Chess Game... (Open)

Max was hanging out during school. It was lunch time and he had quite a day so far but it wasn’t over yet. He had avoided a fight, played chess with a couple of people and now was hungry. He had always had a personal size chess bored in his bag. He absolutely loved chess. He walked into the cafeteria and grabbed some lunch. He grabbed an apple, turkey and ham sub and a large water. When he left the line he looked for a place to sit. All the tables were taken but one. It was unoccupied and Max quickly took it. That was good that he got one. Max dropped his lunch and grabbed his chess bored out. He was had challenged someone for later and wanted to get some practice. Max stood up and yelled…

“Anyone want to play some chess?”

Gabriel walked out into the center of the courtyard. Of course bright day as it usually had been though a cloud hanged darkly over his head. He needed something to take the pressure off and what better than a game. When the kid had suggested such of cousrse there was no other way to answer than the words he'd chosen.

"I guess you've found yourself an opponent." Gabriel replied with a charming smile walking lightly over to the boy.

Gabriel would sit down at a small table that was of perfect size for the occasion. He wouldn't give out a name not quite yet. Timing was everything and Gabriel would master it.

"After you white knight." His hand would trail over the board offering up the white pieces. Therefore the guest had chosen black.

Max gave a smirk at the comment. This guy seems like he would have no friends. Probably the reason he was alone right. Max smiled as the kid made his move. Something he hadn’t expected the kid to do but wasn’t out of the usual. Most people tried to get their queen out first. Max was contemplating his move. He wanted to draw out the game and get to know the person a little better. It always seemed that way when it came to chess. People always talked.

“Well I don’t know whether to be grateful for that or what so I’ll just say thanks.”

Max really didn’t know if he was complimenting him so he was a gentleman about it and just accepted it and moved on.

"You seem presumptuous in that fact." Gabriel smiled lightly assured by the first move that he was rather unimpressed.

The boy looked to be a novice but of course he thought the very same thing going up against Matrim and that hadn't turned out quite as well as he'd have expected it to turn out. The only one to have bested him in such a game. It infuriated him. Never to lose not to that man again. Next game they played it would be on Gabriel's terms.

Max gave a smirk at the comment. This guy seems like he would have no friends. Probably the reason he was alone right. Max smiled as the kid made his move. Strange movement, he certainly hadn't seen that play used on. Foolish. Emerald eyes surveyed the movement studiously even though the decision had already been made. Chess was more about the simple game it was about knowing how to bluff and how well you knew your foe. And since the two had yet to meet before this day Gabriel sought to find out this character's flaws his strengths and what his thumbscrew was. Certainly that was he key to his game. A small grin appeared on his face moving the piece.

Max watched as he made his move. It was the move he had just made except for a piece further. Hm… quite interesting if you asked him. Max was ready for the move though. He had been looking a couple of steps ahead so it didn’t throw him for to big of a twist. Max didn’t think the kid would do that but it was fine.

Gabriel would have laughed. The boy had no sense in worth. He had sacrificed his knight for a pawn. In the end game there'd be nothing to hold his begrudged army together moving single pieces rather than the numbers to his side. It seemed brash and unconcerned for the final affirmative end goal. Gabriel's end goal was already plotted in his head. Not merely victory but something much more.

"So mystery chess rival... Do I get a name?" Gabriel glinted a dark smile before moving his piece.

"When I deem you worthy enough I will let you have my name."

Max was ready for the kids move. It was the smart one so he didn't lose any pieces, for even the smallest pawn may be your biggest help. It all depended on what you did. If you rushed anyone they would simply take you out one piece at a time. In a game of chess it was all about strategy.

"Your move and do I get a name or must I also be deemed worthy enough?"

Gabriel laughed lightly taking it upon himself to move in progression with his own. He let out a small laugh.

"It seems as though we will be complete strangers for the time being white king."

Gabriel's hand moved over his eye holding up his head at a tilted angle. It was quite an amusing character most seemed so eager to give away the little things but still in that moment he gave off his own little secret. The boy was uncertain. Good, now to press him for exactly that.

“Seems to be that way but the problem is you have a nickname for me but I have none for you kind sir. So there for I shall call you black knight.”

Max didn’t care much whether the guy liked it or not. It wasn’t always the other person who got to choose. He chose for me so I chose for him. Fair trade in the slightest. Max quickly moved his piece already aware of what he was going to do from the last move. He was set and very confident.

'Black knight?' he had to admit he liked the ring to it. Everyone loved a good knight. The valiant warriors of a time long forgotten a symbol of justice, peace and power. Gabriel chuckled lightly as he shook his head. His long fingers outstretched the table moving his piece in avid defense.

Max watched as the student went after his knight. Yeah right. Their was no way he was taking that piece that easily. MAx quickly moved it out of harms way. Those two pawns are now useless. Unless someone places a piece next to them.

Like a battlefield Gabriel watched as his troops approached silently. He was prime to position his pieces perfectly to the best of their positions. His mind grew excited with the many possibilities that played out before him but the pawn he'd left in the open was the most viable on. A small grin, each pawn was a potential queen so the fact of wasting one was out of the question. The bishop made its way across the table threatening enemy territory. This would prove to be fun.

Crap he took my pawn. It wasn’t to bad but I had to watch it. I had to make sure I got all my pieces. I couldn’t lose anymore. I had to go on the offensive.
