Chess Game... (Open)

Good Gabriel now had to hold the pressure up, force him to make moves he didn't want to make. A small smile appeared. It was another game where all he needed to do was buy himself some time. He pondered as a hand circled the board smoothly moving his king and rook. A castle yes to fortify within.

After surveying the lunch hall for available seating, Malix discovers that her choice has been made for her. All the tables are full up except one, which is occupied by two people playing chess. Thus, the awkwardness of finding a seat that first day in the cafeteria would be avoided, since there was only one choice anyways.

Malix walks over and leans over the chess game, checking out the situation on the board. Why was this table mostly empty? Maybe no one wanted to disturb the chess players' concentration...what a caring community. Or, perhaps, no one wanted to be associated with the chess kids? That sounds a little more likely for high-school. Maybe these guys are feared? Ooooo scary....

Malix doesn't mind in any case. A meal and a show, sounds like a good deal. She sets down her tray and sits alongside the game, so she can observe the whole chessboard (and the players) clearly.

Malix pucks a banana from her tray and peels it, with her eyes on the board.

So they had a guest now. Well this was good for know the winner would have a witness if one person decided to lie. Max knew he wouldn’t but he also didn’t know the other person. Max watched as the kid castled. Not bad but not the best either.

Gabriel sized up the board quickly as a newcomer made her arrival. Curious eyes turned upward to catch her face. New? He hadn't seen her about here recently. Curious indeed. Gabriel made his move without any particular attention of recognition to the White King across the table whom was probably satisfied with his state at the moment but Gabriel would remain unmoved by the loss of pieces. The King had to step out onto the battlefield to become the Knight for a time being.

"Hello there..." Gabriel shot the woman a small smile very welcoming an unaffected by the game.

(OOC: Don't worry about me as far as post order goes...Malix is just spectating so feel free to skip her if you need to move it along)

Malix starts munching down on the banana. One of the players largely ignores her joining them at the table, which is perfectly fine with her. It's a game of strategy of course, and most people don't like to be bothered while thinking and witticizing.

When the other greets her welcomingly he catches her in the middle of a bite of banana. Malix gulps down the bite voraciously and snatches up a napkin which she wipes her lips with.

When she lowers the napkin she reveals a grin. "Well hello there to you too. Don't mind me, just watchin'!" she says amiably as she eyeballs the moves the players make with interest.

Ah. So he was going for the queen. Wasn’t very smart of a move. He was thinking that Max would take the bishop and he takes the queen probably. Would have worked if Max was stupid but playing chess all his life meant he wasn’t losing. Max hated to lose in chess. Now to see what the kid does.

"All right I was simply curious, a new face is always a gift." Gabriel gave a welcoming smile before focusing back upon the board.

His hand moved quickly to administer action unto the board. A retreat how unthreatening Gabriel suggested that he'd do the same but he'd keep his options open shifting his key bishop unit into a plain position assuring it's position couldn't be compromised.

"A gift, huh...

Malix remarks idly. Was this guy for real?

"...well don't get too excited I'm not giving it to you just yet."

Malix starts to chow down on her pepperoni roll, and watches the game closely. Both players are playing so incredibly defensively, dancing their pieces around in the back, waiting for weaknesses to expose themselves. This would be a long match. To be honest, Malix isn't sure she will have the patience to watch the whole game. That's chess though; patience and strategy. On some days these virtues are amongst Malix's capacities, but today isn't one of them it seems.

Max watched as the kid made his move. Max was not going to be beaten in this game. He would win at all cost. Especially since there is a girl here. Yes he had noticed but was worried about losing.. Not anymore though.
