She's being a bit modest. At least, it seems that way. Maybe she was just an assassin for the hell of it, who knows.
"I was on my own at a young age, and ended up getting pinned with a few murders. Was arrested and sent to a prison school in Japan," Matrim began to explain, "After that I ended up in a less secure school that was much the same in it's student body, taking mostly serving as a prison for high school aged kids. I was the School Captain there, and the second I got a chance I got out of there and transferred to 259 because a friend of mine named Leon Sudeki told me I'd come across some new challenges, some fighters that could beat me. He happened to be right, and after that quake took stuff out, headed to 42, and became a Pillar. Simple as that," Matrim explained.
Sure I'm skipping out on a lot of details, but I don't want to bore her right?
"As for what I gain from this......." He thought about it, "I don't know, it's not a fear tactic. I can tell you that much, I don't deal with those. I just like knowing things, it works out to my advantage sometimes, but knowledge is power. And while I'm not the power hungry type, I certainly can't deny the benefit of knowing more about the student body. Know your enemies, know your friends, know your sword wielding ex-assassins, you get my drift."
He then dropped his more subtle approach in questions, "What got you into being an assassin, was there a job posting or...." He trailed off because he was never sure on how someone became an assassin.

“it was money…and I needed it. Why do people get hooked on drugs? Why do people join gangs?...it became my family. I was 13 and a skilled fighter from when my family had sent me to learn with the British royal navy. Fighting after running away was all I was still good at and so I was pulled into an assassin force quickly after working late shift at a shooting range…it was good money and kept me in good health. Of course I never thought about the fact I was actually taking a life, more like playing a game. Helped keep me sane….my friend Homi found me then, on a mission and I guess ever since I’ve kind of taken to seeing that I actually did kill people…she wasn’t exactly uncritical with beating it into me that I was just an empty shell.” She smirked softly and leaned into her hand.
She began to fiddle with her fork a little bit staring at it and through its prongs. However she looked at him with a smirk. So he seemed something like Amtrum in background…she felt sort of out of the loop when it came to normal teenage delinquency. She understood his motive too. Seemed to be more just being plain old curious and there was nothing wrong with that.

"....Why do people get hooked on drugs? Why do people join gangs?.."
Matrim let out a small cough to hide his surprise at how these questions pertained to him completely. But the rest of it seemed basic enough. Personally Matrim wasn't seeing anything wrong with the whole killing people thing, strangely enough that didn't concern him at all. In fact, nothing about her set off any flags in his mind. He had done the whole interrogation dealio quite well, but nothing about this girl set off any alerts. The truth was this was the sort of person Matrim could get along with as a person, at least it seemed that way.
"Sometimes killing is necessary, and the simple fact is that if you hadn't done it they just would have hired somebody else. Besides, we all have to make a living somehow. Besides, even if you do get sentimental about those people, fact is, feeling bad about it won't bring them back to life. So in the future, kill when you need to. And if you end up killing for money, don't kill anyone I love and we're square. I'd say kill me and I'd be pissed but... kill me and I'd be dead. So, not much I'd be able to do then eh?"
Matrim laughed a little about this. For some reason he felt like she should remain an empty shell. If it protected you from feeling guilt, then by all means. Just don't continuously make the same mistake, or if you do, at least don't enjoy the killing. That's at least something, not enjoying the work. Just doing it for the paycheck.

See Bastille was no longer an empty shell she seemed to be. She felt the guilt, she had when she had killed him. Bu she continued anyway, going on. It was a sort of masochistic thing to do to herself. Because it felt like rapture and atonement for her love being killed. Later she realized she was just being a stupid teenager and stopped. She still was a stupid teenager. At least now it wasn’t at the expense of others. She had to smirk at that a bit.
“nah, its not really like that…just saw what I was doing wasn’t for me, im a bit of time paradox…born in the wrong era as people tell me.” In truth, sometimes they way she spoke you could hear it, or the way she fought you could see it. She was a huge fan of honor codes long extinct. She liked old chivalry…it was gracious and good to her. Yet she also sort of laughed inwardly. If this guy might even thing she was docile and benign….he was wrong. Bastille was a fire cracker as well as very happy to toy with truth and peoples futures and minds. It was just to her own amusement.

"I bet," Matrim said, thinking about the sword, "I'm actually curious as to what it'd be like to fight a sword wielding ex assassin...." Matrim's mind went to fighting like a moth to the flame at times like this. The idea of a challenge, an opponent with a weapon and Matrim being left unarmed. He had only once before used a sword to decapitate someone, and that was all the experience he had with blades. That and watching that woman fight in the Paladin Wars.... God that was scary.
"The question is... do you get annoyed with challenges? When somebody asks you to fight, for quite literally no reason other than to satisfy their own curiosity as to who would win... do you get annoyed?" Matrim asked. This was quite possibly the most important of all of his questions, "Or does it make your blood boil with excitement?"
Let's see what type of fighter she is as far as challenges go.... because I really want to take this girl on, sword or no sword....
