Ethan saw what happened out of the corner of his eye, but it all still went pretty fast. All of a sudden, the girl who'd tried to keep him in a hold was gone, and her in place was David, who actually took the kick for her. And, with the agility of a trained fighter, had seized Ethan's leg in his arms. Ethan was ready to defend himself again from a second adversary when abruptly he was let go, David shoving his leg away lightly. Ethan recovered his balance perfectly, bouncing slightly on the balls of his feet in case a fight was coming. There was none.
David held a hand up in Ethan's face and started lecturing him. "Give it a rest. She's tired and just needs a little sleep, and i don't think this is really worth a fight. Go dunk you head in some ice or something, that temper could use it."
He said something else to the girl, but Ethan wasn't listening. He kept a straight, blank face but underneath he was seething. This idiot really did believe he'd follow Ethan around and police his actions, like he was some sort of arbiter of law and order. He looked down at Ethan like he was somehow inferior. He was definitely a hypocrite. Ethan was no moron, he knew why they went to the nearby school, what kind of people were meant to be housed and contained in there. They were parasites. Did this David actually think he was somehow a cut above the rest of them? That he wasn't scum himself? Ethan wondered just what sort of secrets he kept to himself that he otherwise wouldn't share with others...
And yet, Ethan couldn't raise a hand against him, not here at least. He could, but from measuring what had just taken place, he knew he stood no chance of success in an open engagement with him. In all honesty, Ethan had no idea how long he had trained in his own brand of fighting, only that it felt quite natural to him, so it must have been quite a while. But David, he'd like been fighting like this for longer. It showed in the way he fought. He had a certain speed and strength that Ethan couldn't match. Inevitably they would come to blows, and Ethan would likely lose. But he had no intention of being pummeled in front of this stupid girl. He was prideful in that sense.
He'd wait instead for an opportunity where he held the advantage. He had to remember it. Patience...patience...
Though he decided to hold his full anger in check, a little of it seeped through. He swatted the upheld hand out of his face and walked by David Blaze, meeting the older boy's harsh glare with a venomous one of his own. He spoke in a low tone meant only for David, though likely if that girl wanted to listen in, she could probably hear it.
"You really think you can patronize me this way repeatedly? Following me around and interfering with what I do?--I was willing to let the offense go the first time, since I figured you wouldn't be...stalking me the way you have. But now you've pushed it too far. Next time, you won't have to look to find me."
He walked past him then, and the girl as well. She was nothing to him. He would have easily beaten her down if David hadn't been there. If he was left undeterred, Ethan would walk away out of the park to somewhere else.
