Honestly, I'm in a very depressed, disappointed and for the first time ever in RPB history, in an angry mood. I've been keeping my peace more than any other mod here, but I would like to make my feelings regarding all the bullshit going on to be known. Please don't take offense against me for saying this as I will, as I am in a difficult situation, I am both a prisoner in the CF and a moderator here in PHS 42.
I hate having low morale. Reason: to go online and hear that there was yet another complaint. I want to bitch right now, but that won't be appropriate and necessary. This is all I'll have to say, (pardon to those who would rather not open this fucking topic in spam again) but God dammit... God. Freaking. Dammit.
People need to make up their fucking minds -- and so do I, so I will rant about it here.
Issue #1
Criticism
We are all RPing here to have fun, but I know that for some of us (including myself) we are here to learn and improve our english in terms of grammar (not grammer, for God's freaking sake) and reading comprehension. None of us here can boast of having flawless English and RPing skill. We have our preferences, and some of those preferences can be a bit annoying -- "Lifting" is one issue previously raised onto public eye.
Sure it's annoying and can be a little off for some, but it's a very, VERY minor problem if a problem at all. Not to be very critical, but this is bullshit to even bitch about in public. If you have a problem with someone regarding something- anything, let me make this one suggestion: stop it with chatting amongst your friends, saying that you have a problem with this and that and then not saying it to the person you have a problem with himself/herself. Stop it with the backstabbing. People need to get a backbone and try at least, to be honest. And if you want to be honest, don't fucking broadcast it.
And if someone gives you criticism -- for god's sake, stop whining. This doesn't mean they hate you. Being a n00b will make people dislike you, but hate will only come if you demand that things go your way.
See where I'm going here?
Issue #2
Rewards
Okay, a really sensitive topic. I know that everyone is frustrated with the situation regarding the rewards that were given out and/or supposed to be given out in recent times. The CF is something I could call as "Leon's legacy". It was something so great and complicated, and yet in the end it fucks us over. He left it moving slowly to the point when Mikey had to take things into his hands and do most of the dirty work. Knowing Mikey, we all know he can be masochistic and we all appreciate his work.
The mods wouldn't really have any issues with the stats and items if NO ONE made a complaint, and now that it was raised up to the mods about how "over the top" the rewards were, the mods had to take action. From that meeting, I and many other mods knew very well that we'd totally be screwed over. No one will be happy with how things will turn out. No one ever is.
We decided to NOT nerf anything. Everything will be given, but something has to be chopped off. Personally, I think the stats will be fine if you cut off the power of some of the items at least by half. It's either the items or the freaking exp. Because no matter how you deserve it (and don't fucking tell me I don't know how you guys deserve it, I've been in that fucking quest and stuck there for more than anyone currently active today - and I checked. I've bested you all (along with Mathew) by 14 days, tops.)
Now we've thought of a solution, people start bitching about the rewards they deserve. Yes, you guys deserve the awards. I read that thing Masaru said about the toy you worked hard for being taken away. It's not how this thing is to me, but rather something close to: You earned $100 for sitting down for 20 minutes to answer a survey. You deserved it because you did what was said in the contract and it was promised to you, but you sure earned a hefty amount -- even more than those who worked for money in the normal way.
In 259, there were complaints about the Arena being too open on giving rewards. Rewards being as much as 7 exp a fight and THAT was already a big issue even when I personally revamped the Arena system. Another issue on 259 was that you-know-who gave away a LOT of exp during the quest. If anything, Emily received over 50 exp already by being experimented on twice.
So, if anything -- as I've heard most recently about Matrim getting stats that much, please do add me to the list. I don't feel it's fair that I get 53 exp plus the exp I've earned from Leon. This will mean I will have over ONE HUNDRED EXP earned from this quest alone. If anything, I don't deserve any rewards -- or at least, I only deserve a small amount of it.
Call me a power player, or someone who did some politicking with Leon now for having that. Neither names would be true.
If anything, the only people who were banned from 259 were Justin, Chris (I think) and Ally. Everyone else left at their own will. If I missed anything. Feel free to flame. I probably deserve it.
42 was created not to be a haven for those who exiled themselves from PHS42, nor an escape from Leon's aristocratic rule -- it was created to continue the lives of the characters whose RPers found Leon's rule unfair and biased. I personally was scared off by Leon himself on MSN, when he began threatening Justin and Ally. That was the only reason I avoided 259 in spite of the promise I have made to stick around until I have settled Emily's affairs there.
42 is no haven. This is like any other RPB ever made. Rules are similar, stat systems are similar, heck -- the coding work is pretty similar to most, if not some of the Xin RPBs.
In defense of those accused of powerplaying -- Matrim (who was given to me as an example) for one started out with these stats (items aside):
After 25 fight threads, and earning 36 exp from them -- not to mention the 20 exp he had gotten from ranking up twice. Would you call that power playing?
Would you?
Now, next concern regarding the rewards: the Mr. Purple quest rewards accused of being given out to favorites -- not to mention this aforementioned people becoming moderators.
These characters were given credit according to the significance of their ordeal throughout the quest. Emily for example became qualified (and in reality, tied with Adrian. In spite of having only done a very few posts) for the said major reward because of the fact that if it wasn’t for her, Travis wouldn’t be given an opening to stop Mr. Purple. It’s like a boxing match (if you’ve watched the match between Lightweight Soto and Goudet on yesterday you’ll get what I mean real quick). It doesn’t matter how many punches you’ve landed if all those punches are weak in nature. A few punches would be enough to cause a TKO when landed correctly (and if it’s of any worth for my fellow boxing fans, award them more points) and with enough strength. Posts are not different.
In spite of all I said, I feel as if there will still be no escape for moderator team on this issue. You will hate us for either decision. I wish people would be more clear with what they want to happen. We try to listen, but we also wonder if some of you listen to us as well. I know that most, if not some, may have lost faith in 42’s moderating team – and I can understand why. It seems as if we, the mods are putting too much effort in trying to please all of you.
Henceforth, I propose the following: 1) leave the items and rewards as it is. Be forwarned, that these items will create MORE overpowered players in the board. If you think several RPers being overpowered is an issue, then a boardful of powerplayers will only label us as powergrabbers and cause us to be shunned amongst Xin RPs; 2) allow the mods to find a suitable and reasonable cut so that rewards will still be given, but they will be regulated; or 3) quit 42. The quickest and simplest way out of all our frustrations and in turn, show all other RPBs how weak we are as a community. The moment you give up is when you lose completely.
There is no trust in the administration, and the members aren’t happy – then maybe 42 isn’t worth moderating at or even RPing at, or anywhere at that matter.
Because when people find something wrong with an RPB they quit and transfer. Haven’t we learned our lesson from 259? 259 died because people quit (for valid reason), and it seems like a similar exodus looms over 42 – and where will all of you go? Everywhere else; that is until you’ve gone at such a point where you’ll transfer and transfer every single time you’re frustrated because of an unfair decision or some OoC quarrel.
Has transferring/quitting become a habit? An escape of which to conveniently just “move on to a “better” place?” If that is the truth, then I think what Chris was going somewhere when said something about us being n00bs – I think we are surely acting like one, as a community overall. I am referring not only to just 259 and 42, but the entire Xin community.
I have said my piece, and I will be silent until then.
Moderators, your crosses are great – I have told you that I will carry at least some. What I’ve said may bring many to hate me, but my ideals tell me that I could care less.
The members have been heard in a lot of threads already, maybe it was time to give my piece. That is all.
