Livin On A Prayer (Open to 2)

[Kate]

Kate hadn't done this in ages. Seriously, she had been a freshman the last time she had done this... Kate had been a freshman. She was dressed in simple clothing, her bright green jacket discarded on a chair nearby. She wore a white and light blue tank top, and a simple pair of jeans. The normal high heels on her feet, acid green in color.

In her hands and strapped to her person? A bass, black and silver in color, standard bass. Plugged in, amped up and ready. There was a microphone in front of her, on a mic stand. She took a deep breath, and tried a few chords. Strumming, and noting that she had lost the rough spots on her fingers from the strings. Maybe they would come back, if she kept it up...

Then Kate began to strum the opening bass part of Bon Jovi's Livin On A Prayer. She messed up once, rusty from being out of practice. She stopped, and restarted. The door was shut in the music classroom, but anyone walking by could hear it. The wonderful bass filled opening of Livin On A Prayer.

Nick was walking down the arts building hallway towards the music room. He needed to check out how well the music program was funded as he had heard rumours that money was indeed put into the program.
As he approached the room, he felt the ground beneath him quake a bit. Someone was playing the bass. Nick stopped for a second, feeling the rhythm coarse through his body.

Hmm, E-A-B-G-E-E-B-G...

Nick recited the tempo and progression in his memory, trying to find the name of the particular song within his mind.

Ah, ha! Got it!

He now had an excuse to browse the music room and even stark up conversation with a fellow musician. Nick continued to the room the sound was coming from and opened the door.

It was pretty large inside, different instruments propped up against every wall. There was the instrumentalist, a girl, blonde as could be with bright green eyes playing an exquisite looking bass guitar.

Hey there! Is that Livin' on a Prayer by Bon Jovi? he yelled in his sharp accent.

[Ryuu]

Worn down black Converse shoes slapped against the hallway floor, as Ryuu walked through the hallway, a guitar case slung over his shoulder, his Fender Telecaster inside it, as he made his way towards the music room. He needed a quiet place to play his guitar, and what better place to play, than in the music room? He continued down the hallway, his footsteps making dull thumps against the floor. As he reached the door to the music room, he heard music playing from inside. Music? Ryuu stopped and stared at the door, the tune of the music sounded familiar to Ryuu, but he couldn't remember where or when it sounded familiar. Seeing no one around, Ryuu quietly slipped into the music room, closing the door behind him, managing to hear a small part of someone's sentence. "... on a Prayer by Bon Jovi?"

Ah, now I recognized the sound, it was Livin' on a Prayer by Bon Jovi.

He saw two people were in the music room, the guy who had yelled out the question in a sharp accent, and a girl with blond hair, who had been the one playing the song, as he stayed standing near the door, waiting until the girl was finished playing. "Nicely played," Ryuu said in a low voice that could still be heard clearly, as he began to applaud once she finished, not mockingly, he was quite serious, as he walked away from the door and into the room and sat down in a chair nearby and placed his guitar case down on the ground, "Bon Jovi is always a good choice to play." He wore a black jean jacket, a black graphic t-shirt, black jeans, and his worn down black Converse shoes. The music room was large, with many different instruments propped up against all the walls. "Know any other songs?" he asked, as he looked at the girl with a look of polite curiosity.

[Kate]

She was just at the end part of the starting bass when the two boys came in. Those green eyes were a bit startled, but those full lips twisted into a smile. An audience then? The pale woman leaned into the mic and sang the first opening line. Her voice was a soft soprano, a bit rusty and maybe a tad off key here and there, but decently good. Considering she was playing the bass at the same time still.

But she stopped and smiled sweetly to the two boys, one eyebrow arching.

"Yeah, it's Bon Jovi. And yeah, I know a lot of songs... Even written a few myself, back in the day."

Back in the day being back at 552, when she had been in a band with people. When she had belonged to Kissing Under Killer Karnage with the girls. Kate walked to the amp, and shut it off with her heel, before unplugging the bass from it and beginning to walk down to where they were.

"Was I playing too loudly? Sorry..."

[Nicolas Constantine]

"Oh, not at all! Your 'loud' music is what made me come in here in the first place." Nick said with a joking manner.

He looked from the girl to the boy with an inquisitive glace.

"Hmm... Well I'm Nick, if you two were wondering. I came in here not only because I heard you playing, but because I wanted to check the music room out. You see, I'm a musician as well." he said with a wide, enthusiastic smile.

[Ryuu]

Ryuu, as soon as he entered into the music room, saw the girl's eyes look a bit startled, but a smirk appeared on her face. He stood right at the door, watching, as he saw the girl lean into the mic and begin to sing the first line of the song, her voice was rather good, if Ryuu had to hazard a guess, she sounded like a soprano, but he wasn't really sure. He knew this much though, she was a good singer, considering she was playing bass at the same time. He then saw her stop, and smile sweetly at both him and the other guy, as Ryuu made his way over and sat down. "Yeah, it's Bon Jovi. And yeah, I know a lot of songs... Even written a few myself, back in the day." "Impressive..." Ryuu said in a soft voice, folding his arms across his chest. He saw the girl walk over to the amp and shut it off with her heel, before unplugging the bass and walked down to the area the both of them were at.

"Was I playing too loudly? Sorry..." Ryuu shook his head, he did not mind the loud music, if anything, he had been curious as to who it was that had been playing. "Oh, not at all! Your 'loud' music is what made me come in here in the first place." "I concur," Ryuu said, nodding his head slightly in agreement, "The music was what led me here, and even if it hadn't, I was planning on coming to the music room regardless, to find a place to play my guitar." Ryuu saw the other guy look from the girl over to him, as he looked back with a calm look on his face. "Hmm... Well I'm Nick, if you two were wondering. I came in here not only because I heard you playing, but because I wanted to check the music room out. You see, I'm a musician as well." "Nice to meet you Nick, I am Ryuu Hikari," Ryuu replied, giving him a polite nod in response to Nick's wide, enthusiastic grin, "I am a musician as well, I am a guitar player."

With that said, Ryuu bent down and opened his guitar case, and pulled out his Fender Highway 1 Telecaster, and slung the guitar strap over his shoulder, and rested the guitar on his thigh, adjusting the guitar a bit, before starting to play a song, as he began to sang the lyrics.

"Hey there Delilah, what's it like in New York City? I'm a thousand miles away, but girl, tonight you look so pretty, yes you do..."

"Nice to meet you Nick, I am Ryuu Hikari, I am a musician as well, I am a guitar player."

Nick acknowledged Ryuu's nod with one of his own. Ryuu then took out a Fender that was as nice as the girl's bass and started to play and sing to show his talent.

Hmm... A guitar player and a bass player who can both sing... This just got really interesting...

Nick's grin touched ear to ear as he swung his backpack off his back, opened one of the larger compartments, and pulled out two medium Ludwig drumsticks. He looked around the room and saw a drum kit in the corner behind the girl. He flung his backpack to the side and ran around to sit on the drum stool.

The drum kit was actually pretty nice. A classic 5 piece set, with a hi-hat, ride and crash, but surprisingly with an extended double kick. Nick looked up at the other two after getting comfortable on the stool.

[Kate]

One of Kate's eyebrows cocked. Why? Because they all were musical inclined? They introduced themselves, one after another. So Kate thought it'd be best to do the same. So she spoke up after she cleared her throat.

"Kate McHallin."

And then the second boy who had shown up, Ryuu pulled his guitar out and began to play a decently popular song that many people knew about. Kate smiled, and went back to the amp. She plugged back in, turned it back on, and turned it down a bit. Strumming chords where she should in response to his playing, joining in.

Hell, Kate even sang with him. Joining her soft, sweet voice with his. What hadn't this girl done in her life time? Really? And she was only seventeen. Funny that. When the song was done, she smiled at Ryuu, then looked at Nick, who was sitting at a drum set.

Apparently, they had a little mini-band going. Funny that.

[Ryuu]

Ryuu saw the girl cock one of her eyebrows, and then spoke up after clearing her throat. "Kate McHallin." Ryuu gave her a nod of acknowledgment, as he saw Nick acknowledge the nod he gave him with one of his own. Ryuu then bent down and pulled out his Fender from his guitar case, and began to play and sing Hey There Delilah by Plain White T's. As he sang, he saw Nick grin from ear to ear, as he swung his backpack off his back and open one of the large compartments, and pulled out two medium sized drumsticks. He then saw him look around, looking for something, and then got up, flinging his bag to the side, and ran over to a drum set located behind Kate, who had walked over to the amp, plugged it in, turned it back on, and turned it down at bit, before he heard her strum chords in response to his playing, joining in with him.

He heard her sing along with him, her sweet voice mixing with his own calm but gentle voice, making a nice melody. So that's what Nick had been looking for, a drum set. He saw Nick sit down on the stool behind the drum set, looking up at them a few minutes later, as Ryuu continued to play the song, finishing it off a couple minutes later. He gently strummed the last few chords, letting the sound resonate, as he saw Kate smile at him, and then over at Nick, it looked like they had a little band going on. "Got any other song in mind?" he asked the two of them, he had one particular song in mind to play, but he wanted to hear what the two of them wanted to play. "I have one, but I'll let you guys pick this time."

"Got any other song in mind? I have one, but I'll let you guys pick this time."

Nick didn't mind at all. He just wanted to play with Ryuu and Kate and show just how good he was at the drums after have been playing for 12 years. He had gotten comfortable and adjusted to the drum set as Ryuu and Kate had finished up their song. Nick took off his hoodie and headphones, and got in a position to be ready to jam.

"Oh, I don't have any particular choice, I'll basically play whatever you two choose. I guess more preferably rock or metal as those are my specialties." he said with a slightly embarrassed smile.

[Kate]

"How about something rather...heavy on the drums then?"

Kate grinned, flexing her fingers for a moment. This was a rather random set up, this mini-band of theirs. The blonde kept on grinning and began to strum a tune out. It was a pretty popular song, a VERY popular song if you listened to certain radio stations.

What song was it? Well, if you had to ask, it was Maps by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. She had a bit high of a voice for it, but she still began to sing while they were playing. It was simple really, Kate loved to play with other people. In a band, not only with their minds. She was really enjoying this too.

After they were done with that Kate would just smile at the two of them.

"Anything else boys? I think we're all pretty good here, so try throwing something hard my way, eh?"

[Ryuu]

Ryuu saw Nick take off his hoodie and headphones, getting into a position ready to play, as Ryuu adjusted the position of his guitar so it would be more comfortable for him. "Oh,I don't have any particular choice, I'll basically play whatever you two choose. I guess more preferably rock or metal as those are my specialties." Ryuu nodded his head as he saw the embarrassed smile on Nick's face. "How about something rather...heavy on the drums then?" Ryuu saw Kate grin and flex her fingers for a minute, as he heard her begin to strum a tune out. After listening to it for a few seconds, Ryuu recognized the song, it was Maps by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Ryuu added in his guitar part, as he heard Kate begin to sing, she had a rather high voice for it, but all the same, she was good. Once they were done playing, Ryuu saw Kate smile at the two of them.

"Anything else boys? I think we're all pretty good here, so try throwing something hard my way, eh?"

"I got one," Ryuu injected, grinning slightly, as he tuned his guitar up. "Let's see if the both of you can handle it." He then began playing a song by The Who, letting his fingers sliding up and down the strings as he played, this song was pretty fast-paced, but nonetheless, an awesome song to play. Long though, but hey, who was really keeping track of the time right now? Ryuu then began to sing the lyrics as he played in time with his guitar.

"We'll be fighting in the streets, with our children at our feet. And the morals that they worship will be gone, and the men who spurred us on..."

Kate started playing Maps, which Nick knew on drums quite well, as it was a pretty popular drum song. For Nick, it was a great warm up, due to the song having a lot of crash, tom, and kick.

"Anything else boys? I think we're all pretty good here, so try throwing something hard my way, eh?"

"I got one, let's see if the both of you can handle it."

Nick knew the song right away, as The Who were one of his favourite bands and Won't Get Fooled Again was one of his favourite songs. Yes, the drum part was difficult, but with a double kick on his side, Nick was able to add as much kick as Keith Moon. He especially liked this song because it was all over the drum kit, and it had a drum solo.

[Kate]

This one was a little bit harder for Kate, as she didn't know it as well. The blonde moved her fingers and strummed where she was suppose to be. The pale woman stopped after the song. The girl stood up and clicked the amp back off with her heel. She seemed almost apologetic. She pulled the bass off and set it on a stand.

"I'm sorry guys, it's been a few years since I've played. I'm going to have to take a break. "

She sat down on the steps and smiled at them. Generally enjoying the rather random they seemed to be having. The girl tossed some blonde locks over her shoulder, and looked at one and then other.

"You guys can keep going if you want. I can sing with you, my hands are just starting to get tired is all."

[Ryuu]

As soon as they finished the song, Ryuu saw Kate stand up and click the amp off with her heel, seeming almost apologetic, as she pulled the bass off and placed it on a stand. "I'm sorry guys, it's been a few years since I've played. I'm going to have to take a break." Ryuu waved his hand casually, as he stayed sitting in the chair. "Don't worry about it, playing guitar or bass, or even drums, isn't exactly easy." He saw her sit down on the steps and smile at them, as Ryuu took the time to re-tune his guitar back to normal. He was enjoying the random jam session the three of them were having, he hadn't played with anyone before, not even in a band, so this was a pretty new experience for him. As he finished fine-tuning his guitar, he saw Kate toss some of her blond hair over her shoulder, and then looked over at the two of them, one, and then the other.

"You guys can keep going if you want. I can sing with you, my hands are just starting to get tired is all."

"Alright, I got a song, and you can just sing, no bass playing." Ryuu said to Kate, as he stood up, and walked over to Nick, and whispered in his ear, telling him what song to play. "Hey, if you know the song, That's What You Get by Paramore, that's what we'll play, that fine with you?" He asked, as he then straightened up, and walked back to the chair he had been sitting on, and sat back down. If Nick did know the song, once he started playing, Ryuu would join in immediately with him, playing the intro part to the song, and all Kate would have to do is sing, they would take care of the instrumental part, and Ryuu would even join in singing with her, at the parts where he saw Josh Farro sing with Hayley Williams in the music video.
