Funny how life could be. You think you have a handle on things, and then suddenly life kicks you in the ass. At least, that's how Kate McHallin felt that morning. It was a Saturday, and normally she spent Saturday mornings sleeping in. No yoga classes, no shopping sprees, none of that. The blonde was always deep in sleep, slumbering in her large bed in her penthouse suite.
However, this morning, she had a different agenda all together. In fact she had been up very early that morning. You could call it barely sleeping, Kate called it thinking. A lot of things had happened that week. Things that could really change a girl's look on life.
She had woken up the two body guards whom had been there. Well, woken one up. The second was doing rounds as he was suppose to. It was Croaker and Swan today. The tall, bald, gruff guy, and the leaner handsome young man. The were standing side by side with her on the dock. It was early, with the sun barely peeking around to lighten the colors of the city. The blonde stood there, staring at the object in front of her.
One slender hand lifted, palm up and waiting. Swan, who was on her right, slid a baseball bat into the waiting palm. Things had happened this week, and two of them were majorly in her mind. Damien had tried to slander her a whore in front of the entire school, stating that he had ones loved her, but that she was pretty much just a slut, and therefore wasn't worthy anything. At least that's how it went in her mind. The second thing had been Adrian. Kate McHallin was dating once again. All in the same morning, within a short amount of time.
So as Kate stepped forward and hefted the bat, she had to think on a few things. Kate had loved Damien. She had truly, and honestly loved Damien Kross. Back when she was sour, and prim, he had won past that all and been treasured. She had treasured him beyond anything she had ever had. She had loved him, treasured him, and trusted him. A part of her had still loved him. Still cared. Still treasured.
Despite everything he had done. He had raped girls. He had lost his marbles, and raped girls. And said he still loved her, still cared about her. Made her want to laugh. Made her want to cry. She had hated him, hate him because he had tainted himself. Tainted their love. Tainted... all of it. She had gone out and slept with someone after that. Randomly, and without thinking about it or who it was. She blamed Damien for the way her life had turned out. All the pain, all the hurt... she blamed it all on him. Not for the choices she had made since then, but rather for leading her in the direction.
However, the turn of events being that Damien in a way had led her to Adrian. Kate liked Adrian, a lot. She wasn't ready to call it love, but she rather was attached to him. So maybe she could thank Damien for that at least.
But there was one major thing of her past that she needed to get rid of. Sitting before her was the one major thing that she held onto from before. Everything else was gone. There was only one thing left. Which was why when she swung the baseball bat you heard a huge shatter of glass. She had put all her weight behind the swing, right into the driver's side window. That's right, Damien Kross had given her her Mustang.
The sleek black thing hadn't been the most expensive thing she could buy, hell Kate hadn't even bought it. Instead Damien had for her sixteenth birthday, over a year before hand. A gift to his lady love. The only thing she had kept, and taken care of. Perfect care of. She had tried so hard to keep it perfectly clean. Just in mint condition really, despite people throwing her into the car frame and all. But that was over now. It was to be put behind her.
She smashed the side mirror off. Dented the hood. Smashed the headlights, doing as much damage as possible. She took her rage out on it. Destroy as much as possible into the thing as she broke out in a sweat. Soon her breath was labored, and her muscles sore. She had gone to town on the thing she use to love.
Everything it stood for really was dead. There was no more love in her heart for Damien Kross. Just hate for the man he had become, choosing instead to treasure the memories that they once had instead of hoping for... it to happen again. Damien was beyond saving. And she had Adrian. Adrian was a flirt and a tease, and all sorts of fun. He made her laugh, made her smile, made her... feel warm again.
So it was time to retire the beast and put it down for good. The car was in neutral, and so the three of them had no problem what so ever shoving it into the deep waters of the bay. She stood there, still standing between Swan and Croaker, staring at the blue depths.
The past was done, and it was time for the future. She called Adrian up and got his recording, the guy was still probably asleep.
"Hey Adrian, I was just thinking we could go out tonight."
Yeah. Life would be better from this point on, no matter what was happening. She was moving past it all and just getting on with life.
