Dom stepped out of his Audii R8 into the oddly sunny San Francisco day. He had spent the last twelve hours seated, between the ride to the airport in Rome, the flight over the Atlantic, and the drive to his new home.
"It's a little smaller than what I'm used to," Dom joked to himself.
It was true. It was a difference of enormous proportions from the home he had left behind in Italy. Being from a large estate with upwards of 80 people living there he of course was welcoming the solitude. His parents told him he might have to furnish the loft himself which he wasn't looking forward too, but at least he would get to choose.
His room was on the top floor, the twentieth one.
"Great! I have to carry all my crap up there. This will only take me all day," Dom growled to the sky.
Dom was in no mood to actually drag his stuff upstairs so he decided to go check out just how much shopping he was gonna have to do. He took the elevator to the top floor of the old style brick building. When the doors opened he realize quickly that he would need to do very little shopping and that he had the whole floor.
"Wow. Damn I have a skylight and access to the roof. Not bad, not bad.", said Dom as he entered the nearly fully furnished loft.
He noticed a glint out of the corner of his eye from behind a partition wall. He walked over to investigate and found the surprise his father had told him about.
"Holy shit that is a nice kitchen," exclaimed Dom as he took in the sight of the stainless steel appliances, gas range, new side by side refrigerator, and the many pots and pans hanging from a rack above a chef's island. It was exactly like the kitchen his mother taught him to cook in.
Everything else was really easy to find since the set up was entirely open. The only walled portions were the closet, water closet, and the kitchen. Everything else was wide open. He quickly realized that the only thing he didn't have was a television. He didn't mind shopping for a television that would be fun.
"I should probably check out the roof," he said as he took the iron spiral staircase to the roof.
He could see the ocean and most of the city from the roof. There were a couple of old folding chairs and a planter with hundreds of dead flowers.
"Well mom would kill me if I let a good planter go to waste, gonna have to get some seeds and some new soil for that," Dom said as he looked at the sad little flowers in the planter.
He also quickly noticed the large family of pigeons on the roof top.
"Fuck there are a lot of pigeons here!", he said in Eddie Izzard-esque voice. Well he thought to himself here I am in the New World, the world my grandfathers only dreamed off. He looked out and it came to him why his fore fathers had dreamed of this place.
"It really is beautiful", Dom said to himself and headed back downstairs to his car.
