It was a good day. Kate was relaxing on the Saturday afternoon, sitting on her couch with the windows open. A nice breeze blowing the see through white curtains and into the large room. She was propped up by several green and silver pillows, the large TV in front of her showing the game "Left4Dead". Yes, Kate was playing video games. In fact, she was in the process of killing humans as a "Smoker", which was in fact an undead with a very long tongue. Strangling Bill at the moment.
Kate had her legs propped up on the arm of the couch. She was wearing a pair of khaki shorts and a silver and white tank top. Just relaxing the day away... at least until there was a knock on her front door. Who was here? She wasn't expecting Adrian... or James... or any of the other guys she had recently entertained. In fact, the only two who knew where she lived was Adrian and James.
Captain moved to open the door, a huge pale guy in a suit.

A large man came and opened the door for me... Coolio... Kate had minions!
"Hi, is Kate McHallin home?" I asked the rather large fellow with a smile, tilting my shades down so he could see my eyes.
I had hopped that this was the right address. Otherwise my Mother's address book was horribly wrong and I was in the middle of nowhere with all my stuff in a U-haul... I looked around admiring the look of the grounds. Was this the right place?

Captain told the guy to wait at the door, then signaled another minion to go get Kate. The other guy working was Limper... who had a bit of a limp. Kate paused her game, got up and walked to the door. The man standing there wasn't Adrian or James... or anyone she really knew. Instead it was someone who looked... familiar somehow. Her emerald eyes locked onto him... this guy looked...
"Can I help you?"
Kate had no idea she had a cousin. In fact, her father had never told her that he had a sister. She knew nothing of his family at all, and his being her father's. Nothing of her mothers either. So she stepped forward a bit with Captain right beside her and Limper right behind.

Wow... This pretty girl is Kate. I should probably say something now.
"You must be Kate McHallin... I don't think we have ever met before... Um," I sighed. "This is awkward so I'll just get right to it. I'm your cousin Mortis Dauer. I guess my Mom is your Dad's sister." I said with a smile.
"You didn't by chance happen to get my letter in the mail did you? I sent it about two weeks ago."
Man if she didn't get that letter this would just go absolutely sour.
I thought to myself while keeping the smile on my face.

Both eyebrows lifted and looked straight at her bodyguards. They went through her mail for her normally, double checking for threats or things. So sometimes, if they felt like things weren't for her to see, she didn't get it. Kate trusted those eight men very well. Captain spoke up at this moment.
"There was a letter, but we thought it was a scam or something..."
Kate of course had realized by now why the male looked so familiar, they both had similar physical traits. Pale, blonde, good looking... his eyes were hazel green, while hers were emerald... but still the same.
"My father never said anything about his family. I was under the impression he didn't have any..." She trailed off for a second, before smiling just a bit. "Come on in Mortis. I have a feeling you have a story to tell me."
With that the bodyguards would move to the side and Kate would begin to walk down the hallway, leading the way.

"My father never said anything about his family. I was under the impression he didn't have any...Come on in Mortis. I have a feeling you have a story to tell me."
I smiled and removed my glasses at the same time.
"Dear cousin I have quite the story for you indeed." I bragged in a proud tone.
We Dauers' were a proud people, and it showed in everything we did. Kate seemed very interested in what I might have to say, and this was most pleasing.
As I followed her down the hall a thought popped into my head.
Guess I had the right address.

Kate walked down the hallway, and led the way to the rather large living room. The couch was white, and pristine. Glass and silver coffee table that matched the entertainment center. Huge plasma, lots of video game consoles, wispy curtains, lots of large expensive art. Things like that.
She turned the tv off quickly and sat down on the couch, which was huge. Grabbing a dark green cushion and placing it behind her back, getting settled. She then flashed Mort a smile, waving for him to get settled as well.
"If you want something to drink, the boys can get it for you."
Which was a clue of course, for her "boys" that she wanted something to drink as well. Preferably something with a bit of booze in it. They would take that and make some drinks as soon as Mort told them what he wanted, or if he wanted nothing.
"And I'm all ears."

"If you want something to drink, the boys can get it for you."
Kate assured me when I took a seat on the couch.
"Sure, a bottled water sounds just pristine." I smiled as I suggested my order to one of Kate's 'Boys'.
"And I'm all ears."
Peachy, she was ready for my story.
"Well, well, where should I begin...? I am your father's sister's son, your Aunt Victoria." I crossed my legs, making myself more comfortable. "So that makes us cousins! I don't know what else to say really." I chuckled as I attempted to keep a level head and not get nervous.
"It isn't everyday I show up at a new family member's house."

Well, that didn't explain why he was here. Just their relation. Captain walked off and brought back champange with a strawberry for Kate, and a bottle of water for Mortis. Kate sipped at her drink, in a crystal flute glass. She was high class alright, and relaxed with it. Those emerald eyes looked at him, still smiling.
"Do you have any brother or sisters? I'm an only child... just in case you were wondering."
Kate kept on sipping, not sure what to say. Or to do. The ball was pretty much in Mort's court. Limper had disappeared already, researching his name and family and stuff. The boys did that to most of her guests, being rather good at it.

Mort smiled when Kate asked a question.
"Do you have any brother or sisters? I'm an only child... just in case you were wondering."
"Isure do. A sister and two brothers. Anyway, I suppose it is only right that I tell you why I am here, given you didn't get my letter." I yawned, taking off my glasses and folding them up, I placed them into my pocket.
"I recently decided to take some classes over at the local school, Moral Crest I believe it is called. I was wondering if I could crash here with you. I'll pay you rent if that is an issue, I just figured why not get to know a family member and start over in a new place?"
I sighed.
"I realize this is quite a request to get from someone whom you have never met before."

So, that was why he was here. Apparently he had sent a letter, sometime ago. And Kate knew the last name of course. Kate knew everyone in the who's who of the rich world. Dauer wasn't a name you tossed around. It was then that Limper showed back up and gave her a thumbs up out of Mort's view. Kate smiled at Mort suddenly, almost brightly.
"Move right in Mort. I believe you, and you can pick your room too."
What was a thing like rent between family members? As long as he didn't throw wild parties without her and trash the place. If that started to happen, then some money would be needed. But that was if it ever came up. Kate was pretty much grinning though.
