! He fired them off quicker than I did, I wasn’t sure if I caught all of them. I guess I would have to just start answering with the first and see what I missed.
“Um… my mom’s a doctor… she got a job at the hospital recently so that is why we moved. Kind of like you. Let’s see… my dad… well, I’m not sure what he does exactly cause he’s a total hippy. Now… hobbies… uh, I like playing video games like RPGs and like GTA… I like cooking and reading books, most any kind that isn’t like an instructional manual. That’s pretty much it…”
I sort of kept my gaze ahead while I spoke so as to not embarrass myself by seeing his reaction to something. The last time I told a boy I liked video games he had this look like he was going to propose right then and there… soooo creepy! For a moment I thought because I felt he asked something else but couldn’t remember what it was.
“Um… what was the other one?”

So she was a bit nerdy. Nick didn't mind at all, as for some odd reason he couldn't explain it was a bit of a turn on. Possibly because if she shared hobbies that guys usually did, then the guys would have more in common and find it easier to hang out with and tell things to her.
He did catch her looking at him and blushing. Nick thought that it was cute that she tried to hide it from him, too.
“Um… what was the other one?”
Nick realized that she didn't answer the last question he asked, which kind of slipped out in the first place. He decided to try and play it off anyways.
"Oh, I just asked if you were taken." he asked nonchalantly.
Nick grinned and looked at her, awaiting her answer.

Say what?! O.O … taken?! Was he…? Oh boy… I could feel the blood rushing to my head as the simple statement/question circled around inside. He was just asking… right? He wasn’t actually interested… no way! I mean he was nice, but it would never work. At least that is what I had to tell myself. I could just feel the redness of my face and hear the blood surging in my ears, quickly I turned my gaze downward to the realization that my feet had stopped moving during this time.
“Uh… well… I-I-I… um… n-no not ree-aa-lly…”
I finally managed to stammer out a response but I wasn’t sure where to go from there. The obvious route would be to point out that we wouldn’t work but that would be telling him I thought that he was showing interest and if he wasn’t that would be even more awkward. Crap! I guess I could just sit and wait… yeah… wait for my head to pop from embarrassment… man.
