So this is something I do on Point Hope with items that I would actually like to suggest that 42 does as well, and I think this makes a lot of sense.
Whenever I see an item or power that increases a stats percentage I am often reminded of the order of operations in math. Now for those of you who have been out of school or don't remember, Multiplication, Division and then Add, subtract is the basic order for this. (just a part of the order of operations anyway)
We don't seem to do this on 42.
With items it seems people will add/subtract before they multiply/divide.
For instance somebody will have an item that has X2 to a stat, and items that +15 to the stat.
So for instance, here's a scenario.
Joe has 40 base wisdom. Joe's got two items, he has Chess Club Captain's Glasses which give him X2 to wisdom, and he has Modified Hearing Aids which give him +15 to his Wisdom.
The way the items work now, he would add the 15 wisdom, and then multiply by 2.
40+15=55
55x2=110
So Joe has 110 Wisdom. Joe's awesome, he's definitely not oblivious at this point.
Anyway, my suggestion is that instead of this, the multiplications come first, and THEN the additions given by items or other means take effect.
40x2=80
80+15=95
This way it encourages players to increase their base stats more, making it so that they can't get completely beefed up on items. And yes, I realize that there aren't many x2 items in circulation, but there are the Qi's to take into account, as well as the +10% items and stuff like that (adding a percentage is just a small scale multiplier i.e. x1.10)
