Words Are Worthless (Adrian)

[Kate]

She had been sitting in first period, minding her own business without paying too much attention to Damien on the damned screen. At least until her name came up. The those emerald eyes swiveled over to the tv faster than a race horse could move. She sat up, and listened, just as the rest of the class got silent. The ending part being a photo chopped pictured of her. Everyone in the class was staring at her, and on the inside she was hurting. Damien had purposely hurt her, breaking yet another promise he had made.

"Tell a guy no, and he has to prove you're a whore."

There was smile on her lips as she looked around the classroom. Kate seemed perfectly at ease, and calm. Everyone laughed and went back to life. She however, was coiled on the inside. As soon as class was over the blonde left, and wasn't headed in the direction of her next class. She had to get away from everyone. Had to get away from it all.

The classroom she had met Adrian in should be empty at this time of day. No classes, no teacher, just being alone. People were staring at her in the hallway. They had watched Damien's little thing.

Kate slammed the door open and stalked inside to slam it behind her. Damien. Why? She had just been honest with him. Bluntly so, but honest. Why did he have to do this to her? Why did it hurt so much?? Why did he have to be a BASTARD?!?!?!?!

No excuses about split personas and all that shit. Bastard was done in her books. Done and dead to her. She looked up as the door opened, wondering who the hell was coming in here. She'd kill them too.

[Adrian]

Adrian burst through the door, his eyes glaring at Kate, just as hers glared at his. He didn't quite know if he'd find her here or not, in fact, it was simply a whim of his that he would. Just like her, he'd seen the video. Just like her, he'd heard her words. Even as he listened, Adrian wondered, albeit briefly, if Jester had carried a tape recorder when he spoke to him all that time ago at the restaurant. However, it didn't matter, that wasn't his voice turned up on the Weekly Whammy, it was Kate's.

Mathew...

Adrian shook his head, remembering what she had said at the Outback all those weeks ago.

~"To be honest, until I met you I had him pegged for..."~

She had shut up pretty quickly, and Adrian didn't put the dots together until today. She out and said it, right there. And, speaking of Kate, here she was. Standing in this room as well. Neither of the two blonde-headed rich kids seemed to much care for seeing the other at this point. Adrian would be the first to speak.

"Kate, what the FUCK?!"

[Kate]

It was Adrian, and for a moment Kate's guard was down. It was Adrian, she'd be okay. Everything would be fine. It didn't matter what the rest of the world thought, it didn't matter what Damien had said, none of it mattered. Adrian would make everything all better, like he always did. He was mad at Damien for that, not--

And then he spoke, and there were waves of pain. She had even started to smile, and the look just fell completely off her face. Startled emerald eyes, she was caught off guard.

Never gunna let you down, never gunna run around, never going to desert you.

He was mad at her. Very mad at her. Kate just looked at him, unable to say anything in that moment. Too confused, too hurt to say or do anything. Then she regained her normal composure and looked at him calmly, hiding the pain within her.

Adrian was to be added to the list then. Of people who had hurt her. Men were stupid. Maybe she should date girls.

"What? What the fuck what Adrian Hanlon?"

She felt like crying. Felt like honest to god, spilling her tears for a second time in front of him. But Kate wouldn't do that. He didn't deserve her tears if he got mad about that shit.

[Adrian]

"What do you mean, 'what'?! You saw that asshat's video the same as I did, I assume! Otherwise you wouldn't have come in here to escape like you did!"

Adrian may not be the smartest, but even he could hit a nail on the head sometimes. His countenance softend, but only somewhat. Had this been any other girl, any other, Adrian would have no qualms about letting them have it. Kate, however, just did something to Adrian. Even when she was firing fury right back at him as she was trying to do, he couldn't stay mad for too long.

He stepped forward, closing the distance between the two. "I... I'm... look, Kate, what, just what did you mean in that recording?"

Adrian blinked a few times. Beneath his angry outer exterior, he was just as hurt as Kate was. She would have no way of understanding, considering she knew full well the context of that recording, whereas Adrian could not. For all he knew, it had been taken down only days ago, if not earlier that very day. He frowned, a lot of the anger draining from his face in that moment.

"Please..."

There was no other words, no seeming meaning behind it. It was just all the boy could finish with at the moment.

[Kate]

He softened, she didn't. Kate looked at him, her emerald eyes calm. That was one thing that Kate had in the bag. She had been hurt so many times before by guys.

"Of course I saw Damien's stupid video. You tell a man no, you won't be with him, you be honest and truthful because you think you owe him something, and because he was scorned he does this. I haven't seen Damien since the day I saw him, weeks before I even met you."

She turned, not wanting to look at him. Not looking at Adrian was a very good thing at this moment. Kate felt like she was going to give. Going to cry. Going to run over and throw herself in his arms and cry. Kate McHallin wasn't going to do that a second time. She stared at the wall, cold as ice.

"Weeks Adrian. He's trying to paint me a whore, because I told him he'd have to work at it if he wanted me. Because of what he did. Because it was hard to touch him and not think of the girls he raped. Even if it was his damned-all-split personality. I didn't believe him then, and I don't now. But I loved him. I... loved him. I gave my heart to him... and I wasn't enough for him..."

[Adrian]

As Kate turned, spilling her story and the truth behind the words she had spoken, Adrian's frown would only get larger and larger as he realized exactly how big of a douche he had been. The thought of her lying about all this had never even once crossed Adrian's mind. It wasn't so much that he could tell a lie from the truth in someone's voice, and only really a little bit more so that he just honestly believed Kate. The greatest reason the boy believed her words was, in the end, he just really really wanted them to be true.

When she finished, Adrian let out a little sigh, and took a few steps towards Kate. He was afraid to do much, however. What he wanted to do was run up, scoop her in his arms, and tell her everything was going to be okay. WHat he did do, unfortunately, was a lot less forward and inspiring.

"Look, Kate, I... I'm sorry. I saw the footage and... I guess I overreacted. I mean, I just didn't know what to think, and I wanted to talk to you, but when I saw you, it just came out all wrong.... I'm sorry..."

Adrian slowly walked toward her, not trying to be threatening, his arms outstretched to give her a hug when he got close enough.

[Kate]

Kate didn't move even as he moved toward her. As he spoke, and apologized. Adrian knew how she felt about apologies. She looked up at him, at Adrian Hanlon. They had met in this room, probably just about a month before hand. They had seen each other several times within that month. Kate had fallen for him, even if she hadn't spoken it. She really liked this boy, and it made her feel vulnerable.

"Didn't know what to think Adrian?"

Well it was true. How could he think straight, when she hadn't said anything to let him know how she felt. Teases, kisses, laughter... none of that expressed how she felt the same way words could. Stupid words.

Kate moved, away from him. Backing until her back was pressed to the cold wall behind her. Those emerald eyes locked onto Adrian. She wanted to say it. Wanted to just get it out of her so he could hear.

"Then I'll tell you what to think. I said that when I hadn't fallen for anyone else. I said that when things were all fun and games, and I hadn't gotten attached to anyone. I said that before I met you. I said that... before I fell for you..."

[Adrian]

So there it was. Kate told Adrian exactly what to think. Which was good, because, as a guy, Adrian wasn't the best at thinking for himself, supposedly. Adrian paused when she backed herself against the wall, feeling that advancing on her at that point would feel nothing short of threatening. So, when she spoke, Adrian was still a few paces away from her. When she told him exactly what she felt, that she'd fallen for him, Adrian's sour frown rose up, slightly, into a slight half-smile. He was still too wracked with guilt to feel truly happy over anything, but the fact that she admitted to having fallen for him... well, it was a perfect cherry to a rather sour sundae.

He shook his head, looking down at the floor, a tinge of red coming to his cheeks, much to his dismay. Looking back up toward her, Adrian could only shake his head again, that same little smile stuck on his face.

"Fell for me, huh?" Adrian would approach the subject gingerly, quietly at first. "That's... good to hear. Otherwise I... I'd be stuck having all these feelings that weren't reciprocated... ya know?"

Adrian's smile widened, more or less explaining his feelings to the girl as well, even if he had made himself slightly more obvious during their month together than she had. He took a step forward, halving the distance between them, his arms going wide again to hold her, but he didn't quite go the full way. It seemed he wanted Kate to meet him halfway.

"Warms my heart... ya know?"

[Kate]

He was babbling, and blushing. When he blushed he was cute, and Kate loved it. The pale girl didn't move from her spot even when he walked forward, his arms open. She wanted to leap in his damned arms, but she was holding herself back. Why? Kate didn't even know why she was doing this. She swallowed a big gasp of air, and let it out slowly.

IF she walked to him, she was letting him know he won.
IF she walked to him, she was saying that she was his.
IF she walked to him, she was once again trusting a guy.
IF she walked to him, she was opening her heart again.

"Ask me properly Adrian..."

Her voice was quiet, but considering the two of them were the only ones in the room, he should hear it well enough. Those emerald eyes were large, and hurt. Not because of him, but because she was battling through her past. Through this fucking morning and everything that had happened. And she was waiting for him to ask her properly to be his girl.

[Adrian]

Kate hesitated to enter his embrace, and in that split-second, Adrian's smile dipped somewhat. Was she deciding against her feelings? Adrian was aware of her troubled past, but, even so, she had admitted her feelings for him, it seemed like it was just too late to turn back now. And yet, here she was, holding back. Until she asked, four words to choke upon, and Adrian blinked. Despite his somewhat oafish nature sometimes, he understood what she was asking. She was an old-fashioned girl at heart, and he was an old-fashioned guy. His smile grew back to its regular size, and he shook his head, not denying her request, but just to make sure everything he was feeling, seeing and hearing was actually real.

"Kate..." he began, trying to find the words to ask her as best he could, "Would you find it in your heart, if you pleased, to forgive me for all the stupid shit I've done already, and be my girlfriend?"

He smiled, and held his hands out a little farther. Here it was, all or nothing. It was go time, and Adrian just hoped she would accept him as he was.

[Kate]

This morning her own voice had blasted from tvs all around the school stating she wasn't looking for a relationship. And when she had said that, it had been true. But Adrian had changed everything for Kate McHallin. She could put all the blame on him rather happily.

So Kate pushed off from the wall and walked the few steps forward to where he was waiting for her. She reached him, and wrapped her arms around his chest. Her face pressed into the crook of his neck, and those emerald eyes shut.

"Yes."

That was all she needed to say. That was all she wanted to say. All she could say. Her heart was beating so fast, like it was going to pop out of her chest with the way it was going. He would probably feel it with how she was pressing herself into his body. Like she would never let go. They were dating. Adrian Hanlon was her boyfriend. Kate McHallin was his girlfriend. She was blushing bright red, despite how world worn Kate McHallin was.

[Adrian]

Her arms met Adrian's body, and his wrapped around hers in kind, locking each other into a deep embrace. She rested her head against his neck and shoulder, and he let his chin fall down on the top of her head lightly. Her answer was more than sufficient, and the big goofy grin on his face would show that, if she were able to see.

They held each other for what felt like an eternity, just enjoying the presence of each other in their arms. Here in this classroom, where the two first met, where the two first fought, and now, where the two first became boyfriend and girlfriend. Adrian never really expected something like this to happen, especially not considering his own usual way with girls. Regardless, Adrian would give that little contented sigh he seemed to always have around Kate.

"Y'know what?" he would say finally, speaking into the silence. "... fuck that Jester guy."

Adrian would smirk. He would have to deal with him sooner or later, even if Damien was a Pillar and much stronger than Adrian.

[Kate]

Everything was perfect in that moment. Her world was secure and fine right then. She was being held by her boyfriend, her man, the one who had her heart now, and everything in the world was right as rain. That is, until he spoke about Jester. Her body tensed. He just had to talk about the one person, the one thing that would ruin it all. She sighed into the fabric of his shirt and scowled. One hand moved and clapped him on the back rather hard.

"Adrian, not exactly the topic I'd like to talk about darling."

Maybe he would understand. He damn well better understand. But he was a guy, and all guys really didn't understand things like that. She leaned back for a second with a slight little smile on those full lips of hers.

"In fact, how about we don't talk at all?"

The blonde leaned back into him, moving so she was on her tip toes. He was taller than her for sure, something that Kate like. She pressed her lips to his in a way that was not soft or sweet. It was passionate, and would hopefully get his mind of the topic he had been speaking on.

[Adrian]

Kate smacked him, not particularly hard, but hard enough to know he screwed up. She told him she'd rather not speak at all, and Adrian was just about to say something in acquiescance, when her lips met his in a passionate kiss. His eyes went wide, he always seemed to be surprised when she suddenly kissed him like that, but soon thereafter closed as he let himself fall into the kiss, so to speak, returning the passion to her tenfold.

They were sharing their first kiss as a couple.

Fully content with not thinking about Jester, or really, anything else at the time, Adrian simply lost himself in the kiss. They had kissed before, certainly, but it was nothing like this, even at their best. Something about their now-official relationship served only to reinforce the passion and feeling behind it.

He continued to kiss her, not really wanting it to ever end.

[Kate]

Kissing Adrian was wonderful, and Kate could live the rest of her life doing what she was doing right now. Well, maybe a bit more than kissing, or a lot more than kissing, but for now this was fine. Kate still was in a mind to with hold that part of the situation back. Toying with Adrian more, in that way. She pulled back from the kiss with a bit of laughter.

"Adrian..."

She spoke his name quietly, softly, sweetly. She was so warm in that moment. She was brimming with these warm emotions and feelings for Adrian. Kate was loving it. This morning? It wasn't even a thought in her head. She didn't care about what the school thought, or what Damien had done. Kate didn't care in the least bit about anything but what was happening in this room.

Another chuckle. This was a side of Kate that he had never seen before. That only a few people had. This Kate was trusting, warm, and soft in a way she hadn't been before.
