"Currently I've been fresh out. Kind of just been going without them, which might explain the headaches... When I was taking it, quite a bit. The pain always came back after the pills wore off. So I'd take some more,"
Layla sat down on the bed, crossing her legs and her arms above her chest. Why, this young boy's case was simple, but she let him speak. Emily was there listening, albeit paying attention in her own little way. She could relate to Matrim, as she was a drug dependent a few years ago.
"I was always getting injured at my old school, And any more fights like some of the ones I've been having and you'll probably be seeing me around more often then you'd expect. Heck, Reira there could tell you about the time I fell off of a four story roof and landed on my head... luckily she used her Qi to slow down my fall, And then.... actually that's probably where that story should end."
"Ah, you and Reira had sex. Fascinating story." Layla grinned, even through Emily broke into a rebellious blush. "My dear, you are experiencing symptoms of something called withdrawal. Your body is flushing itself out of those medications, and the cleaning process takes weeks, even years to finish. I am afraid I will not be able to give you pain medications. Your liver has probably gone through enough damage."

"Withdrawls....." He said thinking about it. It made a lot of sense, especially after 259, the root, all the alcohol, the fighting.... the sex.... he was addicted to anything that would give adrenaline or release endorphins after that. And he had gone without pain medication for awhile. And from what she said about his liver...... "So how bad would it be.... if I had been drinking a lot on top of this... how hard would it be for me to detox? How.... how long would it take?"
Matrim was worried, because he had been an addict, it was true. And part of him was considering clearing his system before he did any more damage to his life. He had done a lot, with Sara, with the drinking back at 259 carried over to now, the pain meds, all of it. "Because.... I think... I think I need help."
What am I doing? Why should I worry about this? It's just a liver. Besides, I'm sure Ceanna's healed it a few times with her Qi unintentionally when I got injured... how bad could it possibly be? ... who am I kidding... Ceanna's gone. Better safe then sorry.

"A long while, Matrim." Emily said, giving her own bit of info for Matrim. Emily was Layla's apprentice, and she knew a bit of Medicine as well. "If you've been drinking, your liver must be in a dangerous state right now. I'm surprised you haven't developed jaundice yet." Emily said, walking forward and offering Matrim the glass of water.
Emily looked at Layla, almost as if asking her for an approval of her statement. The cosplayer just smiled and gave a nod, which Emily returned and looked at Matrim. "Around half a year at least. And you will have to avoid taking antibiotics and stop drinking any sort of alcohol." The girl sighed, "Restricting, but it would be for your own good, Matrim."
Emily smiled at him reassuringly. Matrim was a strong guy, he could pull through this. Or at least, Emily hoped he would. Layla smiled at the young man and gave him a pat on the back.

"Half.... half a year?" He said, thinking about 259 a bit more. He decided to speak up about that as well, "There was this... this thing I drank. I think it had a really powerful drug in it... ever since I drank it I've been addicted to everything. And I mean everything, including fighting or physical activities of all kinds. Drugs and alcohol, everything. How am I supposed to go half a year without any of that tempting me? Is there any way, any medical way to speed the process up?"
Matrim was grasping at straws with this one, mostly because he'd have to go a really long time for this to happen. He knew one addiction would feed the other, and he would be tempted. He knew that the detox of this, and the withdrawl would do a lot of damage to him, and it'd be hard. The temptation right now that he had, it was incredibly large. He just wanted to forget detox, he wanted to forget it all, but he knew he couldn't take it. He knew he had been poisoned enough for one lifetime. He wondered what his life expectancy was right now, probably nothing over forty. And if it was, he'd be surprised.
"And I mean, how much of this six months will be spent doing the whole sweaty shaking convulsions type stuff? Cus in the movies they sorta put that all in a montage making me think it'll take all of 5 minutes of some sad grunge song to finish and I'll be clean again......"

"Half.... half a year?"
Emily nodded. "Yes, half a year."
"There was this... this thing I drank. I think it had a really powerful drug in it... ever since I drank it I've been addicted to everything. Emily thought for a while then shook her head. Layla was silent as she watched this, somewhat proud that her own student was giving her fellow students medical advice. Emily was already capable on her own, and was more ready for the professsion she wanted than she thought she was.
"And I mean, how much of this six months will be spent doing the whole sweaty shaking convulsions type stuff? Cus in the movies they sorta put that all in a montage making me think it'll take all of 5 minutes of some sad grunge song to finish and I'll be clean again......"
"Just a few weeks to a couple of months; and no, you won't have any convulsions of the sort." Emily chuckled, "Just withdrawal sympoms like hot flashes, urges to get the thing you're trying to get out of... some go as far as convulsions, but that's rare."
"For now, we suggest that you try your best. We cannot rush this process, but after it is done your body will be mostly clean."

"Right......" Matrim said, contemplating forgetting about this day. Just getting up and walking out and paying no more attention to the problem as if it never existed. He could just get up and walk away, forget the conversation, go about his life. Pretend like everything was ok until....
Until my liver quits on me.
Matrim thought about it, he hated it but he knew that for the next half a year or so he was going to have to live clean, "Alright." Was all he said at first, getting up, he had a chance to clear his head, but it still hurt. He chose to not take aspirin or anything of the sort, he would have to cold turkey every harmful addiction, everything that would tempt him, all of it. Which was a lot easier to say then actually do. He had a lot of cleaning to do at his loft, lot of bottles there. Both pill and alcohol bottles, those were the addictions he would give up. Everything else was pretty much natural.
"Is there any kinda diet... or anything else like that you recommend? Besides laying off of everything, what other steps should I take?"

"Is there any kinda diet... or anything else like that you recommend? Besides laying off of everything, what other steps should I take?" Emily nodded. The answer was simple enough for her, and being someone who intended to be a nursing major, patient management was something she was used to.
"Besides alcohol, you have to avoid eating food with too much fat and cholesterol," She said, remembering a few things that she had learned over the years of being Layla's assistant. "Drinking lots of water can help too. Tea is a diuretic, so it will help too. Once you're through, you'll not only fix your liver but you'll also clean up your blood and kidneys."
Layla nodded. "My apprentice has basically given you the gist of what you should do. If you do as she says to the letter, the cleansing process may take less than four months. That is two months lesser trouble for you."

Two less months huh.... that's a third cut off, speeds up the process quite a bit....
"I suppose it's a good thing I tend to try and eat healthy," Matrim said, "I come from a family that used to have heart problems," Matrim unzipped his jacket and lifted his shirt to expose a surgical scar over his heart, "And trust me when I say I know just how to eat extremely healthy."
I'm dangerously close to losing track of how many hearts I've had....
Matrim lowered his shirt and hopped up off the bed, "Thanks Doc," He said, "Expect to see me around. I'm sure I'll be coming to you when I have problems or I'm having temptations."
Matrim then walked over to Emily/Reira and said, "Oh, and thanks Reira! I'll see you around alright? You can help me with all of this and it'll be loads of fun!" And like that Matrim would run off. Completely delusional still over the whole Emily being Reira thing.

Emily and Layla looked over at Matrim as he revealed him having cardiovascular problems. Heart problems were common, though it surprised Emily that he had heart surgery.
She wondered what was done to his heart and considering the size of the incision scar, she hypothesized it to be a heart transplant related surgery. He probably was very lucky, transplant patients had to be very careful of having their new organ being rejected by their body.
Matrim lowered his shirt and hopped up off the bed, "Thanks Doc," He said, "Expect to see me around. I'm sure I'll be coming to you when I have problems or I'm having temptations."
"Anytime, dear." Layla said.
"Oh, and thanks Reira! I'll see you around alright? You can help me with all of this and it'll be loads of fun!"
"Uh, yeah. See you." Emily said, waving as Matrim left.
... There were a lot of things that were puzzling Emily right now. Not even mentioning anything, Emily smiled at Layla and left to go to her own classes for the day.
