Another PHS. Number 42...the meaning of life, or so it should have been, but we all know how this works out. Spend a few thousand years building a computer to contemplate that, and you get a meaningless, ambiguous, completely arbitrary number. Solly was built from scratch to blow stuff up, and now, here he was, at the start of his old life. Chronological age? Twenty-nine...appearance? Not a day over seventeen, the age of his first death at the hands of that atrocious disease. And now look, a man, of twenty-nine years, a genius, a successful business man, military commander...

...And he didn't have his high school diploma.

Interesting how that all worked out wasn't it?

Sadly, he probably wasn't going to fit in with the kids, even on the first day, and would likely be outcast. I mean...look. Unbuttoned suit...funny hat...odd Russian accent. Granted his English was perfect...but the fact still remained. He was one hell of a foreign student here. No doubt about it. However. One person. One damned person he was looking for, and he sure as hell found him.

Solly was always good at tracking.

Even if it was lucky. Damn Matrim...Solly took his left arm...and...WHAM. Sucker punch in the back of the head.

"That was for removing the chip!"

He was of course referring to the 650 incident...gunship and all.

Matrim had just got done beating up some punks who were starting trouble by picking on a little kid, after all Matrim was still the big nicey around campus. People looked up to him it seemed, and it also appeared that most of the kids didn't agree with all the destruction of the school buildings Gabriel's group had done. Something about people finding out a pregnant woman was threatened usually made a few people weary of buying into someone.

Like rats in a maze....

Matrim couldn't help but be glad everything went the way it did, he missed Reira though. That was something he didn't want, not at all. But that was something he was dealing with....

*sad moment*

*WHAM*

"Owwww!" He said instinctively, his head shooting forward. The voice he recognized, but it couldn't be......

"That was for removing the chip!"

"The chip was screwing up my---"

*WHAM*

"And that was for being a dumbass and trying to run!"

"HEY! I had good reason damnit....." He said and turned his head to see Solaris Awren..... he saw and felt Solaris Awren.... there was nothing nanite about it. Matrim was in awe, standing square with the taller kid who appeared to be like a really young teacher. Matrim knew this guy as an A.I., someone who had been and still was in his head. But he didn't have a body... he was a toaster... just a fucking Solitaire game...

Matrim would poke Solaris square in the chest as if trying to test and see if he was real, "But.... what the..... alright, what the hell.... since when do you make nanites this good?"

That was the first outburst of any sort of anger that Solaris had in awhile, and damn, it actually felt good to have. And even better was the feeling of hand connecting to Matrim's skull. Oh that delicious feeling of beating down an old friend. If only just for a second. He didn't want to fight...oh no, that'd be silly! Silly as can be. As right now, Mr. Funny Hat would probably lose to his student, well...former student. Now...colleague? Damn.

This was too sickening.

"Good reason my ass! The fuel to catch you two from being killed cost a fortune!"

And what the hell was he looking...oh right. New body. Well, sort of. Doctor's orders and all. This was gonna be one hell of an awkward relationship. No, not that kind. Psh. What the hell we're you thinking?

"I don't. But I remember what chicken tastes like. It really sucks."

Next time someone told him that cauliflower tasted like chicken, they were getting shot. Several times. Survivors would be shot again.

Then beaten.

"Well, look again," Matrim said, looking away with a pissed look on his face. He was so angry about one thing above all... something that had changed since 650, something he wanted more than anything in the world. Besides Reira to be brought back, "A lot has changed. As you already know, Alex has died. His cousin goes here, an actual member of the Hikari family. Reira Gallagher passed away after giving birth to my son Shayne. And my Qi is no longer a protective armor, but an armor of flame which provides no protection whatsoever. It just burns whatever it touches."

Matrim was surprised the boy was much taller than he was, in the flesh he thought that Solaris would be somewhat shorter, but in the end he was tall and somewhat like an older brother, "Still never got over having you, Luni, and Aternity in my head though. That really creeped me out.... but you have to admit, if you knew everything about 650... if you were one of the prisoners. You'd try to get the hell out of their too I'm certain of it. So don't blame me for leaving, blame me for leaving and leaving a trail for the Paladins to follow."

Matrim let the anger die out, he didn't want to fight Solaris, he would probably kick his ass, it wouldn't be a fair fight. Solaris wasn't himself, he was fighting with a handicap like this. Maybe if Solaris got stronger he would, "So, how are Lunari and Aternity?"

Solly knocked his left fist against his chin twice, indicating a little bit of thought. He had no shame in pissing Matrim off, in fact, it was more amusing than anything. Just like old times, mostly. Yes, much had changed, but one thing had not. Matrim's anger toward him...and possible bitterness. It was there. No doubt about that. But...then again, in an interesting twist of events, Solly could not be angry back at Matrim. I mean...seriously, that long in someones head would twist anyone.

But that didn't mean it wasn't fun.

"My condolences...and congrats to your new son. I'm sorry you had to deal with us, but it was for the better."

Solly's mind was still fuzzy on the details surrounding his family, and had no particular care for Matrim's Qi at the moment...how it mutated was more of Luni's deal, and by his count, she was still in Alaska...Aternity was somewhere at a close university. They were doing fine for the most part.

"They're okay. Ternie is in college somewhere close...Luni is still teaching at Point Hope, God knows how long...solar eclipse and all and...she's married. To Toby."

"Oh dear sweet Jesus....." Matrim said, thinking about that combination. Toby was a drunk Irishman with the ability to nullify all Qi in the area, and Lunari... well... the moonlight gave her Qi power. The cycle of the moon determined how powerful she was. He had seen her at her best point, and her worst in a very weird turn of events back at 650. The idea of her during the Solar Eclipse was.... well.... "It's a good thing Toby will be around her then... although I kind of wonder if he'd be able to even contain her in the slightest....."

God imagine what kind of kids THOSE two would have...... On second thought I really don't want to think about that. Otherwise, I'll worry and start Qi training Shayne this very instant.....

"And how about your core? Is it stable with you like this? I never did find out where that thing went, though I'm sure there's a reason I don't know that," Matrim said, remembering 650 and the thing Dani had planned for Solaris. Solaris didn't know that Matrim had actually somewhat stood up for him at 650. Dani planning to take out Solaris as a way to try and get out of that place. Matrim's idea was always and will always be to attack Kane Hikari and his faculty directly. Of course after seeing the schools defenses during the Paladin war... he was glad he went with the plan Alex had made.

"So, you got yourself a new body," Matrim said, "Still doesn't explain what you're doing here in particular. Were you really that determined to give me two hits to the head?"

"That's what I said."

Yeah. Lunari and Toby were damn well near the most opposite of people. The Null and the Mage. This would most easily be the most dysfunctional family since the Addams. But then again, on further thought, Luni having her husband around would calm the excessive displays of energy that came from moments like this one, and would protect her from the more common Lunar Eclipse. Dysfunctional family sure, but he had certainly been the right pick. Drunk or not, Toby was an incredibly bright person.

"He can, albeit it might be a little painful. On the subject of the core, it was always stable, but the reactor that surrounded it, wasn't. Hikari's engineers sucked. The core itself is still very much active. It's at my condo."

Contrary to popular belief, it was the core that made the reactor stable, not the other way around. That power plant created not mega, but TERAwatts of power, and if there wasn't something to keep it stable, it surely would have gone thermonuclear, likely detonating somewhere in the gigaton range. Needless to say, leaving would have been a very bad thing if he were simply pulled out.

Matrim snickered without smiling, just one short snicker, and then a second followed my a small split second laugh. He was holding it back so hard it was bringing tears to his eyes, and then it happened, he snapped, "HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! SOLARIS AWREN! MATH GENIUS! ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE EXTRAORDINAIRE! WITHOUT SO MUCH AS A DIPLOMA UNDERNEATH HIS BELT!" He laughed and laughed before saying, "Go ahead and do it, it'd just be a strange form of suicide."

Thanks to all the experiments this man did on him, or kid in this case, Matrim was part him. The part that kept everything held together. Sure it was an incomplete part, but it was a part nonetheless, "Seriously though, thanks, I needed that one....."

The question now is, do I need to run o____O

Matrim took a step away from Solaris getting ready to dodge or run if necessary, if nothing happened he would sigh and let himself relax for a little bit. Seeing Solaris still put him on edge. A part of him was still calculating ways to get away and make sure Solaris can never find him again...

The core's stable huh... that's good. Mine wasn't so stable... at least not after taking it out...

"I'm surprised you're more angry about me taking out the chip though, especially considering what we did to white wolf lake."

There was a glare first, then some kind of death stare. That was certainly not Omega talking, or laughing. Nope. That was Matrim's level of sheer stupidity. Blurting out he was a computer. That punk. He was going to die at some point, but meh. Not right here. Matrim was most definitely physically stronger than he was, but right now, it didn't matter. There would be no unit of time small enough to measure how fast Solly would come down on him with some sort of blunt instrument.

But then again...

"Yeah. You're welcome. Don't sleep tonight."

Technically, Solly was still an AI. He didn't HAVE to sleep if he didn't want to. It was the one advantage he had over everyone else. 12 years of insomnia. Hell, if he needed to, just blast his room with the ion cannon. Or something like that. Bah, no need to blow up a school over this tiny insult. He'd have his revenge.

"White Wolf was funny as hell. And I just needed an excuse to hit you...so I made that up."

There was an amused grin on his face.

"Sleep? Don't tease me like that. Remember, baby. That one doesn't work any more." He said, taking the threat and giving the ultimate counter point to that threat. Matrim hadn't had a full night of sleep since the hospital and even then it was sleeping in the waiting room which wasn't all that comfortable at all.

"White Wolf was funny as hell. And I just needed an excuse to hit you...so I made that up." Solaris said, and Matrim's eyes narrowed as he stared over at Solaris. He wanted nothing more than to beat the crap out of him right now, and he probably could.... and it'd probably relieve a lot of tension...... as a matter of fact it sounded like... a lot of fun.... but....

But...... I....... wait why shouldn't I? I don't have any reason not to.....

And with that Matrim would jump up on the boys back, attempting to wrap his legs around Solaris' waist, his left arm would wrap around Solaris' chest to keep himself up, his right hand would form a fist, the middle fingers knuckle sticking out he would put the knuckle to the top of Solaris head and twist it, putting pressure against it to make it hurt and annoy all at the same time, "Not so big now huh?"
