Mental Information
Personality:
Jin Woo is the type of individual who gains happiness through helping his peers or those around him. While he may become selfish at times in order to protect himself, Jin Woo believes that looking out for the welfare of others is more important than that of his own. However, such kindness is often taken advantage of and this has caused him to diligently analyze people before letting them know that they have gained his trust. While it may be difficult to gain Jin Woo¡¯s trust, he is extremely easy to get along with as long as mutual respect exists between him and the acquaintance.
Jin Woo does not make unnecessary conversation because he often prefers to keep to himself. If he enters a room full of people but they would not talk to him, Jin Woo would be fine with finding a place to sit and remain in silence. On the other hand if someone were to start a conversation with Jin Woo, he would be more than happy to talk to that person. While he may be quiet and reserved, the boy can be open and gregarious as well.
Jin Woo is however, very particular about the information he gives about himself to others. If he feels that the person genuinely cares, the young boy is willing to talk about his opinions and troubles about his own personal life. Whereas if the person asks just for the sake of knowing, Jin Woo would either give an extremely short answer or politely ask him or her to stop caring.
As Jin Woo grew up in the heart of Koreatown, Hollywood in Los Angeles, he has good manners expected of a young Korean man. Amusingly, he always bows whenever he meets his friends¡¯ parents whether or they are of the Asian origin. Basically, it has become a habit for him to just bow every time he met someone older than he was.
Like his father, Jin Woo cannot stand to give up or lose when he still has a chance of succeeding or completing a task. He believes that if a person does not give it their best from start to finish, it is better that he or she had not started it at all. Jin Woo also places a large emphasis on trust and loyalty, which probably explains why he has few ¡°close friends¡±.
Aside from his seriousness, Jin Woo is actually a jokester who enjoys teasing his friends and having a great time. In whatever he does, Jin Woo attempts to enjoy life to the fullest no matter the situation.

Physical Information
Build:
Jin Woo has a well-toned body built through years of training in Tae Kwon Do and participation in various sports activities. However, Jin Woo has recently started to gain more muscle mass as he took on the methods of ¡°Ground fighting¡±. Sadly, he has not grown in two years and hopes to grow taller as he becomes older. Due to his many outdoor activities, Jin Woo¡¯s skin tone happens to be slightly tanned because he tends to wear long sleeved shirts in the summer as well.
Defining Marks:
N/A
Description:
Jin Woo tends to keep his hair short for easy maintenance and rarely lets it grow very long. However, there are some instances in which he lets his hair grow out and lets his bangs fall over the left side of his face. Like most Koreans, he has extremely dark brown eyes and has an oval shaped face. He is not necessarily the most handsome Korean guy to ever walk on earth, but is considered to be decent looking and maybe even ¡°cute¡±. He rarely shows much emotion even amongst his peers and prefers to be ¡°reserved¡±. When he does voice his opinions or shows his emotions, one could say that Jin Woo can be charismatic as well. Since he grew up in a diverse yet closed environment, Jin Woo has a very subtle Korean accent when he speaks English.
Jin Woo often wears casual attire with comfortably fitting jeans or cargo pants. He rarely wears shorts even on the hottest days of summer except when he goes running. During colder days, Jin Woo could be found wearing dark colored hoodies as well as wearing a short sleeve shirt under a long sleeve or vice versa. As for shoes, Jin Woo prefers to wear running shoes because you never know when you need to run for public transportation or many other situations. Generally, Jin Woo prefers to wear light shoes because it helps him kick or use his feet in almost any situation.
One thing that Jin Woo always wears day after day is a silver cross pendant and an engraved dog tag that is hung on a chain. This pendant holds much significance for him as he never takes it off.
Fighting Information
Fighting Style:
-Tae Kwon Do
-Ground-fighting
Years Practiced:
-Tae Kwon Do: 8 years
Ground-fighting: 1 year
Description of style:
Tae Kwon Do: The literal translation of this martial art is ¡°The way of the hand and the foot¡±. This martial art has a heavy emphasis on kicking techniques that consists of not only attack and defensive maneuvers but the concept of counter as well. Note that Tae Kwon Do is not same as the Japanese Martial Art Karate. Tae Kwon Do relies on the clever usage of feints and combinations of fast kicks in order to take down an opponent. Contrary to popular belief, Tae Kwon Do does not teach merely kicking techniques, as its more artistic ¡°forms¡± known as ¡°Pal Gae¡± or ¡°Tae Geuk¡± incorporates hand strikes to immobilize an opponent and blocks to parry attacks.
Ground-fighting: Ground-fighting is a commonly used term in the armed forces as a Military Martial art, which mostly consists of submission holds and joint manipulation. In short, it is a conglomeration of techniques taken from many martial arts such as Jiujitsu and Sambo that emphasizes combat when on one¡¯s back or close to the ground. This martial art emphasizes the tenacity of each practitioner and requires short powerful bursts of energy in order to catch an opponent off guard, exploit his or her weakness and catch them in a submission hold.
Overall Strengths:
Tae Kwon Do: Since this martial art emphasizes the use of kicks, it holds a clear advantage over other martial arts, which only rely on the hands in terms of power, range, and speed. In addition to ¡°long range¡± combat, a Tae Kwon Do practitioner can be quite efficient in close combat as well through the use of the knee, elbows, and the fist.
Ground fighting: The strength of ground fighting is the versatility of the art. Since it incorporates many techniques from a variety of submission Martial Arts, combinations from one move to another can be seemingly endless. Another advantage of ground fighting is that it exploits natural human fear of suffocation and helplessness.
Generally, Jin Woo has quick reflexes due to his fighting experiences in Tae Kwon Do and is quick to take advantage of an opponent¡¯s mistakes in combat. His body is also strong enough to take a decent amount of damage in order to set up a counterattack that tends to throw his opponents off balance.
Overall Weaknesses:
Tae Kwon Do: The weakness of Tae Kwon Do is that it is wholly one-dimensional. It is only useful when the practitioner is on his or her feet. Once taken to the ground, many if not all of Tae Kwon Do techniques are rendered useless. In addition, the center of balance can easily be disrupted when a Tae Kwon Do practitioner is in the middle of a kick. A strong enough push could relatively neutralize a large amount of force as long as the push or parry is made before the kick itself lands.
Ground fighting: The weakness of ground fighting is the fact that it¡¯s one-dimensional as well. Many of the techniques rely on both the opponent and the practitioner to be either on or close to the ground. Once the opponent stands up, the only technique a ground fight technician could use are takedown methods that push the opponent to the ground. Another weakness of ground fighting is that this Martial Art is that it is extremely taxing on the practitioner¡¯s stamina. Any ground fight session that lasts more than 5 to 6 minutes is considered to be ¡°extremely long¡±.
Due to his many years in practicing Tae Kwon Do, Jin Woo is easily susceptible to joint injuries if hit in the correct places. In addition, Jin Woo has trouble fighting against most people who are over twenty pounds heavier than he is. The weight issue is not much of a problem when he fights standing up. It does however, prevent him from using many of his techniques when he is fighting on the ground.
History Information
History: Must be at least 2 paragraphs (350 words). If your character is "mysterious" you still must put information here, and say that people aren't to know this.
¡°Oppah¡¦(¿Àºü)I have to go to band practice at six and I have no one to take me¡±, said a young girl who appeared to have only recently become thirteen years old. She took couple steps forward and began to rock her older brother from his nap. Getting no response, she punched him in the stomach, which woke her brother up immediately. Happy with her response, she quickly left the room and said, ¡°Oppah, you¡¯re coming with me in ten minutes¡±.
Rubbing the sore spot, the brother groaned ¡°Going where in ten minutes¡¦¡±
Somewhere off in another location of the house a voice rang out, ¡°To school, stupid¡±.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
As shown above in this short dialogue, Jin Woo has been responsible for his little sister¡¯s welfare ever since she was born and he was able to think for himself. He grew up in Korea town, Los Angeles, California where the social environment was not necessarily beneficial for youth. The young boy was raised into a family of four children in which his eldest brother was five years older and his eldest sister three years older. Jin Woo happened to be the middle brother who had most of the responsibility of taking care of the youngest sister who was just two years younger than he was.
Jin Woo¡¯s parents first immigrated to the Americas in search of a better life and the ¡°American Dream¡± along with his oldest brother who just turned two. Due to the economic pressures and social upheavals of their motherland, they believed that America would provide refuge, peace, and a great environment for their children to grow up in. Apparently, this was not the case. Soon after the family had settled down in Los Angeles the Rodney King Riots (Los Angeles Riot) occurred, causing much damage to the newly established Korean American community. Sadly, the Seong family had lost a lot as Jin Woo¡¯s father¡¯s Auto body shop was looted and completely wrecked.
With their community in ruins and hopes trampled upon by the violence around them, the Seong family and their fellow countrymen began piecing their lives back together slowly but surely. By the time Jin Woo was born, his father had opened up a new auto shop and was able to provide for the family.
Jin Woo grew up surrounded by Korean culture and traditions, which imbued immense pride of being a Korean-American who grew up in the states (Note: Many Koreans are extremely proud of their heritage) Although he grew up in America, the fact that it was in Los Angeles made a whole lot of difference because the young boy had a chance to not only interact with other Koreans, but also with multiple ethnic groups that settled in the city of angels as well. While Jin Woo was exposed to both American and Korean pop culture at the same time, he preferred to follow the Korean side rather than becoming too sucked into the American pop culture. As a result, he does not have much experience with many of the famous American classics due to the limited exposure and interest.
Besides growing up surrounded by the vibrant culture of downtown Los Angeles, Jin Woo experienced a rather normal upbringing. However, the boy¡¯s ¡°childhood¡± was punctuated by conflicts within the family that affected much of his personal life and developed him into the person that he is today.
(These conflicts may be revealed later in roleplay)
Once Jin Woo¡¯s eldest brother turned eighteen, he left his three younger siblings to enter the military in Korea. Unfortunately, there was no way to avoid conscription unless the person had already become an American citizen. As a result, Jin Woo now became directly responsible for his youngest sister, Ye Jin. At the age of twelve, he had just lost his best friend and mentor and was forced to assume the same role for the younger sister who needed love and care the most.
As a result of his brother¡¯s departure Jin Woo had a difficult time getting through middle school. His grades were never ¡°satisfactory¡± and he had trouble avoiding conflicts with ¡°gangsters¡± around the school. Due to the problems associated with the Los Angeles riots, many Korean families were forced to stray away from the normal ¡°father works and mother takes care of the children¡± concept. Therefore, many of these middle schoolers ended up forming pseudo-gangs because they felt as if it was where they belonged. Since Jin Woo tended to be quiet around his Korean peers, he was shunned and often considered as anti-social and strange. Luckily, Jin Woo became close friends with several ¡°Non-Koreans¡± thus sparing him from total loneliness.
During this time, Jin Woo began to get more involved with extracurricular activities such as art, music, and martial arts. In order to keep his mind off of his problems at school and at home, Jin Woo was able to find these outlets and remain emotionally intact. He wrote simple poetry about life and relationships in which their main purpose was to uplift the spirits of those who read them. He believed that everyone must go through similar experiences at one point in their lives and did not want others to feel helpless whenever they were suffering. The least he could do is reassure them through ¡°works of art¡± that they were not alone and that someone out there is willing to care for and understand them.
Soon after Jin Woo graduated from middle school, his parents notified the family that they would be moving from their beloved home in Korea town to a place in the suburbs of San Francisco. As competition in the auto shop business became more difficult, the landowner of his father¡¯s shop demanded more money than the family could offer. Although bitter towards the landlord, the young boy did not mind the prospect of leaving the community he had lived in for the past fourteen years. Maybe change was actually a good thing for his development as well. Jin Woo would accept the change and the chance to possibly start over again in a new and different environment.
