Nick followed Aurora into the room as she picked her bass, which was almost as big as she was. He, however, chose to go over to the Korg Oasys synthesizer that was over by where Aurora was standing.
"I guess I'll start, join in whenever you're ready."
He looked through the options and found a nice classic synth pad and started to play a harmony. He thought she was probably pretty decent at the bass, considering her hearing was heightened due to her lack of vision. If Aurora was good enough on the bass, she would be able to lay a melody over it instead of a rhythm. He spoke as he played.
"You would love my home. Instruments propped up on ever wall, in ever nook and cranny that place has."

Aurora listened for a moment as the synth kicked into gear. Something was oddly different about it. And then she knew what it was. My my, what a showoff. The little punk started on F-sharp...who starts on F-sharp?! Granted he was good at it and all, but still, it was a rarity, and Thirteen, having to either play rhythm or melody, considered it a challenge. She was taught she was only one away from a good note, but in this case, it had better be perfect. To hell if she was going to stood up in her own studio that is.
"I see what you did there...trying to test me are you?"
Style didn't really matter right now, they weren't going for perfect sound, and since she'd played fingerstyle yesterday, she started off with slap, crashing her left hand's thumb into the A, but fretting the root and moving from there.
"I'm sure it would be lovely Nicolas...really now? Showoff."
Damn keyboardists...always so competitive...just like her.

Nick grinned a toothy smile at her and changed keys right in the middle of his playing. He went from the F# gracefully into B minor. Music theory was so etched into his brain that he could do so without thinking about it. He was just challenging and testing her skills to see if she was worthy enough for him. Musically, of course.
"Come on, keep up, I don't want to lose you now." he mocked.
If Aurora could keep up with him and his crazy music antics, he would change key yet again. Probably to C major or something simple like that.

He could change keys all he damn well pleased. He wasn't going to lose her, her ear was just too good. What he might lose her in was the stress of reaching the frets on the bass. A a short height of 5 feet, one inch, Aurora was usually considered to be too small to play even a standard bass, and yet she was striking away on a six stringed 35 inch long-scale...slap style. She would lose long before in endurance than she would musically, which is often why she a continuum...there was less stress with her arms. Aurora quickly switched to fingerstyle to give her some extra time.
If she had any chance of winning this imprompu battle, she'd have to throw him off in odd time measures. Her blank eyes glared at him as an evil smile crooked her face. The accents on each measure of the standard 4/4 signature turned suddenly into 7/4, then to the evil 9/4. If she didn't take him out here, then Aurora would lose when her fingers and right arm fell through.

Nick could tell that he was winning their little battle with the changes in key. She just couldn't keep up that long with such a large bass in tiny hands, it was physically impossible.
Apparently she knew she would lose if this kept up, so she tried to go fancy on him and change time signatures. Obviously she didn't know how extensive he had learned different music theories, so he had no trouble changing as she did. He saw that evil grin on her face, but if she could see, she'd notice that Nick was smirking casually, as if he did this every day. Which he basically did.
"Come on, is that all you've got?"
The funny thing in Nick's mind, was that the keyboard wasn't his best instrument.

"Sadly, yes, yes it is."
She had picked her largest mobile instrument, sixteen pounds of pure mahogany and rosewood, which normally she'd be able to play, but not in such a vigorous and competitive manner. If that was going to be the case, she would have played the continuum, or gone to the nearby college to play with the reacTable, a synthesizer in which she had become very skilled. Neither instrument was quite as active as the bass or keyboards were, but hey, both were still difficult in their own right.
Fate had already destined Nick to win, since he'd made the choices to become more musically inclined than she, but then again, because of her knowledge of time and space, she could still win. The evil smile had not been for the time signature changes. Nope, not at all.
Instead, she kicked out the plug to the KORG.
"What happened dear, you didn't lose track did you? I'm sorry, I'll slow down."
She played just a couple more notes, and stopped, her own arm tired of holding Lilith, the beast bass up with her left arm. Maybe she should invest in an electric upright? Heh. That was an amusing thought.
"I'm sorry love, you lose. You always lose in my house."
There was a friendly smile on her face as she unplugged the amp...
"But thank you so much for playing with me. It's been quite the treat."

The music his fingers were playing was now inaudible. He stopped when he realized there wasn't any sound coming from the synthesizer.
"What happened dear, you didn't lose track did you? I'm sorry, I'll slow down."[/i]
"You poor sport, I saw that!"
He didn't really see it, but he knew that she had kicked the power cable from the Korg.
"I'm sorry love, you lose. You always lose in my house."[/i]
"Then next time we'll do it at my house."
Nick was disappointed because he knew he had won, but he probably wouldn't be able to convince her to admit defeat. He did happen to get competitive when it came to his number one passion, though.

"Poor sport? I'd call it a choice of fate...remember?"
Alright, fate probably hadn't been expecting that one, and nor was Aurora going to get into a musical fight with him ever again. She also had to now convince herself that there were things that people could do that even she could not. Some were physically impossible, and others were just flat out better than her. It was a disadvantage, and maybe a curse at that. Oh well. That's how the balance was kept in the universe after all.
"I agree, but it probably won't be so competitive next time dear."
She'd learned her lesson and put away the bass, silently concieding defeat to her guest. It was sad, but then again, with her choice of instrument, completely inevitable. She looked over to Nick, happy that he had joined her out of his busy schedule of sleeping to chill...hang...spend time with her. Even then, they had lost track of time, and it was getting ever later. Aurora soon needed a nap.
"Well...I've had fun love, but, I need some rest, kind of tired from that brute."
She was referring to the bass. Blasted thing.

Nick thought that maybe he went a little overboard with the competitiveness of their little jam session. Sometimes it sucked being a musically enhanced person; you needed someone on an equal level to enjoy something like that with them.
"Aw, you're throwing me out already?"
Nick had a fun time, and he'd have to come over again or invite her over to his place or go out and do something with her. Aurora looked tired and she probably wanted to doze off after their battle of crazy keys and time signatures. Nick smiled at her even though he knew she couldn't see it.
"Alright, I guess... I'll see you at school or something another time?"
After she answered and walked him to the door, he would go back home and probably doze off as well.

"I have to love, you wore me out...and my show is coming on soon."
If there was one thing Thirteen did do alone, it was to listen to the telly. Maybe it was a sentimental thing, to feel normal, to feel like she belonged in a normal crowd, but then again, the voice acting on her shows were awfully good, maybe it was that she was drawn to. And it's not that she didn't enjoy Nick's company, in fact, is was quite the opposite, she very much enjoyed his company...it was just getting late, and even with her own house, own rules and schedule...she stuck to it, and it was already overtime.
"I wouldn't have it any other way love, and I'll still see you Saturday."
Just like Nicolas did in the beginning, Aurora gladly hugged Nick and saw him out the door, smiling all the while. He was quite the character to behold...quite the character.
