The Spoils of War (Sara)

[Nicolas Constantine]

Nick smiled at the question, even though he was busy focusing his sight on driving and he couldn't look at Sara this moment.

"I thought dinner was excellent. It was a great place to go, and I'd go again."

That part of the question was simple as he was just reviewing the meal he had, not the company he was with while he ate the meal. He thought a second on how to word the next part.

"I'm having the most marvelous time I've had in a really long time. So, thanks Sara."

This time he looked over to her and smiled lightly to show that he really meant it. But what he was more curious about was if she was having a good time.

"And what about you? I'd like to know how I rank."

Sara giggled at the world marvelous. Nick was so cute~<3 She didn't think she had ever heard the word used in an unsarcastic way before, but his smile told her that he meant it in a nice way. And that was nice. She was glad that he was enjoying himself, because she honestly felt at though she hadn't been the best company so far tonight.

"And what about you? I'd like to know how I rank."

She took a minute to think about it, looking away from him to her hands as she tried to sort her thoughts. Somewhere in her boggled mind she knew she wanted to tell him the truth. The honest truth. So she took a deep breath trying to work through the cloud in her mind long enough to give him a good answer.

"Well... Despite my little breakdown at the restaurant... Which I'm sorry about by the way.... I'm having a really good time. The best time I've had since..." She paused. "In a while." She had been about to say since Travis left, but she didn't want to go there. It was still to fresh. But she was having a good time. And it wasn't just the relapse. Nick was a genuinely nice guy, and she enjoyed being around him... Especially when she was drunk.

Sara hadn't forgiven herself for nearly breaking down in the restaurant yet. Nick sighed when she said that, because to him, it was already water under the bridge. He was good at forgiving, mostly because he liked to live in the present and not dwell in the past.

"It's quite alright, really. And I'm glad it was me who could give you the best time in a while."

He turned to her briefly and smiled.

"Remember, the nights not over."

Yes, Nick was thinking of cuddling and buttered popcorn. He enjoyed both immensely, and Sara seemed like she'd be one to enjoy them, too.

They had arrived at Sara's house now, and Nick would park, get out of the car, help Sara out, and walk with her towards her home. He would also leave his sport coat in his car as well.

"Remember, the nights not over."

No, the wasn't over. Not by a long shot XD Sara had more alcohol inside! ... But she wasn't going to drink it... Much of it... And the popcorn! As they pulled up to the house, Sara was smiling and practically wiggling in her seat. She couldn't wait to get out of this dress.

She would have gotten out of the car, but she knew Nick would want to help her out, so she waited, fidgeting in her seat, until he opened the door. Then she stepped out and took his hand, leading him to the door.

Once at the door, she pulled out a set of keys and put it into the lock. The sound of scratching at the door came suddenly and she smiled, cooing to George inside as she pushed open the door. "Hope you don't mind dogs."

The door opened and her small pug wound his way through her feet, jumping at her legs, tongue hanging out of his mouth. She ignored him and walked inside, so he began jumping at Nick <3 "Isn't he sweet??"

Sara tripped slightly as she tried to pull her shoes off, and then left them in the middle of the hall. "Make yourself at home. Do you mind if I get changed?" But she was already off, down the hall towards her room. Across from the hall to her room, to the right, was the kitchen, and further straight ahead was a large living room with a mini bar, a few couches, and a big screen tv. Sara had money. Plenty of it. It was kind of obvious.

"Hope you don't mind dogs."

Sara warned Nick as they got to the door and she unlocked it, sending a little pug flying at them.

"I love dogs, he's cute."

He liked pugs, and this one was tiny and cute and hyper. Nick bent down to pet him before following Sara inside.

"Isn't he sweet??"[/i]

The dog wouldn't leave him alone, but he was used to it as most people's dogs took a liking to Nick.

"Yeah, definitely. But not as sweet as you."

The line was a tad cheesy and cliche, but it was from the heart and that's what mattered. He looked up from petting the dog and smiled at her before she headed off to change. He wouldn't mind changing as well, but he had nothing to change into. He was wearing an undershirt, so maybe Sara wouldn't mind if he took off his dress shirt.

"No I don't mind." he said after her.

Sara pushed open the door to her room, and then, as a second thought, stuck her head back out. "Help yourself to anything, 'kay?"

Then she stumbled further into her room, slamming the door closed behind her. She was a little drunker then she thought, but nothing she couldn't handle. Her thoughts went briefly to what it was going to be like in the morning, but she decided she didn't even want to think about that.

Going to her dresser she stripped off her dress, letting it fall to the floor at her feet. Pulling out her favorite pink pajama pants and a white t-shirt, she changed quickly, pulling on the clothes and nearly falling over. She came out of her room giggling, and walked down the hall into the kitchen. "So what do you think of my place?"

Nick helped himself to a soda that was in her fridge.

"It's nice! Much better than my place out here, but you'd be the one who would be impressed with the place I had back in England."

Her place was really nice and modern, but Nick's previous house back home was something else. He looked at what she had changed into and smiled widely. She looked extremely cute right now with her baggy sleep clothes on. But Nick was still a tad uncomfortable with what he had on.

"Would you mind if I took my dress shirt off? It's kind of bothering me now that you look comfortable. I have a undershirt underneath..."

If she didn't mind he could take off the white dress shirt to reveal one of the undershirts he wore that hugged his figure.

"So where are we watching the movie?"

Sara passed Nick and opened the fridge, pulling out a soda for herself. "I'm glad you like it. I chose it after the earthquake. Thought it was a great place. And ya, feel free to change." She laughed as she popped open the can of pop and took a big gulp, her eyes taking him in. Nope. She didn't mind.

She made her way into the living room and plopped down in the center of the couch. "Well watch it out here, on my BIG tv." She winked and laughed. She leaned forward and pulled a disk case from under the coffee table, and unzipped it. "These are the movies I have. I don't know what you want to watch... OH! Popcorn! Take a look at the DVD's 'kay?"

She dropped the case on the couch and ran back into the kitchen, pulling out a bag of popcorn and popping it into the microwave. "So tell me about England" she called out to him as she waited for the popcorn to finish.

Nick didn't know anything about an earthquake, so he just let it slide by. He didn't think she would have a problem with him wanting to change, either, so he took of his dress shirt to reveal a undershirt that hugged his chest, which was nicely defined due to drums and boxing.

"These are the movies I have. I don't know what you want to watch... OH! Popcorn! Take a look at the DVD's 'kay?"[/i]

"Alright, lets see what you have..."

He opened the case and started sifting through the DVDs as she went to start making the popcorn.

"So tell me about England."

"Well to me its the most wonderful place in the world. Beautiful architecture in London, which is where I'm from, and the people are really nice, they don't really care where you're from as long as you're not rude, they'll help you out and such. What else did you want to know?"

He looked over to her after plopping himself down on the couch.

Sara couldn't help but smile as she listened to him talking about England. He sounded so proud. She would have loved to have seen his face as he was speaking. Unfortunately, she was currently watching boring old popcorn pop. She laughed as he finished speaking and the microwave beeped that the popcorn was done. She pulled out the bag and poured it into a bowl she had grabbed from the cupboard.

"I don't know what else really. I'm just curious to know more about you." She giggled, reaching into the fridge and pulled out butter. After spooning in a large glob of it into the bowl and mixing it around she walked back out into the living room. She paused, giving him an appreciative glance. Very nice. Then she closed the distance and plopped down on the couch next to him as she waited for him to choose a DVD.

"See anything you like?" She laughed, knowing the question could be taken in more then one way. She pulled her legs up under her, turning her body slightly towards him as she leaned forward to look at the DVDs with him. Her hair was still up in the bun, her small neck exposed as she leaned close, pointing to a comedy. "I like that one... One of my favorites."

"I don't know what else really. I'm just curious to know more about you."[/i]

Sara was definitely interested in Nick, and he was interested in her as well, so that was a good way to start any type of relationship, friends or more.

"Well, I don't really know what to say about me... I guess I'll answer anything you ask me."

Nick really didn't mind answering anything she asked. He thought the more they knew about each other, the closer they could be.

"See anything you like?"[/i]

"Hmm..."

She pointed to a comedy he had never seen before.

"I like that one... One of my favorites."[/i]

Nick loved action and comedy, but he knew that those weren't the correct genre for a time like this. Another way to get closer to someone was a horror film. He flipped the DVDs over to the next page and he pointed at one of the scary movies.

"How about 'The Grudge'?" he smirked at her.

Sara smiled nervously. Since she had bought The Grudge, she had never once watched it. Not once. She had debated throwing it out more then once, and now wished with all her heart that she had. A small laugh to hide her nervousness and she took the DVD from the case and pushed herself off the couch.

"Sounds great! Awesome movie..." Right... Like she would know. Oh god, this was going to be embarrassing. She would have so many nightmares after this.

She knelt down and turned on the tv and the DVD player. The blue loading screen flickered onto the screen as she put the movie in and waited for it to load. It jumped right to the option screen and she grabbed the remote, stepping back.

A big breath and she stepped back, dropping next to him on the couch, quite close to him. She pulled her knees up to her chest and smiled at him. "Ready?"

She pressed play.

Sara seemed uneasy when he chose The Grudge. It was one of the scarce scary movies she had in her case, so Nick thought maybe she didn't like it. But she would have said something about it if she didn't, right?

Nick sat on the couch as she set up the TV and DVD player so they could watch the movie. And Nick could help but sneak a peak at her from behind as she did so. She was really cute and he was starting not to be able to confine his feelings for her. He would probably flirt and use body language to tell her how he felt.

"Yeah." he said simply and smiled serenely.

Nick turned to the TV to begin watching the movie and grabbed a little handful of popcorn. Apparently Sara liked butter as much as he did...

Her eyes followed his hand as he grabbed a handful of popcorn. She preferred watching his hand as the opening of the movie started, right into the action.

Letting her gaze flick quickly to the tv, she knew it was building up to something. Already. Right in the beginning of the movie D< She leaned closer to Nick and grabbed a handful of popcorn for herself, not bothering to lean back, so she rested lightly against him. Then she focused all her mind on eating the popcorn piece by piece. Which wasn't to hard. Her drunk mind managed to wander to stupid little things as she spaced out eating popcorn.

When the first handful was done, she grabbed another, eating it quickly, then licking the buttery goodness off the tips of her fingers. As she leaned over for a third handful, oblvious to watching the movie, her mind running on auto-pilot, the scream of a girl on the tv snapped through her mind and she jumped, pressing against his side, a small whimper coming from her as she turned her wide eyes to the tv.

Nick wasn't watching the movie that much either. He was preoccupied with observing the strange actions of Sara, which was rather entertaining. She was slowly getting closer to him and eating the popcorn in an odd manner. Handful, one piece at a time, lick fingers, repeat. He smiled widely at her, even if she didn't notice.

Then a scream from the movie sent Sara flying upwards and coming down to grab onto Nick for support, which in turn frightened Nick, who in turn grabbed onto Sara. He hugged he tightly, and even though it was from fright, he like the feel of her close against him. He turned to her to look her in the eyes.

"Are you okay?" he whispered.
