Mental Information
Personality: Seven is, first and foremost, kind. She’s as nice to people as possible, but, if she gets a bad feeling about someone, she’ll typically snub them on the first meeting. Though she’ll usually later regret it and apologize, it depends on the person’s reaction. If they react overzealously to whatever snub she might pit, she’ll typically stay away from them, because her bad feeling has come true in some form or another. In short, that kind of person is not someone with whom she might get along with easily. If they are offended less loudly or whatnot, she’ll likely apologize. Her motto, “Do unto others before they do unto you,” was designed to protect the one who followed it. After all, if you are kind first, you can typically expect it back. If you were rude first, you can expect rudeness back. Essentially, it’s another way of saying that to make the first move is to both garner the type of person the other is and to set the pace of the relationship between you.
Likes: Food, flowers, butterflies, and reading/writing poetry.
Dislikes: Stupidity. Assholes, posers, and most bugs.
Mentality: By nature, Seven is someone who moves first, and thinks later. Ultimately, she believes that the end does justify the means, to an extent.
Ideal: Seven believes in planning at least two steps ahead and follows the warped version of the Golden Rule - "Do unto others before they do unto you," - in both good and bad ways.
Belief: N/A - she was always taught to believe in herself and to be the best that she could be.
Physical Information
Build: She's tall, slim, and slender. What else is there to say? She's very fit, managing to be muscled, but not butch. She's also got slightly tanned skin. It's not because she goes to those places that turn you orange - it's because she does most of her training outdoors. Smooth skin, and all - after all, she was a model for a little time.
Defining Marks: There is a small red heart tattoo on her left inner thigh.
Description: Seven has long, dark brown hair that falls in gentle waves and curls to about the middle of her back, and she has dark eyes which are accented by her long eyelashes. Seven is slim, as mentioned above, and she’s also fairly tall, especially for someone Asian. Seven has an hourglass figure, long legs and all, and though she might sometimes place a dusting of makeup on herself for special occasions, she typically stays away from it, even if it is organic. Seven is lightly tanned, but it’s particularly light because though she spends a lot of time outdoors training for the naginata, katana, and Tae Kwon Do, she also spends much more time indoors working on various other things, including, but not limited to, her studies, hobbies, and other things. Seven has hands that are very soft, despite the rough handling they endure, but that might just be because she applies lotion to them every morning and evening. She can typically be seen in slacks or jeans and either a blouse or a T-shirt, depending on the time of day and where she is. If she's at home by herself, she may put on a yukata, but that's dependent on several factors. She typically has at least one of her two weapons with her most of the time. Her katana is likely to be either wrapped and carried with her, as is typical, on what she feels will be normal days. Her naginata, though, will be carried with her on days when she feels something might happen.
Fighting Information
Fighting Style:
Tae Kwon Do
Naginata[Dull/Practice Blade]
Katana[Dull/Practice Blade]
Years Practiced: 11
Description of style: Tae Kwon Do is a martial art that utilizes both the hands and feet. Contrary to popular belief, Tae Kwon Do is not based on kicking. Although many of the more effective forms are lent to kicking – because there is a far greater range – many are also dedicated to parrying or immobilizing opponents with various strikes and movements from the hands. This allows Seven to take just about anyone on with her long legs when it comes down to point blank distance and a serious lack of weapons.
Her dulled katana – it was dulled in order to allow her to bring it with her onto school property – is useful when it comes to fighting with weapons at close range. Hell, it’s already an advantage against someone that doesn’t have a weapon, but her honor keeps her from abusing that too much, resulting in her typically reverting to Tae Kwon Do. On the other hand, though the katana is a close-range weapon, it’s useful as far as fending off long range weapons and close range weapons due to its easy maneuverability.
Her dulled naginata, on the other hand, is very useful as a long range weapon. She can use it as a long-handled axe, thrust with it, or she can cut up with the curved edge of it. It also works as a good shield – the staff of it – when it comes to being attacked. Oh, and were the end to come off, she could use the remaining wood as a staff.
Overall Strengths: Because she typically carries one of her weapons around with her, she’ll always have at least one viable form of defense. On the other hand, the bulkiness of said weapons can get in her way when she’s doing something. She’s got strength in her arms and legs thanks to Tae Kwon Do and her weapons training, and her balance is impeccable thanks to her dance classes.
Overall Weaknesses: They also make for a good way of striking back at her if her opponent grabs them in order to get closer, because their edges have been dulled to follow the school policy. Though she’s strong as far as arms and legs go and her stamina is good, she can’t take many direct blows. In addition to this, if the enemy has a bug or something on or near whatever they’re using to attack her – a fly resting on the blade, a cockroach on his foot – she will be more likely to dodge than to defend.
History Information
History: Seven’s true name is Nana, but when her father attained her visa to live in America, he used the closest translation he could find instead of the actual word. In this case, Nana was the Japanese word for the number Seven, so that is what Nana’s name became. She does, however, answer to both. To explain Seven’s history, the history of her parents must also be explained.
Her father’s name was Kingston, Satoshi. He was three-quarters Japanese and one-quarter American thanks to his paternal grandfather who married a Japanese woman. Satoshi, while traveling, found himself seated next to Kim, Hyon Joo on a plane. Though she was Korean, she didn’t seem to hold him in bad esteem as many Koreans and quite a few other Asian nationalities did. He was both surprised and intrigued. They got to talking, and he eventually asked her if he could see her again just before the plane landed. Hyon Joo was surprised, but she agreed, nonetheless.
The plane landed in Seoul, Korea. He ended up seeing her to her home and meeting her parents, both of whom disliked him from the moment they laid eyes on him. Satoshi was disheartened, but he simply couldn’t stop thinking about Hyon Joo. English was their common language, and he began to teach it in Korea, having picked up on the language quickly. Korean grammar was essentially the same as Japanese grammar, so all he needed to do was learn it and commit it to memory. He also began to teach Japanese.
It must be understood here that Hyon Joo and Satoshi were both from wealthy families, and by wealthy, it must also be understood that they were highly respectful of their cultures. It was only natural that both families united in only one thing: to keep Hyon Joo and Satoshi from getting married to each other.
For three years, Hyon Joo was sent to study in America. At the same time, Satoshi was stuck in Korean, teaching, and simply biding his time. His became a rather popular name as he disproved the many myths about all Japanese. He was neither short-tempered nor unkind, and he certainly didn’t strike out at anyone. Rather, he could be seen helping grandmothers crossing streets, and getting walloped by those who remembered the Japanese invasion a little too well. In those three years, his name spread even to Hyon Joo’s parents.
Instead of reconsidering their original opinions of him, they simply sent their daughter, newly arrived to Korean, to China to study the language – a feat that could take a very long time.
Satoshi lost his temper when he heard this. Though his family repeatedly attempted to recall him, he refused to return until he spoke with Hyon Joo at least once more. He managed this by flying to China himself to find her. It took several days of footwork, much money, and lots of questioning, but he ultimately did find her. He spoke to her – they promised that they’d meet once more in the future, though they decided to leave it up to fate – and he went home.
At home, he performed his familial duties – as the only child, he was to be the ‘perfect son’ and he played his part well. Meanwhile, Hyon Joo began to act on her own. She stopped eating. When asked why wouldn’t eat, she only said, “The man I love is far away from me. Of course I cannot eat.”
After some time, it was deduced that the man was Satoshi – not that it was very difficult. Appalled, Hyon Joo’s family sent her to live in America. Two weeks later, they mysteriously disappeared. Apparently, they’d been out driving to a country house, and had simply never returned. By this time, Satoshi had gained control over his own clan. Hyon Joo, too, was her own woman now, in charge of her own companies and whatnot. She took over seamlessly, having been in training for this for so long.
Then, about a year after this, she flew to Japan on a business trip. Lo and behold, she was seated next to one Kingston, Satoshi. Upon seeing her, he asked her to marry him. Of course, having waited for so long, she said yes.
They were married within a year. A year after that, they had a baby girl. They decided to name her Nana, in honor of Hyon Joo finally attain her seventh company. Besides, Nana was also the seventh child of her generation to be born in the clan, having six older cousins.
As the daughter of an immensely wealthy household, she was educated as a young lady was. However, her training was a bit more difficult because she was taking on the cultures of two worlds: Korean and Japanese. She began to learn to use the naginata and katana when she was five. At the same time, she took on Tae Kwon Do. She learned was tutored in Japanese Dance by a woman called Tokonomi, Shima. Shima also taught her the Tea Ceremony and Flower Arrangement. A Korean woman, Choi, Jin Joo, taught her Korean Dance and how to cook. She found that she loved cooking and Jin Joo taught her everything she knew – Japanese, Korean, American, Chinese, Mexican – the list went on and on, and Nana loved all of it.
She began to spend her free time near the kitchens, learning how to cook from the chefs and learning new tricks all the time. Though wary of her at first, the chefs quickly lost their nervousness and treated her as they would any apprentice.
Music and art were also things that she took up on her own. Because she felt that nothing should be done half-heartedly, she took on tutors in both subjects as well. She became proficient with any instrument quite quickly. It helped that she needed only slight amounts of sleep to last her through the day, so she was constantly practicing. Art, though, she took on purely for self-expression. She liked it almost as much as cooking. She loved anything artistic because she saw them as new and different ways to express herself. She became knowledgeable in just about any form of art, though sculpting stone still typically defeats her.
She had a little sister. A girl called Nabi, which meant butterfly in Korean. Nabi was two years younger than she was, but that didn’t last long. When Nana was twelve, the family had gone out to have a picnic. They were wealthy, and Hyon Joo was a very good business woman. It was obvious that they had enemies. Of course, they knew that it was risky, which was why they’d rented the whole park for the day and had set up a perimeter of bodyguards.
The family had been playing a game of tag – a rare indulgence for the parents – when the sniper had shot at Hyon Joo, aiming for her heart. Unfortunately, Hyon Joo had fallen over at just that moment, having tripped over her own feet.
Nabi took the shoot straight in the head. The only thing that was good about that, though, was that Nabi had died immediately and painlessly. That did not, however stop the grief. Hyon Joo became hysterical and quickly lost her touch as a business woman, feeling that if she hadn’t been so proficient in the business world, her child would still be alive. Satoshi, however, was no fool. He took over, and only aided in expanding their companies.
They no longer had family outings. Seven was lucky if she saw her parents twice in one day. Neither of them wanted to make her a target. Unfortunately, Hyon Joo’s condition – the shock – did not improve. She died when Seven was fourteen. Satoshi, frustrated, and not wanting to keep his daughter at the main house, where the other power hungry members of his family were able to harass her, moved her to San Francisco, California in the United States of America. Although she had to say farewell to both Jin Joo and Shima, Seven was more than capable of taking care of herself. Besides, her father had purchased an entire apartment building for her in her name. It had been renovated to suit her tastes.
With her came roughly eight or nine others. She’d wanted to come alone, and her father had wanted her to take twenty servants and thirty bodyguards, but she’d put her foot down at taking fifty men out of the country. Getting the visas and moving to another continent was already a hassle as it was.
She had considered going to an upper class private school, but had decided that she wanted to try living a life that wasn’t ‘sheltered.’ Seven applied to Public High School #42.
