It was a beautiful Spring day, a nice Saturday afternoon. Mathew was sitting in Golden Gate Park, still without his trademark Earth Dragon Coat. His eyes were closed, a content sigh escaped his lips as he felt a small breeze play across his face. Things have been going well for him lately. He felt like he was making real strides in bettering himself. He felt good, hell he even had people smiling and waving at him sometimes when he walked by. It was.... interesting to say the least. It would certainly take some getting used to, but that was fine. For the first time in a long time he felt happy, happy with who he was, what he was doing, and how people felt about him.
That feeling did make him feel a bit queasy though, he wasn't used to it. He didn't really know how to deal with it. His whole life he had been hated, feared, scorned. Even by his parents, so this really was all new to him. But, he was trying.
As if his new found inner peace was reflected around him, instead of the bubble of fear that normally seemed to be around him, there was one of tranquility. Even the animals seemed to pick up on it, birds perched on the bench next to him, a small squirrel by his feet munching on some kind of nut or something. It was a little awkward for Mathew, and so he tried to sit as still as he could, mostly because this was one of the most epic things to have happened to him in a long time and he didn't wanna ruin it.

Matrim was walking through his territory. He hadn't really been there since, well... since a lot of things happened. But he was there again. He had claimed Golden Gate Park in a way, performing certain acts, and fighting a lot here. So seeing Mathew here was kind of strange, though he wasn't about to fight the guy for the place. It wasn't like he could beat him in his current state. Then again, he wasn't wearing any of his special items.
Matrim approached him slowly since there was no need to be hasty. Matrim took a good look at him and said, "So Earth Dragon. I've got to ask, what's with the new fashion statement? I never did get the whole scoop on VULNERABILITY by Mathew."
He said it in a little bit of a mocking tone, since the gear he had protected him. Since not wearing literally any of it, not even the trench coat, it seemed that either he felt he didn't need it, or maybe there was something behind all of that, "And what's with the Disney princess look? I didn't peg you as the type who enjoyed spending his time with the cute critters of Golden Gate Park."

Mathew's head moved suddenly after being disturbed. The sudden movement causing the animals to scurry away, their flight or fight instincts kicking in. That caused a small frown to form on his face, I mean how often did shit like that happen!? Almost never! As if that wasn't enough it seemed like something had crawled up Matrim's ass if he thought that Mathew was vulnerable now because he wasn't wearing a jacket. How idiotic could one person be? Sure it was technically true that he wasn't as his full game without it, but the clothes did not make the man.
"The removal of the coat is symbolic. A physical change to match the inner change I am trying to do. Under the title of Dragon I have done a lot of things I am not proud of. By not wearing the coat I am reaffirming in my own mind that I can choose to be different. If someone thinks I am vulnerable and weak because I am not wearing a piece of clothing, then they are foolish."
His tone was cold, the way his eyes narrowed made it clear he thought that Matrim was being foolish. He was far from vulnerable, he was willing to bet he was still one of the strongest people around, if not the strongest without the coat. In a way it just evened the playing field a bit.

By not wearing the coat I am reaffirming in my own mind that I can choose to be different. "Easy, easy," Matrim said, putting his hands up in defense, "Don't get me wrong I know for a fact you can throw down without some protective coat. I just only recently saw you walking about without it and wanted to know the sitch."
Changing who he is... things he's not proud of...
"Yeah Leon told me you weren't exactly the nice guy. I believe his words were...." Matrim had a really good photographic memory for things like this, and doing his best Leon impression he said, "'He is brutal and has no care for whatever limitations regular people have. There is no room for honor when fighting him. You either do everything to win, or he will.' Personally I took that as a warning, and it's part of the reason I showed some interest in you. Seemed like you'd be a good fighter what with all talking up of dragons Leon was always doing...."
Matrim took a seat next to Mathew, "So, you're changing that? What exactly does that all mean?" Matrim was asking because part of the reason he showed interest in joining Mathew was so he could find a way to take him out if he ever became a threat. Work from the inside, but if what Mathew said was true... well then hell, job done. No more threat and Matrim could go about his business. Of course, he wasn't so sure about Linda or Jester either. Matrim was still blind to what kind of people they were.
Come to think of it... I myself haven't seen Mathew do anything wrong. He broke my arms, but big whoop it was a fight. I wouldn't have had him fight any other way.
