Gabriel sat by content watching the others file in.Ryuu coming in shortly after he did and Gabriel showed a court nod of recognition, he owed the boy more than that but was conscious to do so. Reiria showed up soon after. She seemed to be his new favorite recently, certainly brought an edge of excitement about. She came to sit between the two of them, Ryuu and Gabriel.
"Been good ma belle, though always fun to have those little bumps along the way too." He flashed a joking grin.
Eyes turned forward to see the teacher introduce an apparent replacement who had to be supposedly teaching them now. To his surprise it was Emily in her strange nurse outfit. Gabriel grinned acknowledging it and shook his head lightly to disperse the faint grin forming.

When Doctor Clavering started her bit, he was interested in seeing everyone's reactions. She seemed to know everyone, but then he shook his head on wearing a bit of a smirk. Why wouldn't she know everyone? Everyone would have visited her office for one thing or another. Even better, the doctor had an amazing memory. She would be able to know each and every single one of them.
Then she saw him. He smiled brightly. Trizen was a true fan of Doctor Clavering, not to mention they had gotten to know each other from working with her. Understanding the human body was something Trizen was very curious about learning, not to mention he knew it would go a long way when used in other areas of social standings.
Layla was glad to see him. She smiled on saying that and told him to do his best. "I will, Doctor Clavering." He said with the same smile and was filled with optimism. Then after a while of introductions, she started the class. This was cool. He was looking forward to the first lesson... but... not by her? Then by whom?
A familiar voice was heard outside of the room. He knew who it was almost immediately. She walked into the room. Emily was here, and Trizen would certainly find cause to dig his face into his arms. He was already very red.

An interesting turn of events, if Kate had to really think on it. Someone she hadn't seen in awhile, since the one night stand they had had, sat down next to her. The rough around the edges James. He was a cutie pie. Kate's full lips twisted into a slight smirk as she looked at him, one eyebrow raised above the other.
Then someone else she hadn't seen in awhile. Her best friend, Linda. The other female expressed how she wanted to sit next to Kate, but because the class was starting soon... Linda sat behind them. Kate was a bit sad, she hadn't hung out with Linda in a long time. They had both been busy with life.
Hell, last Linda knew she was still chasing after Mathew. Who was no longer in the area, nor in the Reapers. Though Kate supposed the female knew about that by now. Linda had no idea about her and Adrian, or the issues with Damien, or the one nighter with James.
However, class was to begin... and in strolled Emily with a nurse's outfit on. Kate grinned slightly, just to see her new cheer leader all dressed up like that. It was cute, and funny. Kate approved.

Emily shrugged. Well, this was going to be a long day. Microbiology was a tedious subject to teach, especially if we're talking about clinical microbiology and Parasitology. The greatest challenge to her would be to make these students understand Clinical Microbiology without them having prior medicine-related subjects. Oh well, it's worth a try?
"Um, I'll be providing you guys with quizzes and homework, and we'll be having a bit of experimenting too." Emily said as she got her laptop up, preparing her own materials. It didn't take long before she got the slides up to work on the projector. Wasn't all that hard now, was it?
And now, begin!
"Now, the definition of Microbiology is obvious from the name itself. First, we have Micro - which means "very small"; bios, which means life, and the suffix -logy, meaning the study of. These small critters are everywhere, and trust me when I tell you that your body is full of these things. For example, Staphylococcus Epidermidis is a normal inhabitant of your skin, and it doesn't usually cause a problem until it goes past the epidermis. Now you ask, how the heck are these stuff named? I'm afraid they're not named randomly."
"Let's take Staphylococcus Epidermidis as an example. Staphylo describes the organism to be in clusters while coccus describes it's round shape. Epidermidis comes from the word epidermis - which we all know is the outer part of our skin. Another example would be Escherichia coli, or E. Coli. It was named after Theodor Escherich, who discovered it in 1885. Coli describes where it can be found - the colon. Got it? Any questions so far?"

Slowly Victor's hand gripped the edge of his desk, he began pressing down hard. The urge to slam his face into his desk and bludgeon himself into unconciousness was not completely out of his mind. He looked at the clock longingly... 5 minutes had passed since class actually started... how is that even possible!?
He stopped doodling for a moment and quickly scrawled down the notes, this stuff was easy, it just annoyed him, science was so self-explanatory unless you where trailblazing new frontiers in scientific discovery... he hated the monotony... naming things? a monotony...
Damn Tiny Bio...
he translated staphlyococcus and broke apart to its roots. he did not speak latin, at least not fluently, but he understood it very well.
he then continued to doodle...

His question answered, Ryuu watched with a look of mild interest on his face as Emily began to set up her laptop, and then class began. She then began the lecture, as slides appeared on the projector. Ryuu began to write notes down, but still paying attention at the same time, occasionally looking up at Emily and the slides, before looking back down at his paper, and writing down more notes. When Emily asked if they had any questions, Ryuu looked up at her, but had no questions to ask, as he shook his head absentmindedly while cradling the side of his face in the palm of his hand. He understood what she had said, it wasn't all that hard to understand really.
Unless you're talking about new and undiscovered workings in the field of science, that's when it gets complicated. But they weren't scientists, so it's not like they had to worry about discovering anything new, they would be learning about the parts of biology that was already discovered and defined. Although Ryuu was focusing on the lecture, a bit of his mind was distracted because he was also focusing on Emily. Although he would never say it, he had to admit, he couldn't help but think she looked kinda cute. He blushed slightly at this, but all the same, gave her a small smile.

Gabriel found it hard enough to take a teacher seriously on these subjects but the fact that Emily was teaching made it hard for him to focus. He'd seen her as an intellectual person but never under these circumstances he'd never expect to be taking notes under her direction. Though he owed her whatever respect he could give. He nodded his head retaining his alertness and pulled out a notebook to start scrawling things on. It could prove a double edged tool. With Reira at his side he would be tempted to pass notes and with Emily so wrapped up in teaching there was little focus to be distributed about.
must resist...
Gabriel scrawled on the paper the latinized terms. As he suspected, dispute there importance the Latin language we dying. So unless anyone felt the need to follow into a medical field they should go through some foreign language training.
"S'endormir ? Soigner un jeu ?" Gabriel wrote quickly on the paper shifting it to Reira without averting his gaze.

…and on the class went. To her liking, Emily had prepared a laptop and was showing them various slides that went along with her lecture. This was good! Now that Reira had something to focus on, the slides in particular, she found it a lot easier to pay attention. Course that same annoying song was still background noise in her head, lovely. In a fluent motion, Reira had taken out her notebook and began jotting down some messy notes. She was in a messy mood today.
This is nomenclature right…no wait that’s Chemistry! Umm…yeah…naming things…right, I got this!
No she didn’t, she was losing focus again. It was just so easy. Reira perfectly understood how the tiny organisms were named. She probably couldn’t tell you the scientific name of a tick, but she could say that that one part was Latin and the other contained the genus…and um, other things. Making small swirlies on her paper with her pen, Reira stopped suddenly when she saw Gabriel slide a note to her. With a hidden grin, Reira carefully opened the note, so that no one would see her do so.
She smiled at the message and quickly wrote one back. Stealthily, she passed it over to Gabriel, making sure neither Layla, or Emily saw. When Gabriel would open the note, he’d read…
‘M'amuser, Gabriel.’

Oh dear god she should have never taken this class. Never, never, never. The female looked over her shoulder at Linda for a moment, then turned her gaze to James before darting back to Emily who was teaching this little class of theirs. Science and all things related weren't a strong point for poor Kate.
The blonde wasn't going to do well in this class in the least bit. She took notes as Emily spoke, her pen jotting down everything she would need to know. The different names or the same damn things, breaking it all down in latin. UGH. Latin. If she wanted to speak it she would take a class on it.
Micro means very small. Bio means life. Yadda yadda yadda. Emily asked if there were any questions and Kate held back. She had been about to ask "How do we transfer out of this class?" It was a good question. And one she'd have to take to the office of the school later. Instead she just shook her head and smiled weakly. This was going to be horrid.

OoC: OMG, sorry if perchance I've gotten little mental power to continue this class. Considering all that has happened on the past few weeks - anyone inside the class may still participate, and anyone who pleases to join can join in. I'll make this class quicker than it's supposed to be, since I've delayed it for a bit too long. Those whom have been waiting will be given EXP accordingly. Layla wasn't amused. "My, my~" the woman started, making her way from the back of the room to the front. Emily had made a rather obvious mistake - which was not surprising, since she was just new to teaching. But it was a lesson she had to learn if she was to be a nurse as she had planned to become. Nurses were not only Doctor's assistants, but health educators in their own little way. "You should ask questions, my dear student.""Q-Questions?" Emily said, slightly nervous. Aye, Layla did catch one mistake. Oh god, her marks weren't going to be any good after this, weren't they? She remained quiet as the real teacher stood up front and fiddled with Emily's laptop, basically showing a picture of two bacteria: This and this. Layla pointed to Victor and smiled, "You, could you tell me which of these is the famed Staphylococcus Aureus?"She then pointed to Ryuu, "Mister Yamapi, give me all and any information you know about Staphylococcus aureus."Then to Gabriel. "How about Staphylococcus Epidermidis, Mister Seran?"She then chuckled and looked at Kate, who was looking quite bored - quite obviously. Layla feigned a huge grin at this, as she refused to have people believe Biology was boring. In fact, it was the most fascinating science in her most honest opinion. "And Miss McHallin, please give me any and all information you understood about Staphylococcus Epidermidis. If none of you can answer these questions, there are laptops under your desk. Use our school's wifi connection and research for your answer. I'm giving you all 5 minutes. The first to answer correctly gets a special prize!"You'd think hearts would come out of her head right now. It was obvious that this woman loved to teach. Emily just sighed and looked through her notes. For one, one could understand why she was slightly nervous. It only meant Layla wasn't going to stop at anything until Emily gets used to this. And as for Reira, "And for the girl with the same name as I am, considering that we have a microscope in hand - which we all know that is required for looking at such small, cute creatures; do you honestly think we can see them though just a microscope?"Because in truth, mircoscopes are quite useless in itself. Lets see how these students fare in this question and answer portion of our beloved teaching contest.

Ryuu lifted his head up from taking notes as he saw Dr. Clavering make her way from the back of the room to the front, telling Emily she should ask the students questions, Ryuu could hear how nervous Emily was from the tone of her voice, this wasn't helping her very much, was it? He watched as Dr. Clavering stood up front and begin to play around with Emily's laptop, as two pictures of bacteria appeared on the screen. "...Staphylococcus Aureus. Its name literally means the "golden cluster seed," and is the most common cause of staph infections. It is a facultatively anaerobic, Gram-positive coccus, is usually found in grape-like clusters and has large, round, golden-yellow colonies. The golden appearance is the etymological root of the bacteria's name, since aureus means "golden" in Latin. It is frequently part of the skin flora found in the nose and on skin. It is still one of the four most common causes of nosocomial infections, often causing post surgical wound infections."
That was all Ryuu remembered, before having to resort to using the laptop that Dr. Clavering mentioned, and turning it on, he then logged onto the Internet, and began to research a bit on it, before continuing to answer the question. "It can cause a range of illnesses from minor skin infections, such as pimples, impetigo, boils, cellulitis folliculitis, furuncles, carbuncles, scalded skin syndrome and abscesses, to life-threatening diseases such as pneumonia, meningitis, osteomyelitis, endocarditis, Toxic shock syndrome, and septicemia. Its incidence is from skin, soft tissue, respiratory, bone, joint, endovascular to wound infections. It was discovered in Aberdeen, Scotland in 1880 by the surgeon Sir Alexander Ogston in pus from surgical abscesses."

Ophelia’s eyes were focused elsewhere—she was staring down at her fingernails, listening quietly to the teacher rambling on about this and that, microbes and whatnot. Really, it was fascinating. She could picture them in her mind’s eye, moving, multiplying, destroying…it was really interesting. Visually, however, nothing was really astounding, so she focused on her cuticles. Ophelia gently stroked the sensitive skin on her finger, tracing over her knuckle and finally reaching the wrist. In some way, her hand reminded her of an animal’s face—most commonly a lizard. She was very fond of lizards and snakes; their texture fascinated her. Their scales reminded her of delicate, bright feathers, and each reminded her of some sort of layered cloud, or even on occasion a decorative dessert. She smiled with a delicate brightness, petting her hand as though it were a separate entity, regarding it as a gentle animal. She listened and a question that piqued her interest made its way melodically through her ears. She perked up and glanced away from her fingers for a few moments to reply.
”Hmm…well, that’s the most common form of Staph, isn’t it? It sort of targets people with lower immune systems…especially in hospitals…you know, the crazy strains you get from the .01 percent of germs they couldn’t kill with disinfectant...it usually lingers on plastic that isn’t properly cleaned…well, lots of things are on dirty objects that you shouldn’t put into people…but…yes. You put that into your body and you can get quite the infection, I think.” she finally paused when she felt she’d expressed herself completely. Of course, it wasn’t as articulate as the source she’d found it on, but it certainly got the point across, even if the question wasn’t asked directly. It was her first time speaking, even on her first day of class…how’s that for an impression?

Victor saw the finger be pointed in his direction as the question answer bit of class came up... so exciting. Victor's chest heaved as he let out a heavy sigh, admittedly he had no idea which was which and so to his laptop he went. as the little machine began to hum and boot up victor decided to make himself a little more well known, "My name is Victor D'armond by the way ma'am" he said with a little charming smile, nothing special, just so that she may call him by his name next time instead of just a pointed finger. he then nodded to her and went to work at his little computer.
Victor laced his fingers facing away from him and cracked his knuckles with a little jerk of his hands. He smiled as his fingers traced across the keyboard and he signed into the school's account. he figured the easiest way was to find either one of those pictures on the web, preferably if he could find the exact same one she used. soon he had google images up and running and with it he simply typed in 'Stephylococcus aureus' and looked at the first image that came up, to his expectation it was the exact same image that the delightful teacher/doctor ms. clavering had used for the first slide. Victor's hand raised, slow but certainly to it's height in the air. "I believe the first slide, the one on the left is stephylococcus aureus" he said, his rich voice enveloping the word and giving a certain texture to the latin he had just spoken.

Hiyami tripped into the room. Literally. She'd been opening the door to enter, but her foot had gotten caught on the bottom left corner of it. The result? She found herself sailing forward to land - splat! - on the floor. She made a shape that wasn't too different from that of a pancake when it was accidentally flipped - out of the pan, anyways. Her shirt - an overly large T-shirt, rode up just the slightest bit with the fall, but not so that it was noticeable. Just the typical "OMG, FALLING!" movement that accompanied the thud that it usually ended with.
"Owwww." she almost whined out the word, before quickly getting back to her feet. In her hastiness, she managed to knee her shirt. And rip it. Hiyami swore. Mentally, anyways. She wouldn't do that kind of thing aloud. Well, usually not if there were authority figures around, anyways.
Leaving her bag where she'd dropped it, she attempted to fix her shirt. A difficult task, seeing as it had ripped horizontally - enough to show her stomach, navel and all.
"I'm sorry I'm late!" she said, almost distractedly as she attempted to fix her shirt. It was to no avail. Still, she kept fidgeting with it, trying to think of something that would keep it from revealing her stomach.
"What did I miss?" she asked. Then, she realized that she'd interrupted what seemed to be something of a flurry of educational fun. She ducked her head, before realizing that her long hair was still untied - which was always bad for any kind of science room. She surrendered to her shirt - it was a lost cause - to take the hair tie around her wrist and neatly tied her hair up.
"Um, yeah. Sorry...?" she really didn't know what to say. As it was, she was already flustered and blushing rather violently. She edged closer to her bag and picked it up, just holding it in front of her. there was no point in slinging it over her back again - at least, not unless the teacher threw her out.
Oh, no... I hope she doesn't... she thought, biting her lower lip nervously.
She was very nervous and, at the moment, very self-conscious. It would fade once she got situated, but she wasn't so self-absorbed that she didn't notice that it was a student up front, and not a teacher.
All the same, she simply kept quiet, her eyes wide, as she waited for her punishment. At the thought of punishment, she winced. She was supposed to ask. She really was supposed to ask - she'd been trained to ask over a period of time by the sadistic bastards that had owned her - but she couldn't get the words out.
She closed her eyes for a brief second, trying to sort her thoughts, before opening them again.
Hiyami was no longer a slave. She didn't have to ask. She wouldn't get in trouble... Right? Suddenly, her nervousness doubled and redoubled. Should she ask? But... she really didn't want to. No! she told herself violently. No! You don't have to, and you probably won't get one. The others who were late in other classes didn't get punishments. Why would you?
Hiyami calmed - but only slightly. Her eyes darted back and forth - from the woman who looked... very odd... to the girl in the front of the classroom, and then to the students before going back to the woman who was dressed so nicely. Then to the nurse. And then the students. And so on.

"See, my student? That is participation.""...""So my dear Emily, what does anaerobic mean?" Emily blinked, which was duly noted because Layla knew Emily had that habit of blinking when she was either puzzled or confused. "Um," She began, "It can survive with or without the presence of oxygen...?""Bin-go~" Layla said, looking back to the class. "Also, my dear students is why hospitals are kept clean at every nook and cranny. Bacterial infections are easy to prevent with proper handwashing, but since Staphylococcus is part of your normal external flora, you cannot get rid of it all by just that. Your best bet is to keep your immune system up and going!" ”Hmm…well, that’s the most common form of Staph, isn’t it? It sort of targets people with lower immune systems…especially in hospitals…you know, the crazy strains you get from the .01 percent of germs they couldn’t kill with disinfectant...it usually lingers on plastic that isn’t properly cleaned…well, lots of things are on dirty objects that you shouldn’t put into people…but…yes. You put that into your body and you can get quite the infection, I think.” "Yes, and also there are strains of which are resistant to antibiotics. Things is, some viruses and bacteria nowadays have grown resistant of our old antibiotics. Primarily because of their exposure, and they have mutated to adapt and ensure survival. This is why we ask those who take antibiotics of any sort to follow the prescription to the letter." Emily blurted this out. Well, as of now, she was being more of a student than a teacher - but that was normal, as she was nervous. "Good, good!" Layla said, a wide grin on her face as Shinichi began to dance at where it sat in glee. "Now, with all that said, can you point out to me where Staphylococcus aureus is among the two images projected here?" She said, pointing to Victor. "My name is Victor D'armond by the way ma'am" "Very well, Victor. Go on.""I believe the first slide, the one on the left is staphylococcus aureus"Well, as soon as Layla nodded a student came into class apologizing. Layla looked at her up and down and smiled. "So, Teacher Emily." She said, turning towards the student nurse. "What do you suppose we should do with our late student?"Emily blinked. "Um, let her sit down?"Layla chuckled and shook her head. Nope. That wouldn't be a consideration. This was the corporal punishment system. "I believe that would be wrong, at least in our system of education here in Public High School #42." Layla would turn to the new girl and smile. "Your name please? You may go to any table you please, but you may not take a seat for the rest of the class." Oh dear. "Now, everyone - for our first activity we will be doing some gram staining. Under your desks are all you need, including the inoculation loops and a vial full of agar and Staphylococcus Aureus. Following the instructions in the handouts my dear Emily will give you, please place this specimen onto the slides, stain them as instructed and view them under a microscope. Emily and I will look at and keep track of your progress. If you have any questions, please ask!"Emily nodded and took the prepared handouts and gave one for each student. "Tell me and Doctor Clavering when you guys are ready, as we will discuss about the activity we just did and the implications of the colors that come out of a gram staining."
