"Gwendolyn, but you can call me Gwyn. Is it alright if my brother comes too? We're twins, you see."
"Oh, definitely!" Elmira nodded enthusiastically without hesitation.
"He goes to this school, too, right? I mean, you could bring him anyway. I don't care. You can bring whoever you want- siblings, friends, whatever. Well, besides like middle schoolers and what-not. But you said he's your twin, yeah? So, sure, that's totally fine."
She held back a wide smile. More people equaled more fun, and her numbers were increasing fairly quickly. "And since I've been asking people, if you have any preference in drinks, or even music, let me know and I'll see if I can arrange for it."

Nick just watched the two girls talk. Both were preppy, but at two different ends of the spectrum. He liked it, and thought it would definitely make some great entertainment.
Elmira then said something that caught his attention...
And since I've been asking people, if you have any preference in drinks, or even music, let me know and I'll see if I can arrange for it.
Preferences in music, eh?
Well for music, as long as its got a nice beat to it, ey Elmira? he said to her.
Nick then remembered she knew nothing of his love for intense rhythm and thought it may come off as a love for intense parties instead...

"Well for music, as long as its got a nice beat to it, ey Elmira?"
Elmira nodded, as if she completely understood and agreed. "Definitely. I want people to dance their asses off, 'cause I know I will. But I also want a decent mix. You know, since some people are really into music that's not designed for dancing. Not to say it's bad music. You get the idea." She reclosed the binder with all of the fliers. "I'm still looking for somebody to act as my DJ, though. I need some one who knows how to work a good mix and not break the nice stereo that's going to be there. I should take an ad out in the school paper or something. I don't want to hire a professional; I just want a person willing to take the responsibility of putting out songs."

Nick metaphorically drooled at the mention of a nice stereo. He knew how to DJ, but didn't know if he wanted to offer his services for two reasons: 1) He didn't really know this girl that well yet, and 2) he wanted to party. Nick needed to answer safely.
"If you don't find anyone, I guess I could DJ for you. I'd rather party, you know, but if you definitely can't find someone, I've DJ'd before; notice my get-up?" he replied pointing to his DJ style headphones.

"If you don't find anyone, I guess I could DJ for you. I'd rather party, you know, but if you definitely can't find someone, I've DJ'd before; notice my get-up?"
Elmira's eyes shifted back and forth suspiciously, though she did this on purpose in a joking manner. "No, of course not. I didn't specifically mention the need for a DJ because you happen to look like you would be a good DJ. That would be manipulative, and I would NEVER want to manipulate people for the sake of a kick ass party." Again her gaze swept away nervously in random directions. "I'm kidding. Really, I'm sure I can find somebody more willing to DJ. Some people actually like that kind of thing, just standing around and putting on tunes. If you're showing up at my party, you're going to have fun, and if that's dancing and socializing and drinking it up, then that's exactly what you're going to do, good Sir Nicholas."

For an odd reason Nick didn't think she was joking. And he was one of those people who did like standing, putting on different music. Obviously Elmira didn't understand the complexity that separates a poor DJ from an exceptional one. It was more than just switching tunes.
"Thanks, Elmira, but seriously don't hesitate to ask if need be. I wouldn't want your party to be ruined just because there was no one to choose the songs." he said half-sarcastically.
Oh well, as long as I get to go to the party. Maybe even dance with her. Or some other good looking girl...

"Thanks, Elmira, but seriously don't hesitate to ask if need be. I wouldn't want your party to be ruined just because there was no one to choose the songs."
"Oh, please!" Elmira retorted, as if the comment was ridiculous. "I wouldn't let a thing like that ruin my party! I mean, I've actually printed out fliers for this thing, typing it up and making nice fonts and such. I don't even type up my own homework." She laughed a bit at her own joke, if it could be considered such, since it was actually a true statement.
"The thing is that I had said that I didn't want to hire a DJ," she began to explain, "since that seemed to be going a bit overboard, and this guy who had been really doing me a ton of favors and totally helping me out enough made a compromise with me saying I'd get a nice stereo for the music as long as I could find somebody willing to DJ. And really, that somebody could be anybody."

Sam timidly opened the classroom door and peeked her head in, hoping the teacher wasn’t going to yell at her for being late. But much to her surprise, there was no teacher in the room – nothing but chitchatting students.
How odd…
Sam slipped into the room and found a seat in the second row behind a strawberry blonde who was talking to a guy in a black hoodie about DJs. She remembered seeing the neon yellow fliers that said something about a party happening this Friday, and wondered if this could be her. Sam had been thinking about checking it out; otherwise she’d probably end up at home by herself watching movies or doing homework. She wasn’t much of a drinker, but she enjoyed dancing, certainly, and watching other people get smashed usually amused her pretty well.
And maybe James’ll be there… Stop that, she thought. You haven't made much of an effort to meet anyone else BESIDES him so far. And you barely know him yet.
Yet…
Coming back to Earth, she tapped the girl lightly on the shoulder. “Excuse me… Are you the one who’s been posting all those party fliers around school?”

“Excuse me… Are you the one who’s been posting all those party fliers around school?”
Elmira raised her eyebrows, surprised that anyone would know who she was yet, besides those she already met. After all, she was pretty new to the school, and there wasn't a photograph of herself to accompany the phone number and address she put on the fliers. A good guess, maybe? she thought. Or perhaps she heard the past few sentences of the conversation. Still, nobody truly knew Elmira yet. Yet. That was key. If this party was as successful as she hoped it to be, almost everyone would remember her and recognize her name, perhaps as 'that girl who threw that wild party,' or even maybe, 'that hot girl who could dance like crazy.' The latter wasn't likely. 'Hot girl' was not a label she was used to especially in her own mind, with her hate of her freckles, flat chest, and domineering height.
"Yup, that's me!" Elmira replied proudly. Oh, maybe she saw me pinning them up in the halls or something. Hm. "I take it you're interested?"

"I was thinking about it. I don’t have any plans at this point. I'm not much of a drinker, but I like to have a good time, and it sounds like it's gonna be a good time."
She was exaggerating a little bit. She hadn’t really been planning on going, but she realized the words that came out of her mouth were true – she didn’t have any plans for that night, so why not go? Maybe she could make some new friends. Friends were a nice thing to have. And since she’d only met two people so far since she’d gotten here, she thought maybe it could be good for her.
"I heard you talking about DJs just now, that's why I asked. I didn’t get a chance to pick up one of the fliers, though, would you happen to have any more?”

"I was thinking about it. I don’t have any plans at this point. I'm not much of a drinker, but I like to have a good time, and it sounds like it's gonna be a good time."
"Not much of a drinker..." Elmira repeated, as if the idea was foreign to her. Translation: buzz kill. And if that wasn't enough, the girl happened to be pretty. In fact, she looked like she had the body of a dancer, and Elmira had some animosity toward dancers. They were possibly the reason she developed her current state of constant self consciousness about her image; ballet lessons in leave-nothing-to-the-imagination leotards and tights in years past were scarring as other girls grew in chest size while Elmira only grew in height. And of course, dancing on her tiptoes only made her feel like more of a giant. But that was ages ago- she had developed interest in other hobbies since then.
She couldn't be mean to this person yet. After all, she had given a fairly friendly response, caught up in the excitement of her party planning, and she did not want to start fights with anyone until she had her good time on Friday night. She had been so well behaved thus far, excluding a bit of a brawl she initiated at the sports tryouts. That was different. We were supposed to pick fights. And to this person's credit, she, like Gwendolyn, was not the typical ultra-feminine, high maintenance princess type of 'pretty' that Elmira usually directed her enmity toward, though then again, neither was the chick she called out at that incident in the gym.
"I heard you talking about DJs just now, that's why I asked. I didn’t get a chance to pick up one of the fliers, though, would you happen to have any more?”
"Hun, I'm swamped in fliers. I could quilt a blanket out of these things, and then some." She opened her binder to pull out yet another bright yellow flier from the pouch along the side. "My name's Elmira. If you got any questions or anything, my cell is on here. You got any suggestions for drinks or music?" She quirked an eyebrow. "Oh wait, you don't drink. Duh. But I'm sure you've got a taste for music." With a brush of her hand to sweep back a few locks that had fallen across her face as she leaned down, she continued, "Man, I'm rude. What's your name?"

Nick watched this awkward scene from behind Elmira's tall stature. This new girl gave Elmira some competition, and at this thought, Nick decided to watch events unfold.
Elmira seemed to put on a happy, cheerful facade towards the new girl, but Nick could see that she was just testing her as possible rivalry. The other girl, however, seemed to be the innocent type who was clueless.
Nick could see that throughout the conversation, Elmira was getting increasingly hot-headed inside, even though see seemed calm and collective on the outside. This was just what Nick thought because he was good at reading people.
"Man, I'm rude. What's your name?"
At this, Nick became interested in this vital piece of information, and quickly poked his head out from behind Elmira, as well as to get a proper look at the newcomer.

Sam held up a finger in correction. "I didn't say I never drink, I said I’m not much of a drinker. There’s a difference.” She chewed her lip for a moment, figuring out how to say it. “Let’s put it this way – I drink to taste, but not so much that I couldn’t drive home safely if I wanted to.” Again, a bit of exaggeration – Sam rarely ever drank. But it seemed to be what this girl wanted to hear, so she gave it to her. “I like the fruity flavored stuff, for the most part. Anything with 'green apple' in the name would suit me fine. As for music, as long as I can dance to it, I’m all set. My only complaint would be an over-excessive amount of rap – it gives me a headache.”
She thought she could sense a slight animosity coming from the girl, but she couldn’t find a reason for it, and summed it up to imagination. “Nah, you’re not rude.” She smiled as she took the yellow flier from the girl’s hands. “I’ve had forty minute conversations with people before I remembered to ask their name. I’m Sam. And you are?” She directed her question both to the party girl and the boy with the headphones who was discussing DJs.

"Oh, and I forgot," Elmira continued talking to the girl. "Wow, I'm so totally off today. You must think I'm a bitch. Sorry 'bout that."
She waved toward Nicholas and Gwendolyn. "This is Gwendolyn," she announced out loud, motioning toward the chick with the unique extensions, "and this is Sir Nicholas." She then pointed to the guy she had just met with the large headphones.
"He may or may not be our DJ. Probably not, actually. He's our emergency DJ. And he's British, so maybe he's got like, cool European taste or something."

"...and this is Sir Nicolas."
At this Nick's face drooped.
"It's really Nicolas or Nick if you want, but she insists she calls me 'Sir'." he said to Sam, and saying 'Sir' sarcastically.
"He may or may not be our DJ. Probably not, actually. He's our emergency DJ. And he's British, so maybe he's got like, cool European taste or something."
Nick's face drooped even further down. He turned to Elmira.
"Elmira, just because I'm European doesn't mean I only like European music. I happen to love American music, its what I listen to mostly."
Nick now was in the position to look at Sam, the newbie to the conversation. She was his height, but seemed taller due to her slender figure. If he wasn't mistaken, which he usually wasn't in these cases, she had the body of a dancer.
And by the look of it, she's a pretty good dancer, too...
