With a sigh of relief that had been building up inside him all day, Aureus shouldered open the door to the cafeteria and mechanically picked up a tray before getting in line. Pushed to and fro by the rest of the students in the que, he grabbed at a pre-made cold cut, a plate of pasta, an apple, and with an amazing display of balance and grace, the last bowl of pudding. It was important to move as cautiously as possible, least someone make a move for his dessert. Aureus moved steadily forward, bending and twisting around and about with his tray held close to his chest. Thankfully, he reached the cashiers unscathed and quickly scanned his meal card before breaking out of the mob.
The day had been stressful so far, what with it's usual fights, homework to be done, college paperwork to complete, and feelings of existential worthlessness. The schizo felt like he needed to create something. He was completely second rate at everything and it was all making his head pound. After getting a Gatorade from one of the various vending machines, the Senior sat down at one of the empty tables in the corner. His mind was going in twenty directions at once and he felt like he needed to settle down and focus on something for once. With a low growl of frustration he slammed his head down into the table.

Bleh, sloppy joe day. Gwyn couldn't even begin to describe what was wrong with them. They were messy for one, resembling vomit on a bun, and who knew what was in it. Was it truly meat? The sophomore didn't eat meat anyway, but just thinking about it made her feel sick like no other. She grabbed a pre-made salad and an apple and orange, making her way through the line to the desert tray. There was one pudding left, yes!
Though just as her manicured hand reached out for it, it was swiped away by a brown haired boy, disappearing to the cashier counter to ring up his meal.
DAMNIT!
The scene girl scowled, pushing her bright pink lips together and gripping her tray tightly. She had wanted that...and she still did.
Pushing her way through the rest of the line, one kid ending up with a tray in the face, sloppy joe all down his front. Hah...he deserved it. She pulled her meal card from her pocket and handed it to the cashier who slid it, though Gwyn followed the movement of the pudding boy as best she could.
Luckily he was sitting alone, easier to corner him off and go after her prize. As long as he didn't eat it first. She waltzed up to his table, flipping a pink strand of hair behind her shoulder with a sweet smile.
"Hey...mind if I sit here?"
She asked in a psuedo-shy manner, nodding to the seat across from him. Godric had told her one that she should go into acting...or con artistry, with her ability to control her outward self with such precision.

At the sound of a sheepish female voice asking to sit at the table, Aureus raised his head to look at her. He was rather surprised at the girl's appearance, as it was extremely flamboyant, because it didn't match her voice at all. That alone made him suspicious. People who dressed eccentrically were usually compensating for something or rebelling against something, and her tone didn't fit the typical scene girl attitude. So either she was new at it, was into him, or was acting. Raising a questioning eyebrow at her, he replied "I don't mind. Name's Aureus, by the way, and you are?" He was curious to figure her out. Glancing down at his food, the Senior picked up the apple and took a large bite.

Gwyn wasn't acting overly shy, like the kind of girl that said two words in class if it was a good day, but a good, wholesome kind of shy. When he spoke, she set her tray down and sat down across from him, blinking her heavily made up eyes.
"Aureus...I like it. My name is Gwendolyn."
She picked up her fork and stabbed at her salad, popping the forkful into her mouth and waiting until she swallowed to speak again, taking the time of her chewing to plot out her next move. Her aqua hues gave him an appraising once-over, he was pretty cute, slender, unlike the football jocks were were talking muscle. He had a sort of indie look to him, not bad at all...but unfortunately he had something she wanted, and she was going to get it one way or another.
"You new here? I would have known if I'd seen you around here before.."

Analyzing everyone's actions and their intentions got sort of old, but it's what he did. Aureus was always in his head, thinking about this or that. "Nice to meet you, Gwyn." He answered with a short smile before taking another bite of the green apple. He was glad the cafeteria had them and not just the usual red variety.
Glancing back over at the girl, his dull brown eyes examined her carefully. Pink hair, lots of extensions, lip piercings, bracelets, and other accessories adorned the girl, making her stick out like a sore thumb. She probably had a glittery personality that matched. That type of girl had never much appealed to Aureus, but Gwyn seemed nice enough. Setting the apple down, the Senior moved on to his pasta.
"You must have a pretty good memory then, 'cause I'm fairly plain looking. But yeah, I'm new. I had to transfer from 259. It was nice getting out of Long Beach too." He continued after wiping his mouth with a napkin.

"Nice to meet you, Gwyn."
He already shortened her name, meaning he had possibly heard of her (which was not impossible since she was pretty well known in these parts, and had recently gotten a segment for the Weekly Whammy), or he was one of those fools guys who instantly familiarized themselves with a person. Whatever, she didn't mind much.
"You must have a pretty good memory then, 'cause I'm fairly plain looking. But yeah, I'm new. I had to transfer from 259. It was nice getting out of Long Beach too."
Plain looking, huh? He got that right. Gwyn just smiled, taking another bite of her salad as he explained where he was from. A lot of transfers came from Long Beach, what with that earthquake and all. It kind of made the school smell more crowded, but Moral Crest was a rather hospital school.
"Well, welcome to Moral Crest, Aur. I hope you make yourself at home here."
She shortened his name like he had to hers, amusing herself by playing off what she noticed in other people and projecting it back to them. Whether they noticed or cared she didn't care, it was a simple amusement to her.

It seemed like she had made a point to mock his shortening of her name. "Dunno how much of a home it'll be. I won't be here for too much longer. I'm a Senior and the year's almost out. Oh and, I only shortened your name because it's easier to say." Aureus replied before digging back into the pasta. The sauce was a little bland, but it could've been much worse. "So, tell me about yourself. What makes you different from everyone else here?" he asked, implying that her colorful dress wasn't too special, and it wasn't. There were plenty of kids who tried so hard to look different, not that it was a bad thing. He just wanted to see what she'd say.

Had she said anything about him shortening her name? She made a mental note on the assumptions this boy makes, he may think he knows more than he does. Simpleton. They all are. Gwyn frowned slightly, picking up a cracker from her tray and eating it.
"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. I'm sure you're ready to be done with this school business though."
"So, tell me about yourself. What makes you different from everyone else here?"
Another interesting stupid question. What makes you different? Why do you do what you do? What the hell are you thinking looking like that? She got it all the time, but she smiled mildly, looking down at herself then back to him.
"You mean besides how I look?"
She laughed. It was a joke. Hah.
Gwyn rested her elbow on the table, thinking. (How was she going to get that pudding?!)
"I like what I like, I don't what I don't. I don't care what the newest trend or the hottest celebrity fragrance is, and I don't care if you can even eat it." Yes, she was referring to the Jessica Simpson line. "I go for what I want, and no one can tell me differently."
She smirked, her aqua hues glinting.
"Is that enough for you?"

"Yeah, 'cause you actually look pretty plain." Aureus chided, laughing along with her. Her answer wasn't quite what he expected, except the part about the "celebrity fragrances". Of course she detested the waves of attention everyone heaped on celebrities for no good reason, it was a staple of the whole "punk/whatever" group. At the same time, anyone with a brain was sickened by America's pathetic movie star worship. Their own lives were so boring that they had to live them out through other people.
"Nope. Anyone could say that. I wanna know specifically what YOU like, what YOU want." the boy answered, poking his pasta covered fork at her as his eyes locked onto hers. So far Gwyn was giving him average lunch conversation, but Aureus figured if he pushed her enough they'd get to something truly interesting.
