His mother only cared about her husband and her image. They never went out as a family, and rarely ate together. When he was born, his mother looked after him, but only until he was old enough to look after himself. Li went to elementary school, made friends, and hung out like all normal kids do, but because both of his parents were busy, Li always came home to an empty house, his parents usually didn't come home until evening, which suited Li just fine. When Li was 13 however, his life took a dramatic change.
His father and mother were going out for dinner, just the two of them. Li was left at home, and his parents left. Little did he know, that would be the last time he would see his parents. After they had dinner, his father had a little bit too much wine, and although his mother was reluctant to get into the car with him, his father threatened and forced her to, so she got into the car. He insisted that he was fine, but he wasn't. They were driving down a poorly lit stretch of road, and his father, who was drunk, didn't notice he had drove into the other side of the road. With his wife asleep, he didn't realize his mistake. His car slammed right into the car going in the opposite way. The driver of the other car had minor injuries, but his mother and father weren't so fortunate. Both of them were injured heavily, and were barely clinging onto life.
They were rushed to the hospital, but passed away upon reaching the hospital, and a policeman came to the house to inform Li. As soon as Li heard the news, instead of crying, as expected, instead he just stood there, a stoic expression on his face. With both his parents gone, his grandfather looked after him, having taken over as the boss of the Phoenix Period once more, until Li was old enough to take over himself.

Entering into Public High School #552, Li, for the most part, kept to himself, though he did try to earn a Pillar title, he promptly disappeared for a period of time soon after. The moment he returned however, he was appointed Vice President by his friend, Leanne, who was the Student Council President, and became entangled with a group called "Minerva," having been called to the meeting by Leanne. "Minerva" wished to end the fighting within the school, by brutally punishing those who fought, but Li kept out of the enforcing, being the Vice President and all, and merely kept to the sidelines, aiding those who were punished. However, his return did not last long, as Li found himself caught and charged with assault, after injuring a rival Triad member that had ambushed him. Li was given a choice, go to Point Hope High School, a prison school, or prison. Naturally, Li choose the school.
Point Hope High
Once Li started attending the high school, he decided to change his name, because he didn't want people to associate him with his father, and took his mother's maiden name as his own. He then ended up making friends with some of the students, including one particular girl, Alexis Green. She had told him that she was a pathological liar, but despite knowing that, he became friends with her, but that all changed when she suggested to him that they sleep together. He wasn't too happy about this, and rejected and avoided her, even implying that she was a sleeper, but as soon as the words left his mouth, he felt terrible about doing that. He then ended up in a Chemistry class with her, and heard her basically invite the teacher to sleep with her, which made him want to palm his face. He then received a call from Alexis, asking for him to see her, which he did, but he wasn't the only one she had called, she had called a crimson haired girl, who Li later found out was named Lina, and a guy with blond hair, and, unknown to everyone but Lina, a guy who was part of Lina's group. Alexis then spilled everything, how she had been a virgin, how many guys she slept with, her past, you name it, she spilled it. Despite knowing this however, Li accepted Alexis once more, and they made up.

Li also made friends with Point Hope's School Captain's girlfriend, Reira DeMorvick. Although Li didn't see her as much as he saw Alexis, when he did see her again, he found out she was engaged. He gave her his congrats, but then they had a friendly spar, which quickly turned bad, for Li. He ended up in the hospital with a wound to the back of his head.

They ended up becoming closer to each other and slept with each other again, but Li became more attached to Alexis as time went on, though he eventually realized that because he told her he didn't care what she did or would do, she purposely slept with other guys just to get his attention, though it didn't work. But Li realized that he loved Alexis, and cared for her more than anything, even himself, and she loved him back. This led the two of them leaving Alaska, and moved to San Francisco. Li then bought a beach front condo for him and Alexis with the money he was left, though Li somehow lost his Qi, as did Alexis, and though she's still an insomniac, she can actually go to sleep now. Now that they're in San Francisco, Li will finish his second last year of high school, having left mid-way through the year, and is looking forward to starting a new life.

After talking, the two of them made up, only for the joyful reunion to be shattered. A car skidded off the road, and crashed into the cafe, sending glass flying everywhere. Li came out relatively uninjured, though Alexis on the other hand, came out worse.
She had shielded Li from the glass using herself to protect him, resulting in a shard of glass stabbing her in the side. No matter what he tried, he could not stop the bleeding, she was dying in his arms. Heartbroken, he granted her one last happy dying wish, and asked her to marry him, giving her the silver earring he constantly wore in substitute for a ring. Completely broken, Li couldn't bear to attend her funeral, because he knew if he did, he would end up breaking down. The same night, he decided to leave San Francisco... forever.

Just as Li was about to leave San Francisco, he was knocked out before he even stepped foot outside his house, ending up kidnapped alongside the daughter of a Triad allied with the Phoenix Period, the Kirin Kingdom, by a rival Triad gang of his grandfather, his father's father, the Dragon Dynasty, and taken to Shanghai, China. Now captured in the hands of the rival Triad gang, he was kept under the gang and trained to be some kind of weapon. He was subsequently injected with an experimental serum that literally destroyed the chromosomes from the DNA of both his parents, replaced with chromosomes from the DNA of the third boss and his wife of the Triad gang. During that time, Li's memory was tinkered with and he was made to believe that he was the son of the third boss of the Triad gang. Any real memories of his real father and mother had either been erased by the serum, forgotten, or repressed. He was then released, having graduated from high school and sent to university by that time.
