Back in the day, fire represented light, warmth and life. A small fire from a candle could light the path of someone in the darkness -- but should it be angered, and given enough fuel it could consume everything in it's path.
Ryuu would try to jab Emily with his left hand, but she would try to catch it with her free hand. Should she catch his fist, her hand would grip on it tightly, locking it onto her palm. She skid a bit back, but she would be in control.
Her lips feigned a smirk, as her body began to heat up into an insane amount of heat. He was locked deliberately onto her hand as she just stood there, and the longer his land was there, he would be burnt slowly like a crab on a broiler. Technically, it was also an attempt at defending herself from Ryuu's own fire-based Qi by using her increase in body temperature to math Ryuu's own.
Why, you know what they say: fight fire with fire, ne?
Qi Activated!

Talk about bringing the fire. Ryuu fully expected Emily to catch his fist, which she did. Granted, his hand was engulfed in flames, so any normal person who caught it would be given a first degree burn immediately. But let's be honest, neither he, or Emily, were normal. He had a Qi for one thing, and so did she. He felt her hand grip onto his tightly, his hand locked into her palm, as she skidded back a bit, as he fully realized that she was in control now. He saw her smirk, as he felt his arm begin to warm up, before long, he felt like he was baking. What the...? This was insane, he was starting to sweat profusely, as beads of sweat began to run down his face. It wasn't hot in the dojo to begin with, and he didn't crank the heat up. A look of dawning realization then appeared on his face, as his hands continued to stay engulfed in flames.
"Your Qi..." He said quietly, as a smirk started to form on his face. "I don't know what your Qi is, per say, but it's heat-based isn't it?" She was trying to defend herself from the flames generated by his own Qi. Fighting fire with fire, how interesting. Though his left hand was caught in Emily's grip, he still had his right hand, and attempted to slash at Emily using the fan. Again, he fully expected her to block it, though he was trying, admittedly, to distract her enough so he could free his hand from her grip before he ended up like a steamed lobster. "Bringing the fire are we?" He said, leaning forward, slightly close to her, his red eyes looking into her green eyes, the smirk still on his face as he attempted to slash her, hopefully they didn't end up burning the dojo down.

"I don't know what your Qi is, per say, but it's heat-based isn't it?" Emily just smiled. Why, yes, her Qi was basically heat-based. But she wouldn't say anything at this point. She saw his shoulder moving, and if Emily's thoughts would be right on this one.
"Bringing the fire are we?" He slashed the fan onto Emily
"You could put it that way." She said, flinging her fan up to use and try to parry the fan that Ryuu had. They were awkwardly close to each other, staring at each other really hard. If there were any onlookers, they might've gotten the wrong idea about the two.
"Your eyes are not brown, is it...?" She asked, finally noticing the shade. "It's red. How peculiar..."

All Ryuu got in response to his question was a smile, which pretty much confirmed what he asked, her Qi was heat-based, though he still didn't know what it was. He then attempted to slash at her, mostly as a distraction while he tried to free his fist, but her grip on his hand was tight. "You could put it that way." He saw her fling her fan up to parry his attack, as the sound of metal clashing rang out through the dojo. They were in extremely close proximity with each other, both of them staring at the other intensely, if anyone came around and saw them, they would probably get the wrong impression of what was really happening between the two of them. "Your eyes are not brown, is it...?" "No," Ryuu began to say, as he frowned slightly at her comment, "My eyes are gray, and I never wear contacts."
He then pushed his fan up against Emily's fan, trying to send her backwards, as he attempted to free his hand. "It's red. How peculiar..." Ah, now Ryuu understood why she asked about his eyes. "... It's because of my Qi," Ryuu began to explain, "Whenever I activate it, my eyes change from gray to red. I guess it's an effect of me using it." He then began to shake his hand in an attempt to free it, sending the both of their arms flying in every direction. Because he was pushing his fan up against hers, their faces were even closer than before, as he smirked at Emily. "All we need is a bag of marshmallows, chocolate, and graham crackers, and we're good to go," He said jokingly, "I'll even roast the marshmallows for you."

"Gray, huh?" Emily said before Ryuu pushed up against her, sending her to skid backwards because of his weight. Otherwise, she was still fine - after all, she was twice as strong as he was. "Probably the blood rushing when your Qi is activated causes it."
He began to shake his hand to free it, but Emily's grip was tight. She wouldn't even let his hand move. Just a mere demonstration of her own abilities. It wasn't bad to show off every now and then, right? But he was way, way heavier than she was. Of course she would still be pushed back.
That was until she was now officially pinned against the wooden wall. "All we need is a bag of marshmallows, chocolate, and graham crackers, and we're good to go, I'll even roast the marshmallows for you."
Emily was wearing, of all things, that yellow dress that she had from back before she became a pillar at 259. Yes, that yellow, spaghetti strap dress that she wore when she practiced ballet. "I don't like sweets all that much. I'll pass on the chocolate." She said, smirking still. "If you don't stop your Qi, we'll burn your dojo down..."
He's gonna see a really good sight if he looks down. ;D

"Gray, huh?" He heard her say before he pushed up against her, sending her skidding backwards, since he was a lot heavier than her, but she was for the most part, fine, which Ryuu was grateful for, he wasn't aiming to hurt her, after all, this spar they were having was training, and besides, she was twice as strong as he was. "Yes, both my sister and father have gray eyes, all the Hikari's have the same eye color." Ryuu replied, as he continued to send her backwards. "Probably the blood rushing when your Qi is activated causes it." "Probably, I never really understood why it happened, all I know is, it happens every single time without fail." He then shook his hand to try and free it, but Emily's grip was tight, his hand couldn't even move currently. She was strong, and that, Ryuu was impressed with. But he was heavier, hence the ability for him to push her back until he managed to pin her against the wooden wall.
And because they were in such close proximity, Emily would be able to feel Ryuu's muscles through the loose karate top he was wearing. Likewise, if Ryuu looked down, because Emily was wearing a yellow spaghetti strap dress, he would be able to see her cleavage. But Ryuu was focused on Emily, not on what she was wearing, so he never actually bothered to look down and get distracted by the sight. "I don't like sweets all that much. I'll pass on the chocolate." "Sure, I don't have any here anyways." Ryuu replied as he continued to smirk back at her, his smirk matching her smirk. "If you don't stop your Qi, we'll burn your dojo down..." "Heh, well let go of my hand, and I'll gladly stop my Qi." He replied, as he proceeded to hook his right foot behind Emily's leg, and yanked her forward, attempting to trip her.
Unfortunately, because Ryuu was so intensely focused on this move, he forgot that his fist was still in Emily's grip, so the minute she was sent pitching forward, he would be sent falling backwards, becoming a human cushion for her. *THUMP!* "... oww..." Ryuu said, as he raised his head up and looked at Emily. "Are you okay? Because my head is killing me right now... and my tailbone hurts."

Now he was playing coy with her, as if this was like a battle of his charisma and her own. He told her to let go of his hand, but Emily said: "It's either the dojo or the fight, Ryuu. You have to pick one."
Emily laughed, and she was so drawn onto Ryuu at the moment that she didn't notice his leg tripping her. She was sent forward, and so was Ryuu. They landed on the floor, Emily above the japanese boy. This wasn't exactly the kind of training Emily had in mind. "Are you okay? Because my head is killing me right now... and my tailbone hurts."
Emily looked away, hiding a blush with her hair and stood up promptly. "I-I'm fine." she said, distancing herself. Such a situation with a boy who already has a relationship with someone was not proper, and if anything -- Emily was a girl who always tried her best to deal with proper decorum, things like that rarely existed in the minds of those born in this age. She then offered him a hand, her eyes averting his -- a little embarrassed. "...I've taught you all I can, or at least, for now."

"It's either the dojo or the fight, Ryuu. You have to pick one." "You're not giving me much of a choice," Ryuu laughed, "Can't it be both? It can't!? Damn..." He then pretended to pout, before grinning as he heard Emily laugh. He then proceeded to trip her, it seemed she did not notice his movement, possibly because the two of them were having a battle of charisma, his charisma against hers. So far, hers was winning. The two of them landed on the floor with a loud thump, Ryuu ending up a human cushion for Emily, who was above him. This wasn't exactly what he had in mind for training. He saw her look away and promptly stand up. The only good thing about this? His hand was now free, as he deactivated his Qi, and immediately began shivering, his eyes turning back to gray. "I-I'm fine." "Th...that's good." He chattered as he sat up and shivered on the floor, as she distanced herself from him. The situation had been intensely awkward, since Ryuu already had a girlfriend, Emi.
He'd have to be a lot more careful, and he didn't want to make Emily more nervous than she already was right now. "Sss... sorry ab...about that. I didn't... mean for that to happen." He then took her hand when she offered it to him, her eyes averted from his, as he stood up, shivering away. "...I've taught you all I can, or at least, for now." "Rrrr... right," He replied, "J... just like I promised... I'll teach y...you kenjutsu." He then turned and began to walk to the back, but didn't make it, as he collapsed on his knees, still shivering away. "O...okay, maybe I need t...to take a rest before... starting the lesson." Such was a side effect of his Qi, the minute he stopped using it, he ended up shivering like mad. He tried to stand up once more, but just ended up collapsing again, this time on his side. "... g...great..." He looked like an idiot in front of Emily, shivering away on the floor, unable to get up yet.

Emily was a nurse by vocation, and if anything -- she knew what was happening to Ryuu. His body seemed to be compensating for the intense amount of heat that he had just produced. Luckily for Emily, being warm was natural for her. It was an anomaly she had been 'gifted' with ever since birth. Emily was always febrile, and it never really meant she was sick or anything. She grabbed his hand firmly, noting immediately how cold he felt in comparison to a few moments ago.
She was always, always warm. Almost as if she was sick, but she wasn't.
"It's alright, Ryuu."
"J... just like I promised... I'll teach y...you kenjutsu." He attempted to walk, but he was weak.
"You're cold."
"O...okay, maybe I need t...to take a rest before... starting the lesson." He said that before he tried to stand up again, only to fail and land on his side. . "... g...great..."
Emily just smiled and took him by the back, letting him lie by her lap. She was naturally warm, and being close to her like this would give him a significant amount of warmth to help him recover quickly. She quickly took both her opera gloves off her arms, revealing to him her heavily scarred left arm as she wrapped it around his hands. She had hoped that the glove's resistance to temperatures would help in insulating him and keep his body heat in.
"You don't have to teach me right away, not in your condition at least." She told him, "If anything, you should avoid using your Qi."
Yeah, like her. Her eyes were slightly blurry now.

Grasping her hand firmly, well as firmly as he possibly could while shivering away like a newborn puppy, the warmth from her hand was a welcomed feeling for him. If he wasn't so cold from the usage of his Qi, he would've noticed that her body temperature would be warmer than normal. But because he was shivering, her higher than normal warmth was greatly appreciated. "It's alright, Ryuu." "O...okay..." He replied, as he attempted to walk, though he was weak from his body trying to compensate and bring his body temperature back up to normal. "You're cold." "I...I'll b...be fine," He chattered out, before ending up collapsing twice, the second time ending up lying on his side, unable to move. "... O...okay, maybe not..." He then felt Emily take him by the back, letting him lie by her lap, as she tried to warm him up while he shivered away. Because he was lying so close to her, her body heat would help him recover faster and get his body temperature back up to normal, allowing him to get up.
Staring up at her, he then saw her take off the black opera gloves she was wearing, revealing her heavily scarred left arm, as his eyes flashed briefly in surprise at it, before returning back to normal, as she wrapped them around his hands, he was starting to get better, he wasn't shivering as intensely as before, but still shivering nonetheless, and his teeth had stopped chattering. "You don't have to teach me right away, not in your condition at least. If anything, you should avoid using your Qi." "You... too," He said softly, staring up at her, "I don't know what your Qi is, but whatever it is, don't overdo it. We don't need two incapacitated teenagers lying unconscious on the floor." He laughed quietly, as he stayed lying down. After a few minutes, he could finally feel feeling in his hands and legs, and slowly sat up, struggling slightly, but finally managed to sit up. His body was still slightly cold, but nothing that a bit of movement wouldn't cure. He rested his arms on his legs that were bent, waiting before he could finally stand up, once he felt ready, he attempted to stand up, pitching forward slightly before catching himself, waiting a few minutes, before managing to stay standing.
Unwrapping the opera gloves, he then held them out to Emily for her to take, before turning and heading to the back, disappearing inside before coming back out with two black bokuto's in his hands. "Here," He said, tossing one to Emily, "Let's start, if you would, stand up please." Once she stood up, he would begin. "Kenjutsu, it's generally a term used to describe any martial art technique that makes use of the Japanese sword. It includes basic techniques without any opponent, and techniques where two people paired practice detailed choreographed patterns of movements, featuring full contact strikes in some styles. The bokuto, like your metal fans, can be used offensively and defensively, and while not as heavy, still requires quite a bit of strength and flexibility to use." His lecture done, Ryuu would then stand in front of her, spaced apart, holding the bokuto in front of him, his body temperature back to normal now. "Now, try and strike me." He said, as he rushed forward, holding the bokuto above his head.
His footwork extremely choreographed, once getting with range, would bring the wooden sword down at an angle, attempting to land a blow on Emily's shoulder, a look of shear concentration on his face, he wasn't out to injure Emily, all he really was doing was trying to get her to defend against his strike. Kenjutsu, was much like a dance, the movements perfectly coordinated and choreographed, each strike flowing with the other.
(OOC: Hehe, I took Emily's rank-up virginity. XD)

Emily stood up as instructed and gripped the Bokuto that was handed to her. She hadn't bothered putting her gloves back on and if anything, there was nothing to hide. Ryuu had already seen the reason why she kept these gloves on and hiding it any further would've been useless. After a short lecture, he then told her to strike at him.
Two hands on the wooden sword, Emily nodded and rushed forward at full speed. She would then try to plant her foot hard onto the ground as she approached half-a-meter away from Ryuu and bent her knee, sending her forward, but not at a dangerous range. Her idea was to try and hit his sternum hard, to force him to choke out some of his air, thus, removing some of his energy. Despite this, though -- she didn't use much strength, careful not to hurt Ryuu critically.

Closely watching Emily, Ryuu saw her nod at him before rushing at him, both of her hands on the wooden sword, she hadn't bothered to put her gloves back on, which Ryuu understood why, he had already seen what had been hidden under the gloves, all the scars, putting them back on would be pointless. Emily was definitely faster than Ryuu in all prospective, and he knew it. Nonetheless, he would give this all he had, he wouldn't be a very good teacher if he went easy on her, especially when he was trying to teach her. As soon as she was about half a meter away from him, he saw her plant her foot hard on the ground and bend her knee, sending her forward, as he brought his bokuto up in front of him, attempting to gauge the target she was trying to aim for. His eyes focused on her intensely, he was concentrating, though he did allow a slightly mischievous grin to appear on his face.
Say what you will, but he was having fun with Emily, the two of them teaching and sparring with each other like this. He barely managed to react to her strike, she was aiming for his sternum, and while he did manage to block it, he did have a bit of the wind knocked out of him from the blow. "N...not bad..." He managed to say, the mischievous grin still on his face, his bokuto positioned horizontally up against his chest, his left hand open and pressed up against the part of the wooden sword facing him. Using the strength he had, he would then thrust his arms forward and straighten them out, attempting to send Emily backwards, before holding his own bokuto in his right hand and rushed forward, his run at a controlled speed, allowing him to change directions or evade without too much of a delay. He would then stretch his left hand out, and gripping the handle of the bokuto, once he reached Emily, he would swing his bokuto out in a tight arc, aiming to strike at her side, not hard mind you, they were just training with each other. Besides, he knew she would be able to react to his strike.
She had reacted to, if not all of his previous strikes beforehand.

After a somewhat "successful" attempt at ridding Ryuu of his breathing pace he quickly pushed her back. She was sent back, though fortunately still had balance because of the nature of the current stance Emily was on. Her feet were of a distance apart and this created for her a greater center of gravity, thus increasing her balance.
She was pushed back, but she was still pretty much fine. He seemed to be know a lot about this marial art -- but Emily was good with improvising. She had a wooden sword herself. What could she do with this to defend herself - especially now that he seemed to be hitting her side, or at least somewhere along that area. Things were moving along quickly, but they had a decent distance apart.
She would move her hands to parry his attack by having her bokuto hit Ryuu's own in a parallel fashion. Should it work, Emily would move closer as many sword-type fighting styles have limited moves over extremely close range. That's what she observed anyway.
"Am I doing well, sensei?"

Just as Ryuu expected, right after he had pushed Emily back slightly, she managed to parry his attack by having her own bokuto parallel with his own, countering his strike. He then saw her move close, which was a good move, seeing as many fighting styles that use swords have limited moves when it came to close range. "Am I doing well, sensei?" Now she was just teasing him. He had called her sensei when they had started, and now she was doing the same to him. "Why yes my student," He replied back, grinning slightly, "You are doing most splendidly."
With their bokuto's now locked against each other, Ryuu would then relinquish the pressure he had placed against Emily's bokuto, and in a quick, fluid motion, would swing the bokuto in a small half-circle, aiming to try and knock Emily's bokuto out of her hands, or if that did not succeed, at the very least, inflict some shock to her arms from the quick but relatively strong blow. His bokuto now above his head, he would then strafe backwards, putting some distance in between the both of them. "Heh." Was all he would say, as he held his bokuto in his right hand, his legs spread apart, his center of balance good, and raising his left hand, the back of his hand facing Emily, he would do the universal gesture for, "Bring it on," a smirk on his face.

"You sound like an old man." Emily chuckled, before Ryuu rapped at her hand. In surprise, she dropped the bokuto and laughed. "You caught me there."
After she had returned to her starting point, he taunted her by giving her a gesture. Emily chuckled and let the bokuto on the floor before took something from her pocket and tied her hair up with it. Hair can be such a nuisance at times. "You're such a tease. You know that?"
Emily then sped forward, bokuto above her head as she aimed to hit him hard by the right shoulder. Simple enough, but hey, she 's just new to this.
