Hiyami didn't know what to do. At all. She'd entered the cafeteria as she did every day she ate there. Everything was, for the most part, perfectly normal. The lines were set up, those who had their food were seating and eating, and there was that chattering sound that occurred whenever one set foot within a one hundred foot radius of any large body of people.
She'd simply nodded to herself - in her head, of course, because that would've looked odd if she'd done it in the real world - and headed for the shortest lunch line. She'd been standing there, minding her own business, really, when she suddenly heard a gasp coming from up front. Jerked from her zone of not-paying-attention-at-all, she pivoted to see what the gasp-er was gasping at.
And then she blinked as she took in what she saw. One table - just one, mind you - had gone a bit crazy. She wasn't sure she'd seen it, but she swore she saw a dinner roll hitting the light before returning to its owner's friend. Of course, it wasn't as though it landed peaceably in his tray. It had landed in the mashed potatoes... Which had gone fwoomp!
She - and many of the others - edged away, just a little bit. It didn't matter that she was already far away - half a cafeteria away, to be exact. The fact was, food was flying, and she really didn't want to have to go back to her apartment to change.
Hiyami checked for escape routes, only to find that there was still quite a number of people coming in. Getting out would be... difficult. Like trying to get your car to go uphill in the middle of a flash flood. Yeah, not easy at all.
She'd relaxed upon seeing some authority figures approaching the table.
But then she'd heard the dreaded call that often preceded mass amounts of insanity.
"FOOD FIGHT!"
And all hell broke loose.

Jin Woo had just settled down on a free table when he saw the dinner roll lodge itself in the mashed potatoes. Thinking that it was merely a prank that close friends pulled on each other, he ignored and started eating his food. It was only moments later when he heard the words
"FOOD FIGHT"
It took him a second or two to realize what was going on when a clump of coleslaw came flying and hit Jin Woo in the side of the face. With the coleslaw juice sliding down his cheek and the lettuce all over his hair, Jin Woo slid down under the table and watch the scene unfold before him. While the rowdiest group of students reveled in this food fight, some of the more reserved students began to look for a way out of this mess. In addition, some faculty members were trying desperately to stop the situation which only added to the chaos.
"Great..." muttered jin Woo under his breath. "It's been only a few days I got here and I'm already sucked up in this mess". Looking for a way to get out of the food fight before it got any worse, Jin Woo waited patiently and sat still.

Hiyami's eyes darted back and forth as she attempted to either get the hell out of the building.... Or find some relatively safe place to hide. She glanced over at the doors again. It was to no avail. They were all blocked - this time with some security guards, probably called by the teachers that had cafeteria duty - and besides, students were already trying to get out that way. Most were being rebuffed, and Hiyami swore when she saw a flash of green changing hands before one of the students left. She hated those who depended on money, though she had little right to say that, seeing as she had quite a bit herself.
But she'd rather help clean up the cafeteria than pay good, solid money to get out of the work. Of course, it bothered her - if she were completely honest, she wouldn't be lying if she said it pissed her off - but what oculd she do about it?
Instead, she tried to stay away from the more rowdy parts of the cafeteria. Which was damned near impossible, especially now that all of the students had gotten into the swing of things.
The cafeteria ladies were having a field day - people bought more food to add to the havoc... And it seemed none of the teachers had noticed yet. Hiyami simply shrugged, but then did a double-take when she saw one of the teachers buying a whole pizza, and then promptly hurling it into the fray.
Hiyami - and the teacher, she was sure - was amused to see that the pizza managed to stay afloat, much like a beach ball.
Still, she needed to head for cover. She checked the tables - most of them had people under them already. She started to head for one, but then was hit in the side of the head with a bunch of peas. She stopped short. Peas. Someone had just hit her with a spoonful of green peas.
She growled low in her throat, before shaking her head and continuing forward. Green peas wouldn't stain and they'd all virtually bounced right off, anyways.
And then Hiyami was hit with a piece of meatloaf. One that had been quite soaked in its sauce. Her white shirt? Yeah, it wasn't white anymore. Oh, and her calm, stable behavior and attitude? Yeah, that kind of took a flying leap outta the window.
Hiyami acted as anyone would in that kind of situation. She picked up the nearest tray - ignoring the fact that a student who had been doing his best to ignore the situation was still eating off of it - and promptly tossed it at some kids who had been taking cover under the table she was closest to.
If she got hit, they got hit. The logic didn't really make sense, but to an enraged Hiyami, it made perfect sense.
Besides, if she was doing clean up duty afterwards anyways, she sure as hell was going to make enough of a mess to be cleaning up.
Although she didn't speak, she did give a rather loud cry that sounded like something of a cross between a PMSing woman and a car crashing. Afterwards, she'd wondered how she'd made it.
And another tray went flying to another group of kids, hiding miserably beneath a table.

As he watched the food fight unfold in front of him, Jin Woo did his best to try and not get involved in the mess. In the middle of the food fight however, Jin Woo noticed that there was a girl hurtling not food, but food trays at anyone who was nearby.
"Who the heck throws food tr-", before Jin Woo could finish his sentence, the girl threw a food tray towards his direction. In an attempt to dodge the food tray, Jin Woo forgot that he was under the table and bumped his head on the bottom. Another moment later, the food tray hit him above the eye creating a small cut and causing blood to flow and mix with the coleslaw juice from earlier. A little dazed, Jin Woo recovered and thought to himself,
This girl is getting a little dangerous flinging around food trays like that. Food is fine but the trays are over doing it dammit.
In an attempt to stop the girl from hurting anyone else with the dangerous trays, Jin Woo slid out from under the table and ran towards the girl who looked as if she could devour the entire cafeteria in her anger.
"Hey! Watch out for what you're doing! " Just a half second after he finished his sentence, the girl hurtled another food tray at him. This time he was able to side step the object but stepped and slipped on a piece of greasy meatloaf two feet away from her.

Hiyami was still rampaging when she heard someone calling out.
"Hey! Watch out for what you're doing!"
She turned towards the voice, dropping the tray she'd had in her hands - it, and its contents, landed on some unsuspecting student's head. When she turned, she turned to see... no one? She thought she might've heard a thud, but she wasn't sure. Besides, it was too loud to think it was nearby. For all she knew, someone could've just overturned a trash can or something. She frowned, before shrugging, taking a couple steps forward, and then stopping.
Had she... just stepped on something squishy? I mean, that's to be expected during a food fight, but this bit of squishy had been a bit higher off the ground than food would be. Even if it was a pile of edibles. And edibles were less solid than this.
Hiyami looked down, knowing what she'd find, and somehow dreading it.
As she'd suspected, she'd stepped on someone. On his stomach, to be more exact. And he was bleeding.
"A head wound?!" she immediately backed off of him before kneeling beside him, holding a fist with two raised fingers over his head. "How many fingers do you see?"
Head wounds were, after all, scary. Her attention diverted, she felt a couple of meatballs hitting her back. She mentally sighed. Her shirt would never be the same again. Still, she waited for the guy's response, taking in a couple of details.
For one thing, he was Asian. As a fellow Asian, she guessed he was Korean. No, please don't ask how she knew. It's a really complicated Asian thing that Asians can do. It's just one of those racist sentiments, I think. But ultimately, it works. [For me, anyways. -shot-]
"Ummmm... Hello?"

After slipping on the meat loaf and falling on his back, Jin Woo felt a little winded but was able to recover his breath. Before he was able to get up, he felt himself being forced into the ground. This time, it was by a foot. Looking up at the girl who just stepped on him, Jin Woo found himself looking at two fingers which were held very close to his face.
"How many fingers do you see?" the girl asked Jin Woo.
Pushing aside her fingers and sitting up, Jin Woo replied, "I'm alright, I see two fingers.. At least you've snapped out of your rampage"
Jin Woo had meant to give the girl an extremely harsh sounding response, but his words ended up coming out as tired or resigned. He could not bring himself to be angry at a person who seemed concerned with another individual's condition. It was then that Jin Woo noticed that she was Asian and that she looked very young, either the same age as him or one year older. Admist the chaos within the cafeteria, it was even surprising to Jin Woo that this person, who was so violent and dangerous couple seconds earlier could become calm. Almost peaceful.
"Ummmm... Hello?" she asked.
Without directly looking at the girl, Jin Woo replied, "Hey... what you were doing earlier was pretty damn dangerous"
Noting that she seemed apologetic, he did not plan on telling her off at all. If a person looked sorry then there was no need to pursue "revenge" no matter how angry or upset the person injured felt.
As Jin Woo started to stand up, he noticed that another angry recipient of the food tray threw the same one that Hiyami had flung at them. Without thinking, Jin Woo shot his hand behind the girl's neck and pulled her to the ground in order to dodge the flying piece of plastic.

Hiyami flushed bright red when he spoke.
"I'm alright, I see two fingers... At least you've snapped out of your rampage." he'd said.
She hadn't meant to go on a rampage at all! If anything, she was typically a pacifist. The fact that she'd gone crazy at all absolutely mortified her, especially because she realized that people were getting injured. Example? The Jin Woo Head Wound. That's right, she'd even titled it.
When he'd responded to her confused greeting, she turned an even deeper red.
"I-I... I'm sorry." she said quietly, subdued. It had been pretty dangerous, and on top of that, as she could visibly see, someone had gotten hurt. She considered explaining her rage, but ultimately, she knew who was in the wrong, and it was obviously her. Food was one thing, but she had unthinkingly begun to toss trays at people as well. She could at least comfort herself in the fact that only a couple of trays had begun to fly before she'd been stopped. "Thank you."
She shifted her weight backwards, so that she wasn't leaning over him, as he began to get to his feet. Then, before she was fully aware of what was happening, she felt his hand yanking her down by her neck. Now, it must be noted that, while Hiyami does have some motor skills and can typically avoid things such as flying trays, it must also be noted that she's pretty much a doormat in the strength division, and he'd taken her by surprise.
Oh, and the laws of physics had decided to kick in, so she was pretty much yanked downwards - practically into his chest. I say practically, because her hands had, at some point, reacted to prevent the typical reaction when gravity decided to be a jerk and had come to prevent the fall.
When she heard the clattering of a tray meeting the ground somewhere past his shoulder, she winced. "I should probably go apologize to him." she muttered, moving away from the Asian male and getting to her own feet.
She held a hand out to him, intending to help him up. "Sorry about all this, and thanks for that." she said. "I'm Hiyami. It's nice to meet you."

"Sorry about all this, and thanks for that. I'm Hiyami. It's nice to meet you."
When the girl held out her hand to help him up, Jin Woo took it as a gesture of friendship and apology. He took her hand and got back up on his feet.
Ah... a Japanese name. I guess by the looks of it, it's safe to assume that she's japanese. The eyes, face shape, and hair style. Yeah definately japanese.
Although Jin Woo did not have much experience with Japanese people back in Southern California, he already had his own opinions of them. The Asian community back in Los Angeles which consisted of mostly Chinese, Koreans, Vietnamese, Thai and Filipino did not hold Japanese people very highly and held a general dislike for them. Jin Woo understood why though. Most of those people were part of the old generation who grew up as their countries were rebuilding and industrializing. They had to live with the consequences from the second world war as well as the civil wars that resulted from the aftermath. Therefore, Jin Woo was prone to dislike most Japanese people as well. However, he was not so close-minded that he would follow other people's words so blindly. He decided to give it a try at trusting Hiyami. Afterall... she did show him kindness and concern.
Attempting to reassure Hiyami that he was fine, Jin Woo gave her a quick smile and said,
"Nice to meet you as well. I'm Jin Woo". Looking at Hiyami a bit more closely, it seemed as if she was deeply embarrased with what she had done. In addition, she also looked like as if she wanted to make amends as well. Even though she appeared strong-willed and independent on the outside, he saw slight fear and anger in her eyes.
Smiling, Jin Woo wiped the blood off of his face with one hand then pat her head with the other.
"Hey. Don't worry about it. Alright?"
Turning Hiyami around slowly and pushing her from the back, Jin Woo began to lead her away from the main cafeteria where some people got the idea of throwing more trays at each other.
"Lets just get you out of this mess, haha."

Hiyami nodded absently when he gave her his name. Jin Woo... Didn't she used to have some cousin or the other called that? Nah, it was probably something she read in a book. She began musing as to how she might stop the food fight - even if she had participated in it. Especially since - and she noted this with a wince - more food trays were flying around.
As a result, she was surprised when Jin Woo suddenly patted her on the head. For a moment, she felt like an animal. A dog, maybe? She'd gone completely still - not even flinching, because that had long since been stamped out of her - and then become casual again, though a bit tense.
"Hey. Don't worry about it. Alright?" he said. He was fairly nice. From his actions, she deduced that he was someone that quick to forgive, but also fair-minded. He seemed like a nice person. He was reassuring - though she'd hit him with a tray - and was trying to help her.
She nodded at his words; after all, worrying would do nothing. She needed to take action, gosh darn it! That's what people were meant to do, and she was just as human as the others!
"Right!" she agreed enthusiastically. People of action were always fun. And typically either extremely good or extremely bad. But... he was nice, so she figured he was extremely good.
When he began to guide her out of the mess from behind, she was still a bit nervous. He was nice, yes, but she'd learned early on just how dangerous it was to have someone behind you.
"Let's just get you out of this mess," he said to her, before chuckling.
She frowned at that. Get you out, he'd said. Not 'Let's get out' or something like that, but just her?
"And you?" she asked him, turning her head slightly to look at him. Instead, she got a forkful of mashed potato to the face.

"And you?" she asked him before another lump of mashed potato hit her in the face. Taking out a clean napkin he often kept in one of his cargo pants pockets Jin Woo wiped the mashed potato off her face.
"From the looks of it, you're worse off than me." said Jin Woo as he looked at the food stains which had discolored her previously clean white shirt. "And, a girl should keep a neat, clean appearance as well. not saying that it is your fault of course." Just then Jin Woo was hit by another barrage of mashed potatoes and coleslaws as meatballs sailed over his head and stained the cafeteria floor red.
"Annnnd... I think people have a problem with me pulling you out of the food fight." said Jin Woo as he wiped some more coleslaw out of his eyes. Sure enough, Jin Woo noted that some people start to pick up these food trays and start small brawls across the canteen.
"My first time in the eating area and this.. greeeaaaaat."
Left and right, random people started to engage each other in fist fights while others who did not realize what was going on were still flinging around food like grenades. Since Jin Woo looked young and vulnerable, one of the upperclassman who started the scuffle decided to approach and tackle him to the floor. He hoped that this would go unnoticed amongst the chaos and that no one would care if some measly freshmen got hurt in the process.
"What the hell?!" shouted Jin Woo as the upperclassman began to punch him in the abdomen. Gritting his teeth, the young boy took the pain before quickly wrapping his legs around his assailant's waist. Taking advantage of his opponent's confused reaction, Jin Woo shifted his weight downward while thrusting the attacker upward with his legs. The move caught the upperclassman to lose his balance and plant both hands onto the hard ground. Noticing an open spot, Jin Woo gave a quick short punch to the opponent's gut. However, the boy was not able to put much force behind it since his back was on the ground and he had very little moving space.

Where the hell had he kept that napkin? Hiyami blinked confusedly, before realizing that he'd cleaned her face off. She blushed bright red at his words, and then promptly grinned when she heard him complaining. She added 'easy-going' to the list of traits she'd mentally started. She typically had a list on most of the people she knew, simply committing them to memory.
When the upperclassman tackled him, however, she'd stopped short, appalled, and entirely unsure of what to do. The moment passed quickly, though, and she attempted to drag the older student off of Jin Woo by the back of his shirt.
Unfortunately, Hiyami was, as mentioned, a complete and total weakling. The upperclassman was rather brawny, and she was, ultimately a stick. She mentally swore, before trying for another recourse - doing this by herself hadn't even gotten the older male to move. If anything, she was pretty sure he hadn't even noticed her attempts at intervention.
She glanced around quickly, and reached down to pick up a glob of mashed potatoes that had landed near her, and promptly ground it into the upperclassman's face. In particular, she aimed for the vital spots - the eyes and nose. The eyes would keep him from seeing, and of course he'd want it out of the way, so he could either get away or proceed to beat the hell out of Jin Woo. Getting mashed potatoes in the nose though.... Well, no one liked getting anything shoved up there.
While the upperclassman was distracted, Hiyami shoved him, putting as much weight behind it as she could without falling over herself. As she'd predicted, the upperclassman sort of... rolled out of range of Jin Woo.
She knew she needed to move quickly. Interfering with fights that were typically one on one.... Yeah, not a good idea. She half-helped, half-dragged Jin Woo to his feet and shoved him in front of her, powerwalking as quickly as she could to get the hell outta there.
"Shit, shit, shit!" she cursed. She'd probably be targeted next, but she could deal with that later - once she'd gotten Jin Woo to some amount of relative safety.
"How bad is the damage?" she asked him, wanting to know his condition. After all, depending on how bad the pain was, she might have to change tactics. A good hiding place, if it was very bad, and getting far away if it wasn't.

Before rolling out of the way, the upperclassman managed to land a clean punch on the side of Jin Woo's cheek cutting up the insides of his mouth. As the assailant rolled out of the way, Jin Woo felt himself being helped and dragged off the floor, away from the food fight. Tasting blood inside his mouth, Jin Woo spat out the blood in order to prevent himself from choking on it. Spots of blood dripped onto his shirt when Jin Woo heard Hiyami asking him,
"How bad is the damage?"
Jin Woo replied, "Don't worry about me, I'm doing just great. A little blood here and there but it's all good." At this time, Jin Woo was just looking for a way to take Hiyami out of this whole mess. What started as a simple food fight had now escalated to a full blown fight which involved food. It was a disgusting little scene where people not only trampled over food, but used them as weapons of cheap tactics.
As Jin placed himself in front of Hiyami in order keep her away from the line of fire, it turned out that the upperclassman that she had attacked was not going to let her and Jin Woo go so easily. Shouting in anger and frustration, he once again charged towards the two. This time he was not only aiming for Jin Woo, but for Hiyami as well. Taking a slice of squashed pizza from the floor, the upperclassman flung it at Jin Woo and then aimed to punch at Hiyami.
However, Jin Woo was able to parry the pizza with his hand and proceeded to counterattack the upperclassman's approach.
"Well apparently, the foot is longer and stronger than the fist.." said Jin Woo as he first aimed a kick at his opponent's liver with the left foot then the face with his right foot. The first kick was parried by an elbow, but the second kick connected at the left cheek stunning the upperclassman. Jin Woo then stepped in with his left foot and punched the upperclassman in the solar plexus which caused him to wheeze and fall on his knees. The upperclassman would not be able to move for a while as a direct hit to the solar plexus would severely damage a person's ability to breathe.
"Hiyami, are you doing alright?"

Hiyami frowned when he told her that he was 'doing great.' Yeah, because spitting up blood and getting squashed and punched to pieces in the gut really led up to a guy being great. She scowled at him, irked.
"Stop trying to be so tough!" she scolded him. Then, she saw the incoming upperclassman and promptly flinched before turning to at least meet him head on. She saw Jin Woo parrying a slice of pizza - had the upperclassman thrown that? - out of the corner of her eye before she forced herself to keep her eyes on the enemy. She knew nothing about fighting. That much was evident from her weak stance. Her feet were shoulder width apart, which she had heard was good, but it was obvious she wasn't used to it, and her hands were pretty much coming up to block whatever punch the guy threw.
She was, therefore, surprised when Jin Woo came out of frickin' nowhere and essentially beat the crap out of the upperclassman. She was relieved that she wasn't going to be involved in any mass amount of pain, and then winced in sympathy when she saw him essentially kicking the guy to pieces.
Just as she heard him ask about her own welfare, she felt arms wrapping around her, pinning her arms, and holding her against a firm chest. She froze up, before warily half-turning - or attempting to, anyways. The guy that had grabbed her was obviously bigger than she was, and, as she'd looked to the side, she'd realized that he wasn't alone. He had at least two others flanking him, and though she did attempt to squirm out of his grip, he only tightened his hold on her, making her wince.
"Um, I'm fine...?" she said in a bit of a wobbly voice. "Now would be a really good time for you to head for the exit. I'll just... uh.... Go the other way?"
"Hello, kitten. Wanna play?" the guy holding her practically growled. Her eyes went wide. Again. Why was she so weak again? Oh, right - she'd stupidly turned down the self-defense lessons that the government had so kindly offered her.
What the hell was she even saying? Well, to be honest, she had no idea.... But her pacifistic ideals had popped into her head, and they essentially told her: Get Jin Woo out of here.

"Um, I'm fine...?" she said in a bit of a wobbly voice. "Now would be a really good time for you to head for the exit. I'll just... uh.... Go the other way?"
"Wait..." said Jin Woo, "Did you just tell me to go the other way?"
The boy turned around only to see that Hiyami was being hugged by a rather large and menacing looking guy. This upperclassman smirked as Jin Woo looked at him up and down with a slightly resigned face. Along with the upperclassman who held Hiyami in a tight "embrace" were his peers who started to snicker and crack their knuckles. It seemed as if they were goading Jin Woo to go ahead and try something.
To Jin Woo however, all they looked like were a bunch of guys who enjoyed playing roughly. He then saw one of the guys whisper something into Hiyami's ear and then turn his attention to Jin Woo with a malicious look on his face.
"Uhh.. is that guy your boyfriend?" asked Jin Woo. "If so, there's nothing really going on between us you know..."

Hiyami shook her head slowly, realizing he wasn't going to run for it like she'd hoped. "Er... no?" she muttered before gasping as the guy that held her pulled another hand against her throat and chin.
"C'mon, kitty, don't be like that. We want to play." the guy said. Hiyami shuddered at the tone, before attempting to bring her arm up to at least wedge it beneath the guy's arms, but it was to no avail. She seriously hated being a weakling. She hated it.
"Sorry, but kitty doesn't wanna play. Can you let me down now?" she asked as sweetly as she could.
The other two guys started moving forward, and the guy holding Hiyami moved back. A sense of dread filled her stomach. Oh, hell no. Were they... trying to separate them?
