James got out of the shower, getting dressed in a pair of jeans, a pair of old tattered Chucks, a plain black t-shirt and a blue button up shirt over that. He put his eye patch back on after showering, and then ruffled his hair a bit since it was still wet. He ran his fingers through his hair in an attempt to pull it back some so that when it dried it would look nice without using gel or anything like that. It was how he did his hair, since it was thick enough it didn't really need gel at this length.
"Alright, now all I have to do is be witty charming and interesting for an entire evening..." He said to himself as he headed out. He grabbed his brown leather jacket, putting it on since it was a bit later and the sun wasn't high in the sky. He had lived in Cali all of his life, and it wasn't like the heat was a major thing for him anyway.
He grabbed his phone and texted Sam. He would have called her, but on the off chance that she was dancing at the moment he didn't want to be a major distraction or anything. He texted her asking if she still wanted to meet up, and if so to meet up outside the diner he was on his way to. They weren't going to go into the diner or anything, but there was an ice cream place not too far from there, and it was an easier place to meet up since it was on one of the major intersections.
So James made his way there, and when he got outside the diner he took a seat on a bench, waiting for Sam to show up.
"Ok, James. Be witty, be charming, and most importantly be funny. Not funny weird, but funny 'ha-ha'. And even more so important... stop talking to yourself." He said, looking around before shutting up and waiting for her to reply or show up.

Sam didn't get James' text message for about 5 minutes. Her tap class was just finishing up, and her phone was on silent. As soon as the teacher excused them, she made her way back to where she'd set her stuff down, face flushed and hair messy, to check her phone for missed calls.
She saw James' message and her heart skipped a beat. A fellow student looked over and asked her what she was so giddy about. "It's a boy, I bet, with that look," the girl teased. Sam didn't even know she'd been smiling.
Sam read the text again, and realized that the diner he'd mentioned was actually very close to where she was right now. So her dilemma was to go home, get changed, and then come all the way back, or just to go with the dancer look she was currently sporting -pink tights and black spaghetti-strap leotard (typical ballet fare) along with black booty shorts (so named because that's about all they covered) and leg warmers. She did have a pair of jeans in her bag, and a pair of forest green Converse... and she couldn't make him wait, could she? Another big part of it, of course, was that she didn't want to wait to see him, but she felt like she had to justify things for herself.
She shot James a quick text saying she'd be there in 10. She threw on her jeans and a dark green zip-up sweater over her tights and leotard, and ran into the bathroom to wash her face and brush her hair out in an attempt to make it look like she hadn't just done an hour and a half of sweaty cardio. She grabbed her bag and practically flew out the door. The diner was a couple of blocks up the street, and she took it at a jog.
She slowed down when she caught sight of James waiting on the bench. The butterflies flew into her stomach at full speed, catching her by surprise and making her breath catch. She didn't think he'd seen her yet, so she took a moment to push her hair back behind her ears and try to calm the butterflies. The hair worked. The butterflies didn't.
"All right," she whispered. "I'm not going to make a fool of myself. I'm not." She took a deep breath, unable to hold back the smile, and walked to him.
"Hey," she said. "How've you been?" If he stood up she'd give him a hug; if he didn't, she'd sit down next to him and give him one. She wanted to kiss him again - really wanted to - but she didn't know if she should or not. Or if it was appropriate. Or if he even wanted to. But he said he did, right? And he asked her to come here, right? Her mind was going in circles.

"Hey, How've you been?" James got up and she hugged him, he hugged her back, and when he pulled away he couldn't help but remember earlier that day. It was like as soon as he saw her that was all he could think about, but he didn't want to seem like a complete horn dog by admitting that he'd want nothing more then an on the spot smooch-a-thon with her. Not that he would ever use that term. He noticed what she was wearing, and he could tell that she had been working out but she still managed to look great. He didn't know how girls did that, guys somehow couldn't do that from what James could tell. The furthest he got to being able to bounce back from a work out was an axe shower followed by washing his hair out with water so it wasn't greasy.
"You know, same old same old," He said, when he broke from the hug he left his right arm around her shoulders. He hoped that she didn't mind this, and he nodded towards the ice cream stand down the way, "So you want to go get some ice cream? I'm guessing you could use something cold and sugary-sweet after dance practice. I know I could go for something sweet."
Yeah because that doesn't sound like your about to segue into some corny pick up line....
"Oh and how was your day?" He said suddenly realizing he didn't exactly ask her how she was doing. If she said yes to the ice cream thing he would walk with her towards the place. He wanted to look like anything but a cheap loser so he made sure before hand that he went to an ATM right after school so he had plenty of cash on hand if she wanted to go some place to eat or see a movie, or even if she saw something in a shop she liked. No matter what, he was prepared. He wanted her to have a good time, now if only he could relax a little and slow his heart beat....

Sam was cursing inside. No kiss? Damn. She was disappointed. It didn't help her racing mind and speeding heart, especially since as he pulled away from the hug, he left his right arm on her shoulder. That was definitely a consolation. A nice consolation. She tilted her head against his shoulder for a moment, just enjoying his touch, before sliding her arm around his waist. Yeah, she could definitely get used to this.
He mentioned ice cream, and she looked up at him, mouth open and eyes wide. "Yeees,"she said emphatically. "Ice cream actually sounds amazing right now." It really did. A few hours of pretty intense exercise like the dance classes she'd just come from really messed with her body temperature, and ice cream would do wonders for her. Plus, as healthy as she tried to be, she had a weakness for sugary things, ice cream especially. "My dance studio is right down the street, which is why I look like crap right now." She motioned to her "sweaty dancer" look. Not that she was sweaty anymore, but she was sure it was fairly obvious that she recently had been.
"I didn't want to make you wait for me to go all the way home and come back. I wanted to see you." she blushed and turned her face away; she hadn't meant for that last bit to actually come out of her mouth. But there it was, whether she wanted it or not.
He asked her how her day was, and she took the opportunity to steer away from her embarrassment.
"Same old, same old," she said, using his answer with a playful grin. "School, bajillion hours of dance class, and then a lovely text message asking me to go for ice cream." Yeah, that text message made her day.

"Yeees, Ice cream actually sounds amazing right now." She said, and the cutest look came across her face. It was almost like seeing a Christmas tree light up. He was glad that he kept her on his right side, as opposed to the side that had an eye patch, he could see her a lot easier when he looked over, and his nose wasn't in the way, "My dance studio is right down the street, which is why I look like crap right now."
"Like crap?" He asked with a confused look on his face, his eye went up and down her body and he finally smiled and said, "I don't see it, all I'm getting here is beauty head to toe. And trust me, I've got an eye for detail. Sadly it's just the one though."
Then she mentioned how she wanted to see him, and his cheeks warmed up a bit as he walked her over to the ice cream place. Not to mention with her arm around his waist something just felt, right. His spine shivered a little in the cold, but it felt right even though it was a little chilling. Somewhere in that small chill he found comfort. His cheeks flushed a little, and he noticed she had turned away too. She went on about something, but he would stop walking, and turn towards her, "I wanted to see you too."
He didn't know why, he just felt like he should tell her. He'd raise his hands up to either side of her face, and plant a kiss on her. One that was short and sweet. Not some big major kiss or anything, just a shorter lasting one. After he'd pull away he'd put his right arm around her again and continue to walk her into the place, opening the door for her as they got in line.

Sam couldn't describe the ecstasy that flooded through her as James put his hands on her face and gave her a kiss. It was short enough that she didn't have time to really move, but it wasn't so short that it didn't leave her breathless afterwards.
And then his arm was around her and they were walking again, Sam with an insuppressibly giddy grin plastered on her face. He opened the door, and she nodded to him in acknowledgement. "Thank you," she said, that silly grin still plastered on her face. Quite the gentleman, she thought approvingly.
They got in line, and Sam began looking at her options. Ooh, there it was. Mint chocolate chip, her favorite. There were still a couple people in line ahead of them, so she looked up at James, still refusing to relinquish the position of her arm around his waist, at least for the moment.
"You know what you want yet? I found my favorite - mint chocolate chip." She used their height difference to her advantage - since she had to look up to see him, she just tilted her head a little more so it was resting on his shoulder. Man, that was comfortable. It just felt right.

She thanked him after he opened the door for her, and he couldn't help but feel proud of himself for thinking of it. James started looking at the different ice creams there were, and didn't quite decide on what he wanted. He didn't really have a particular favorite, "You know what you want yet? I found my favorite - mint chocolate chip."
"Actually I have no idea....." James said, looking at all the different kinds. They had rocky road, mint chocolate chip, cookie dough, and various other flavors. Finally they were next in line and James spoke up saying, "I'll have a waffle cone with... " Then he saw something that looked really good, it was called strawberry cheesecake. "two scoops of strawberry cheesecake..."
He turned over to Sam and smiled, waiting for her to order. Once she did he'd pay for the both of them, he had his wallet in his front jacket pocket, mostly because it was rather easy to pickpocket someone with one eye. Once he'd done that he'd ask her, "So do you want to walk around outside with these or would you rather find a place to sit like on a bench while we eat these? I imagine you must be tired after dancing..."

Sam ordered a scoop of mint chocolate chip in a sugar cone, and watched as they served up James' strawberry cheesecake. It did look good... She put on her best puppy eyes and looked up at him. "Can I try some...? I'll trade you!" She said, cuddling up to him. She was really playing up the cute card now - and not just so she could get to his ice cream. For her, it was how guys seemed to find her most attractive... and she really, really wanted him to find her attractive.
She pulled out her wallet to pay for the ice cream, and found that James had beat her to it. She pouted at him for a moment before putting her wallet away, realizing it was no use trying. "Thanks," she said, her face softening, and a smile playing over her features. She reached up on her tiptoes and gave him a kiss on the cheek before accepting her ice cream from the guy behind the counter.
She thought about his question for a moment. "Let's walk around," she said after a moment. "I'm actually not that tired. Tap dancing is a good workout, but it leaves you pumped and ready to run around for a bit longer before the exhaustion sets in." She'd also been serious about exploring the city with him; exploring new places was more fun with a partner. Not to mention safer. And she felt especially safe with James. She took a couple licks of her ice cream, making sure nothing was going to drip, and held it out to him, in case he wanted some. She had promised a trade.

James smiled when she gave him puppy dog eyes. It was something that was hard to do with two eyes. He had enough trouble trying to pull it off with just one sometimes. He considered having an eye patch with a drawn on puppy dog eye, but ultimately decided it would just be freaky looking the other ninety-nine percent of the time. But he smiled and said, "Haha, sure. If you change your mind we could always trade back too," He said. And instinctively wanted to wink but he had already used that joke with her before. And he knew that it was always best to let the good ones go once they've got their laugh.
He then paid for their cones, "Thanks," she said kissing his cheek. He blushed at this, and got a grin he couldn't quite get rid of. He wasn't so sure he wanted to hide his smile, so it was all good. He was too shy right then to say she was welcome or anything past a small chuckle, a wave of embarrassment coming over him. "Let's walk around, I'm actually not that tired. Tap dancing is a good workout, but it leaves you pumped and ready to run around for a bit longer before the exhaustion sets in."
"Sounds good," He said. She licked some of her ice cream and he took a lick of his own. It tasted extremely good, he was glad his eye caught that one. She held out her ice cream, and he took it, trading her with his own. He'd return his arm around her and walk her out of the shop, opening the door for her and heading down the street. Along the street was an arcade, a restaurant, a bar, various different stores, as well as other places that James had never really been to, but had passed by on the bus without giving them a second glance.
"So then," He'd say, leading her down the street that wasn't extremely busy, but had people out and about. It comforted James when there were still a lot of people out. Something about an empty public street sort of creeped him out, "Anything you'd like to check out?" He asked, as he walked her down the street. Taking a few licks of her mint chocolate chip ice cream. It was good, he could tell why it was her favorite flavor.

"Mmm, not yet," she said. "I'll drag you somewhere if I see something interesting." She took a few licks of James' strawberry cheesecake. Ooh, it was good... She blushed, clearing her throat awkwardly and embarrassedly handed it back to him. "Sorry... I'll stop stealing from you now." She held it back out to him.
Stealing his ice cream. Real cute. Very attractive.
Sam looked around, watching the stores as they walked by. An arcade... she hadn't been to one of those in a long while. That could be fun. A restaurant, a bar... She wasn't exactly hungry at the moment, and she was enjoying just walking around with him. They passed a vintage clothing store, and Sam gasped, turning to James with a gleeful grin.
"Oooh... let's see if we can't find you a fedora, Dr. Jones." If he thought her idea was as brilliant as she thought it was, she'd pull away from him slightly, grabbing the hand that used to be around her shoulders so she could tug on it and lead drag him inside.

She handed back his ice cream and he smiled handing hers back to her, "Heh, if you want more of it just ask me. Really I don't mind sharing with you," James said. He grinned at incredibly cute she was, it was driving him crazy inside. He was glad the date was on a good start but didn't think much of it to prevent himself from jinxing it. After passing by a few places she finally found one, gasping and turning towards him.
"Oooh... let's see if we can't find you a fedora, Dr. Jones." She said, grabbing his hand and pulling him into the shop. He was pretty blindsided with just how much she wanted to be in the place to find him a hat, but when they got inside of the place he looked around and decided it wasn't all that bad. It was a whole bunch of old clothes, old clothes that were probably considered trendy since they've been out of style for at least 20 or so years by the looks of it. James couldn't argue with wearing used clothes, they tended to be cheaper, and you could find some really interesting, although sometimes quite horrific, things.
For instance some of the 70's disco shirts he saw on a rack when they walked in, which he raised an eye brow to. It was one of the things he could still do that was eye related. He looked around the store, seeing plenty of old clothes, but he didn't see hats right away. But he did see some old belt buckles and t-shirts, "Wow, I've never been inside this place.... pretty cool..." He said, seeing the hats, "Oh, hats over there!"
He didn't know why he was helping her find the hats, he could see from where he was that the majority of them were very silly looking. Still, he'd end up trying on whatever she asked him too, letting her dress him up however she wanted. After all, someone with two eyes must have a better eye for fashion then him.

Sam was glad he didn't seem to mind her dragging him everywhere. She tended to get... overzealous sometimes, and she hoped he wouldn't get scared off or anything. She giggled as they walked in, eying the odd assortment of clothes, only some of which had been around long enough to be stylish again.
He found the hats, and she looked where he was pointing. She wrinkled her nose and laughed. "I don't know if they're gonna have anything good here," she said. "Everything looks so outrageous!" But she kept a firm grasp on his hand, adjusting her fingers so they interlaced with his, as they made their way over to the assortment of strange headwear.
"Come on, handsome," she said, turning to him. "I'll make you a deal - you find something you want to see me in, and I'll find something I want to see you in. Hat or otherwise." She grinned up at him, and got a sudden urge to pull him close and just kiss him, right there in the middle of the shop. But something told her it might not be the most appropriate thing to do in the middle of a clothing store, so she settled for reaching up and pulling him down a little bit so she could give him a small peck on his lips. Just doing that sent warm chills down her spine, and set the butterflies flapping in her stomach again.
"Sound fair?" She asked as she pulled away, her eyes sparkling.

(OOC: Sorry for the wait.)
"I don't know if they're gonna have anything good here. Everything looks so outrageous!" She said, wrinkling her nose in a very cute way. They were holding hands, fingers interlaced now, and he liked it. It just seemed right to be holding her hand, "Come on, handsome, I'll make you a deal - you find something you want to see me in, and I'll find something I want to see you in. Hat or otherwise."
Heh... she called me handsome....
She pulled him down and pecked him on the lips. It was just unbelievably amazing. Someone being this nice to him, "Sound fair?" She asked, a grin appearing on his face when she broke away from the peck.
"Sure," He said, "Sounds like something I can do..." He looked around, "Now let's see.... what silly little thing could I possibly-- oh it's too perfect." He said reaching up with his free hand and grabbing a bright yellow boonie hat with a flower patch on the front, he held it in front of his face, flower patch facing her, "This one, would look absolutely great on you."
An almost devilish grin appeared on his face. The thing was slightly kiddish and ridiculous. But somehow she would probably pull it off and make it look adorably cute with that smile of hers.

((OOC: I'm sorry too >.<))
Sam's eyes widened, and she laughed. "I suppose I asked for that one, didn't I?" She took the hat from him, made sure the flower as facing front, and confidently placed it on her head. "Well?" She asked, her hands on her hips and her chest thrown proudly out. "How do I look?" she barely waited half a second for a reaction from him before a giddy, childlike grin appeared over her face and she grabbed his hand, taking him through the store looking for something to return the favor with.
She walked up and down the aisles, James in tow, her ice cream still in her other hand. She'd spot something on a rack and look ack at James, contemplating him for a moment as she licked her ice cream. Then her brow would furrow, she'd shake her head, and continue on down the aisle. And boy, was she having fun. Te last time she'd had so much fun with a guy was... with Mathew, she realized. But that was different. Mathew was daring, adventurous... but James. James was... sweet, and strong, and gentle. The kind of person she could fall asleep with, and simply feel safe. And she liked that.
Then she spotted something intriguing. She pulled it off the rack and handed it to him - a shimmering purple disco shirt, open almost all the way to the belly button. She giggled deviously. This would SO pay him back for the hat she was wearing.
She smirked at him. "There's changing rooms over there," she pointed to a couple of curtained off corners, "or you can just change right here." She was being a little more forward than she usually would... but James with more bare chest was definitely something she wanted to see.

"Well? How do I look?" She asked.
"Beautiful," He said without hesitation, and she had a very nice smile on her. One that showed she was having fun. She looked cute and confident. She pulled off the cute girl look quite well, but still she simply looked beautiful to him. No matter what she was wearing. And when she stuck her chest out that way a part of his male mind went crazy. A flash image of the whole glasses and hair in bun sitting on the desk scenario came to mind but he put it out of thought as she took him up and down rows of clothing. Then she found something.
Oh god look at that thing.....
she held up this purple shirt with a long opening. He was screwed if he put this thing on, "There's changing rooms over there, or you can just change right here." He grabbed the shirt and thought about it.
If I.... If I change elsewhere she might be offended... but if I change here she'll see my scars... and my tattoo, but she'll see them anyway since the shirts... so revealing....
"Oh you so win this round," He said looking at the shirt he let out a sigh, "I'll just change here. Just, don't worry about... never mind..." He said, taking off the over shirt, his arms were exposed now. From about partway up his forearm to the sleeves of the black shirt he was wearing would be riddled with scars and circular burns. He took his black shirt off, revealing larger scars on his chest and back. As well as a tattoo of the rebel insignia from Star Wars on his left side of his chest. He was pretty strong and muscular, what you might expect from a construction worker, but still not extremely so.
He quickly put the disco shirt on, and he held his hands out to his side showing off the shirt, which showed a small amount of his tattoo, "I don't think the patch goes with it...." He said, with a smile on his face. Waiting to see what was next. He quickly grabbed something, on a nearby rack to distract the situation, hoping she wouldn't focus on his scars. It was a bright lime green tube top. He didn't even look at it and said, "You should totally try on thi-" And then he looked down and saw it, "Wow that is not a lot of shirt....."
